I agree with your opinion- Pune city is too busy to go around for tourists. Full of two wheeler traffic and honking, noisy narrow roads. Going out of city places would be better experience. Pune is controlled by City corporation. People are elected into this corporation are dis-honest and full of corruption. They take bribe money and allow illegal constructions, often taking away space of the road. As a result lots of apartment buildings and no space left for roads!! Please use Metro in Pune. It is very convenient. BTW, 20 years back, Pune was a pensioners paradise. With the IT and other manufacturing industries coming up, the population has grown exponentially. The city and people are still very hospitable. You should never negotiate with an auto (tuktuk) fellow. Either ask to go by meter and book an OLA/Uber. You can book tuktuk also on OLA/Uber. You should have been to some local art/culture program. That would be a different experience. BTW, you visited Pune during Ganesh festival. During this lots of people from all over Maharashtra visit Pune to see the Ganesh decorations. Please expect 10x surge in traffic during this 10 day period.

In general, make doubly sure that the destination and amount are understood clearly. You may also demand that they charge based on the meter. Be firm and tell them upfront in simple language that you won't pay more. The list of dos and don'ts can be long. But I am sure you can learn this quickly and be safe!!

Hello Charlotte. I am a Puneite and am ashamed at your experience. Yes, the Tuk Tuk (Auto) drivers can be notorious and sometimes even we as residents are forced to get into an argument with them, but luckily not everyone is like that. I will strongly recommend either getting in touch with a reliable local who can guide you around or opting for Ola/Rapido/Uber rather than hiring the autos directly. Hoping that you and your partner will continue to have a memorable experience here. Have a great day ahead.

The driver agreed for 150/- (Which driver only demanded and we did not negotiate) and when we reached they demanded 250/- and on giving 150/- he started shouting in the society(I got embarrassed as my family was with me). It's unfortunate experience with the tuk-tuk. As a native of Pune, I can assure you that the city is generally safe.
Despite this, Pune's residents are generally supportive and willing to assist in such situations.
Additionally, apps like Uber and Ola are available in most Indian cities, and I encourage using them for safer travel.
Local delicacies like Puran Poli, Misal Pav, and Bhakri are worth trying. You’ll also find high-end restaurants and street food, catering to different palates.
    Well-Connected to Major Tourist Destinations
Pune is conveniently located close to popular tourist spots like Mumbai, Goa, and Aurangabad (home to Ajanta and Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site). This makes it an excellent starting point for exploring other regions of India.
    Shopping and Markets
Pune has various shopping options, from modern malls to traditional bazaars. Areas like Laxmi Road and Tulsi Baug are famous for traditional handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs.
Pune offers a harmonious mix of tradition and modernity, making it a pleasant and enriching experience for international travelers.
