Hey! I batted 1000! The first Czech Rod I built was a crappy blank because I WANTED a two piece 10ft (Which I would still prefer over a 4 piece). Fishing public waters I caught 13 citation trout and around 500 others that year. Yes it was HEAVY!!! Soooooo I built 4 piece matt finish Czech blanks. I made a 10ft 3inch and an 11ft that the tips are interchangeable. Single foot guides to save weight and YES, I placed stripping guides in easy reach. I tie my own flies and wanted to make my own rods for the system we've fished here in the Appalachians for generations. Now it's called Czech Nymphing. We always just called it FISHING. An old Indian said a man should make his OWN arrows.
Thanks Pierre. Great reviews and excellent advice at the end on what to look out for in a euro nymphing rod. The only rod I have of those you reviewed is the Echo Shadow II (3wt with the competition kit). It balances really well but the balancing weights do add to the overall weight of the rod and you do feel it a bit after a full day of fishing. The fighting butt with the kit is nice to have. Very capable rod, handles most yellows on the Vaal River well.
Hi Pierre Thanks for an amazing video I am currently using a 10’ stealth infinity 6 # ,predominately for Vaal yellows. What are your comments on that. I have the same in a 3 weight for drys for trout I love the beautiful soft presentations
Really good vid, thanks. Love the Moonshine. I would add the Orvis Clearwater 10ft 2 weight.. I cant fault this rod for French leader nymphing. Dont know why Orvis have released a Helios blackout euronymph rod at £1000. I dont feel I need super distance and accuracy for Euronymphing. If you look at Orvis I would strongly recommend the Clearwater for this kind of fishing. Good price excellent performance.
Hey Pierre, yeah commented before about the vision nymphmaniac, still my favourite probably cause I use it all the time tried, the new sage esn couldn’t warrant cost, it’s a phenomenal rod. But yeah I could have three lengths in my quiver of nm’s so it got handed back to its owner before my credit card got abused :) As a side note vision launched an 11ft 2wt nymph maniac , same spec as a 11-3. So fighting but and down locking :)
Probably the ESN, but remember that you don't want the fastest rod in the world for Euro Nymphing. It needs to load with minimal fly line (if any). What you want is medium fast action but a good recovery rate.
Share your sentiments with the ESN. Amazing rods, even the gen 1. But they are dated. Have 10’ 3wt gen 1 for the Vaal, I put an additional stripper guide on the butt section and it’s a different rod. Do wish they had a small fighting butt. Have an ESN 10’6” 3wt blank on its way and going to built up to comp specs. The vision 11’ 2wt is another loverly rod. Able to cast a single 2.5mm nymph into wind. Really amazing rod.

I actually have the ESN 3106-4 HD. The thing is the handle is not tapered like any other rod you're seeing in this video. I like it but I am about to go spend even bigger money on a different brand and because I'll be visiting the factory I'll get to pick and chose exactly how the guides will be placed, how the handle will be tapered and since these guys are even rolling and baking the blanks themselves I can probably pick the blank I want from the stack. I'll be able to chose the reel seat technology, fighting butt option and all. Back to the ESN, I actually have my own way of holding & pinching the line, the "good news" is that an additional guide or thinner tapering on the handle can be done on a rod. Unfortunately, it would likely void the warranty. What I find interesting is that so many competitors are using rods from Europe, Vision would be one of the brands but I have yet to see side by side reviews with the ESN/Orvis/Redignton?T&T with let's say a JMC or Hanak rod.
Any euro nymphing rod that you would recommend for migratory browns and rainbows from the Great lakes? Weight and length? 2 ft steelheads put up a good fight. Also what brand for under $500
Moonshine Epiphany or Vesper EN, Redington Strike is good value, I'd probably go for Hardy Aydon 4wt10' if I had the choice but that's because it's such a great dry fly rod too.
We are doing our best to get more G Loomis sticks in for review! It’s an expensive venture as you can imagine getting all these rods and other gear in. Soon to come though! Stay tuned.
I use the nymphomaniac 10ft 4# for all my fishing in the Scandinavian mountains for trout, grayling and charr. It works equally well for euro nymphing, dry fly and small streamers. You can see it in action here th-cam.com/video/1OesBCAUmbA/w-d-xo.html (alongside a rod from Maxia), but bare in mind that i stripped the handle and build a new one with a down locking seat and a fighting butt. Another example can be seen here th-cam.com/video/yFkxYxgC42E/w-d-xo.html showing the kind of streamers I fish it with.
I have the moonshine epiphany 10 ft 4 2 wt like it a lot I had a sage esn a couple yeas ago I just couldn't justify having that expensive of a rod because it didn't get nearly enough love. It was definitely amazing however. I'm gonna have to put a better reel on the moonshine but I have to work it into the budget . I will likely get a ross animas for it or maybe a lamson black out. I'm not sure yet time will tell. its fishable I just need a little more weight and a larger arbor .
I must be honest and say that you shouldn't overthink or overspend on a reel for euro nymphing. If you have extra cash to burn, that's all cool, but it doesn't really make the biggest difference. Spend the extra cash in fly tying material or fuel for fishing trips

Pierre your reviews are a 10 on a 10 scale!! I subscribed and will always thumbs up you!! because all your videos are worth the view....

Great video!! I have a Contact II on the way
Good choice! Let us know how it goes

I can imagine the Clearwater is a good rod, backed by good warranty as well.
Thank you I a currently in the market, I appreciate the overview, very thorough.
Glad it was helpful!
What size mirage reel is that? Have you tried the orvis pro trout lines? I am leaning towards that blackout but dang it’s pricey. Nice video.

I'll see if I can get my hands on a 11ft 2wt, thanks for letting me know!
Well done Pierre. In your opinion which one has the stiffest tip and fast action?

@ This is a great question. I don't think the nymphing rods from Europe get enough attention (where I'm from at least).
Nymphomaniac.. the Spanish team loves them

Man, I was really hoping that you’d cover the G. Loom is IMX Pro E. There seems to be little coverage on that rod.

i own T&T contact II 10' 2wt and contact 1 10' 3wt ...both ate excellent.....would love to try the vision nymphomaniac 11 ft 2 wt that is under 3oz!!!
What weight rod would you recommend for vaal smallmouth yellows?
Have you guys had a chance to try the new shadow x from Echo? I'm considering an upgrade to my shadow 2.
We'll try to get one in 👍
Ive owned 3 of these but the best for me is the nymph maniac
Awesome to hear.

You use nymphomaniac…..😳? Ok, that is something.😁
@@mikkoeisto4823 Not sure what you mean?
@@creativeflyfishing998 The rod is called Nymphmaniac, nymphOmaniac is something totally different..
@@mikkoeisto4823 fair enough, can't even blame autocorrect on this one 😂
So for price would you take the vision back the contact?
Sorry not sure what you mean?
