I think Cold Steel should do a knife for Navy personnel, perhaps even with a marlinspike for undoing knots on watercraft. Call it the "Sea Man". When you are finished going through American Lawmen, you could get some Sea Men in hand.

As the years go by I find I can get by with smaller blades on a daily basis. Now I run a dragonfly 2 in zdp. But I have quite a few choices should the day possibly require a bigger or stronger blade. But from my SAKs to my benchmades to my Kershaws to my spydercos I still run the df2 more than anything... 2nd place is my bugout.
Small, thin, lightweight, and sharp as hell is where it's at for edc... for me personally of course. My twin brother would HATE the df2 and probably break it in less than a day. To each their own.

I like the action on the AD10 more, but the Lawman carries better. The type of jeans I usually wear have quite deep coin pockets. And the knife fits almost 90% in the coin pocket, so i don't worry about it shredding my pants and can pinch the bit sticking out to retrieve it. I really like the Lawman. However I recently purchased my first Civivi (the Praxis), which made me realise that a thin blade stock and thin edge is something I really like. For some reason it is just so much easier to touch up. They should have stuck to a high hollow grind on the Recon, Lawman end AD10. I wonder why they changed it.

Love the Lawman - it ticks all the boxes. I agree that it remains an excellent starter knife esp. for someone looking for a working knife. However, like you I think many collectors/users have moved past it. I think value for money is slipping. This is not surprising. There has been more progress in knife design and manufacturing in the past 5 years than the proceeding 20 years. Better steels, better quality, more variety, etc. Look at the quality of today's budget knives compared to 10 years ago. Love the vid!!!

I think anyone who joins the knife enthusiast/collector world and then sticks around for an extended period of time eventually moves towards practicality and performance. I personally started by seeking out very tactical, hard use, preferably blacked out knives that would be my go to if I found myself stranded in the Amazon or deep behind enemy lines, both of which were 100% dad day dream hypothetical situations. Now I’d be lying if I said I didn’t still enjoy pulling out my Benchmade 810 contego, cold steel recon 1, hogue ex-01 and just thinking man the adventures these could take me on. The reality though is that these days I much more enjoy carrying a knife that disappears in the pocket and is dressed in appealing comfortable materials paired with a finely ground, thin behind the edge, stainless supersteel blade.
On a side note though, the vast majority of my fixed blade knives are still very hard use and semi tactical because you never know what a camping trip with the family holds in store for you or more so what the yard work will throw at you on a Saturday afternoon lol.

The Smoko designs knife is an interesting one, the blade and springs are made in Thiers, the handles in Australia and the screws in Taiwan. Closest you can get to a production Australian knife. Next closest would be a Svord Peasant, which is in New Zealand but that's close enough.

And not only is the blade stock a lot thicker than the new one, each one of the slabs of g10 for the handle is also a lot thicker than the new one. The old one is several millimeters thicker than what I received. Still seems like a fine knife that is in no way that absolute tank that my original one is.

AD-10 is waaay more smooth and is an actual guillotine. I like coated blades but for some reason Cold Steel has always coated the lock bar and blade tang which makes them less than they could be uncoated. I have a Recon1 that tools years of actually carrying it everyday to polish the blade tang/ lockbar interfaces.

Great video, nicely done! You do a beautiful job editing, and I love how you include your dog and cat family. 👍
I bought my first Cold Steel knife in 1987 back when they didn’t even have pocket clips and opened with nail nicks, and they’ve always been a great value. My only beef with them are two things: the pocket clips are way too stiff and short, and they are what tear up your pocket if the scale is G10, not necessarily the rough G10. And the satin clips are nicely finished, but the black ones are still coated with that cheap black paint that immediately starts to scrape off. I wish they would Cerakote or DLC the black clips. Still, they are all good solid knives. My original 5” tanto Gunsite folder in lowly AUS-8 was one of the sharpest knives out of the box I’ve ever seen.

Fiddling my hollow ground black AL….looking at my olive drab AL with the flat grind (which accompanied me on my PCT Thru Hike-actually had some grit getting in between the stop-pin mechanism preventing it to lock properly).
Really like both models…but prefer the bigger blades of my Recon 1’s , hollow and flat alike, spear and clip point, all XHP, btw.
Never thought they are too big.
I do like my AD10, clip removed to make most of the great ergonomics of the handle (I carry it in a dedicated sheath-with that thick handle it really is a belt knife, not a pocket knife) but it really bothers me that the finger choil is sooo badly executed!
I did put the file to it but it still pisses me off!
However…it feels good in the hand now!
The Recon is the most versatile though, especially since I created a “forward finger choil” into the G10!
    Works great 👍🏼

I have one in XHP and love it. The hollow grind gives you great geometry for a very sharp edge. My only complaint is the blade to scale ratio for me it would perfect if it was a 1/4" longer. I like the boxy styling as it drops in a 5th pocket for me and I can carry a Recon1 for a little more blade length

Picked up one from Aussie knives about a month ago to see what all the hype was about. After some tweaking of the pivot, the blade wasn’t always snapping fully closed and almost had a pocket catastrophe 😳, and a serious resetting of the pocket clip, it seems to be a reasonably good do most things knife.
Does it cut like my PM3, no, but it does just want to get cutty and grubby with no easy damage or remorse.
I’m definitely thinking of dropping down to a 17 degree edge for even more slicey goodness.

If you still have the FDE Lawman, maybe try to do a scale swap? Unless they are all beaten up now.

I'd be happy to take the Lawman you can't stand to look at. I'm nearly certain we live in the same state (you know border closures)

Honestly, I don't like this knife and I have no interest in buying one. However, I do love your reviews and watched the whole thing.
If I had to rank the products you have rated over the years it would be:
    1 - Your cat
2 - Living in the outskirts of Australia
    3 - Your sharpening system
    4 - The Atom
So if you see an American driving a Ute around with a cat in the front seat and a really sharp knife in his pocket, you only have yourself to blame!

Original OKC RAT. Best $30 knife I've found. Break it, loose it, who cares, it was $30.
Maybe a Mora, if I wanted a fixed blade.
No need to spend big money on a good blade. I own Spyderco and Benchmade stuff, too, but I carry the RAT.

And then they made it $150. Are the American Lawman, Code 4, and Recon 1 worth it at all now with the big price increases?

These are now about AUD$280, which is upsetting. Are there alternatives?

I like whole lot of stuff more. Buy in a shtf, when it comes to folders, I may reach for this over premium newer blades. I love the lock back vs a flipper in that it wont accidentally open on you while you are asleep. I like the robust coldsteel and triad lock. I love the g 10 (may take sandpaper and soften it) because if a kangaroo or koala attacks you , it's less likely to slip out of your hands than a slyzz bowie or crk. This is and will always be a champ. Great video and beautiful cat. Style =no, fidget factor=hell no. But it wins in that it Is minimalistic and functional. Great video. You been through alot of law men lol???

The Deka from Hogue is also a great knife except the belly of the blade is skinnier but 20v steel is good.

    I wouldn't buy a non xhp lawman.
Also I did that to a zt edge a long time ago. Was hilarious. I would suggest hand sharpening a convex edge on that one you have, might help improve it. But only slightly? Or goto someone local and get a regrind on it.
