Wow! what a great explanation. Totally different from anything else I've seen or heard. The overpowering the final cast is exactly what I do and I end up driving the rod tip down. Really helpful. Thank you Mr Leadon.
@@jonathanstahnke5375 I used to say the backcast was like stabbing the sky and the forward cast was throwing potatoes off a spoon. I like push, pull better.
Love AIB Fishing club. Fished there back in 94' with Rupert L. My casting was sub-par and had trouble casting with and against the wind. Only caught two fish that day but had a wonderful experience. I had Rupert take my rod and show me how to cast with the wind. I have video of him casting over 100ft of line including some backing!! It's awesome to watch. He was the best! Funny, Shawn looks just like his dad back in 1994. Thanks Brian and Shawn.
Fly fishing here in Texas means dealing with the wind. I think he hits the nail on the head. Early on, I tried to power my way through casting. I have since learned to let the rod and line do the work. One of my tricks is to shorten the casting stroke by placing my index finger on top of the grip. This forces me to shorten it up. Great presentation!
Wish I had seen this lesson years ago. I've been bad casting for 30 years and wondering why the cast collapses after nice false casts. Stop the rod tip at eye level. Then let it drift back just a little after the back stop.
Maybe it’s me 🤔 Looks like he is stopping, but he is moving his dominant hand slightly back olmos simultaneously with the stop, like a move we might use if we want to create a mend Interesting, thank you for the time and sharing!!
The most concise demonstration I have ever seen! Excellence in motion!
Thanks for watching and stay tuned.....much more to come with Shawn.
yeah, definitely
Just by watching Shawn cast, put a big smile on my face.
Ballet!

Excellent!
He certainly is! Thanks for being here.
Thank you. I was fishing in Otago, New Zealand a month ago and gave up because of the wind. Will definitely go out in the wind now to get this right.
Thanks for watching. We have a few others in this series on dealing with the wind as well.
Thanks Shawn and Brian for sharing! Really helpful :)
Thanks so much for watching!
You’re all bundled up! Are you cold? I thought the Bahamas were in the tropics! It’s 70° in Michigan today.
It was a cold trip by Bahamas standards…..yes.
I fished with Shawn about 20 years ago. A cold front went through. He had on a down jacket and a ski cap. Funniest thing. @@Madriveroutfitters
Can you do a video on Stripping Baskets and the various options?
Please send Brian an email with your request and he’ll get right back to you. Thanks!
Love this explanation.

It would had been nicer for more tips but grateful never the less, that guy seems very knowledgeable.
Stay tuned! Quite a few episodes coming with Shawn. This was just a warmup.

3:04 When the line energy bumps the rod. He could have sent that to the moon if he wanted.
He’s an amazing caster and instructor! He can also find bonefish as well as anyone alive!
Gotta remember that eye level finish for next time I’m in Honduras!
Thanks for watching.
Nice.

Key position and power stop position, straight rod path = tight loops. So simple but allot of people struggle with that one.

0:25 i've always wondered what Brian without a hat looked like

You ever noticed how they make these videos when there’s no wind. Make this video with a 20 mph head wind in the surf
Plenty of casting videos on this channel in the wind....so no, sorry, we didn't notice.
That "swooshing sound" is Nike patent infringement, so watch out everybody! /s
Good point. Better casting and less legal issues to boot!
Also Watch how steady the rest of his body is. I have a lot to learn
He's a master!
I'll bet you get to deduct that Andros trip on your taxes. That is just not fair. :-)
