Honestly, it’s not a great board. That’s not to say I regret making it. I have a ton of fun on boards that other people would write off. The problem with this thing is that it’s too thin to paddle as fast as I’d like, and it needs more rocker. Both problems that would be solved using a regular blank, which is what I’ll end up doing next time a shape a step up / gun!

Good question. When you originally route, the boxes fit very snuggly, so you don’t have to worry about the angle. Both futures and FCS boxes get installed straight (90 degrees). I only set the angle when I’m doing repairs and the box has room to move inside the cavity when the filler is hardening. Hope that makes sense.

Is there a reason you use a hand saw? And say not a jigsaw?

I have a jigsaw and used it once- I got really uneven cuts on the rail (you can see I have the same issue with the pull saw as well 🤣) the reason being- the surface of the surfboard deck is convex, so your jigsaw isn’t sitting on a flat surface, so it cuts an angle.

All smart, but foam should be glued with Gorilla type glue maybe (polyurethane glue) not sure. I would use Great Stuff spray foam (which is PU) as the glue, but I'm sure you know about that for filling holes in the blank.

I did not know about great stuff, thanks Carlos! Good idea on the poly glue as well.

@@Rogue_wave the shit is insanely sticky though, so you might want to wear disposable gloves. Best wishes in shaping and glassing, etc.

What do you use the styrene monomer for? Is that to thin the gloss coat?

Yep exactly. It helps the resin "flow" nicely, and lay very flat.
