2 biggest factors in a nymph dropping to the bottom is water flow and how aerated the water is along with drag of the tippet or flyline! something is fairnes that will change every few meters along a river, and will be different from one bank to another also taking into consideration large boulders. Therefore you would practically have to change you weight every time you move position on the water. IMO its over complicating fishing to sell more variants of flies by weight! personally i have the same flies from size 10 to 18 with tungsten beads, I often fish perhaps half a kilometre of water and will catch anywhere between 70 and 120 fish over a 5 to 6 hours. I have 8 patterns I go to on a regular basis through out the season, yet carry over 1000 flies in 2 box's I could happily take 1 box of flies and be covers for the season. Flies catch more fishermen than fish and IMO there is no need at all for overcomplicating weight! yearly season size 10's or 12's with 3 to 4mm bead then down to 14, 16's mid season and low water down to 16's, 18's smaller beads in ratio to hook size. been doing the same thing this 40 years, I was czech nymphing/Euro nymphing before I even knew it was a style of fishing and read it in a book thinking feck me I've been fishing like that for years! but i never used and indicator. never needed to! apart from which its too much like bait fishing may as well stick a float on your line! anyway the New Zealand style of klink and dink is my preferred method.

Thanks man! I did finally get out today for the first time this year. Managed a few hours out and thought I was getting skunked until I connected with a big brown at the end of the day. It bested my previous best on that stream by over 2". It was about 21" Amazing how things can turn around in a moment lol

One of my favourite ways to catch a fish with a jig is when I cast it out on the way down paying attention to what the line is doing and if a fish got it on the way down

great video! why not just use a drop shot rig and you can always get the exact bottom feel for any fly combo, depth, current etc?
Drop shot rigs can be great! Especially if you don't want to lose a fly on the bottom.
Hey Bryan great video.I have heard great things about the DB Ideal nymph rods.I think you were using a Sage esn hd.How do the esn and DB compare?Hope you will be doing reviews in future videos.
I only have the 6wt which has a specific purpose for me. But I will certainly be exploring the line of Diamondback Rods! They should be comparable to the ESN but at a much better price point!

I really only sell nymphs and those nymphs are universal for pretty much most waters.
When you mention “The AuSable”… Are you referencing the AuSable River (that runs through AuSable Forks, Wilmington, Jay, and Lake Placid NY?
