Great video. Question: is there a reason you did the glass coat first on the deck rather than the bottom? It’s the reverse order than the host coat. Wondering if there’s an advantage to that.

as i didnt glass for more than 25 years, it was great to hear this special glassingsound again :-D THANKS! i dont know if the top coats and resins are not that "unhealthy" today, but we had to use gloves ANYTIME, cause the chemicals went thru our skin into the body somehow.. btw: we put the grafic layers directly under the first layer of glass. is there a special reason for not doing this? (back in the days we only had clarkfoarm)
so glad the video was able to get to you! you're definitely right about wearing gloves during the hot coat. I'm usually pretty careful about safety but that bad habit somehow formed anyway. The only reason I did the graphics above the first layer of glass was just to buy myself some more time to adjust the graphics before the resin went off.
Logo lams on clears usually go under the first layer of cloth in a production setting. Pull out your cloth for the board like normal, cut your excess and when youre ready to laminate roll your cloth back to where you want your lams, drop a bit of resin, lay the lam and saturate it so it stays put, roll your cloth back over and then make sure to work the resin all the way in. I think in the case of this board what you did was the right move because you had so many. Hit the cloth that you scar/cut when triming with a little styrene, it will re liquify the resin and bond the frayed ends so you dont get any scaring showing through. It also might help to tape your razor blade when cutting the first lap like you have your hole saw taped off as a guard for the leash plug, it will keep the blade from punching into the foam. Nice work all by yourself in one room! PS i have no clue what im talking about I just make videos ;)
@@CameronSardo dip either a brand new brush or the tip of a paper towel in straight styrene and wipe the edge of the raw cloth where you cut, that's where it would scar and show through. If you use a paper towel be super light cause the paper towel will snag on the frayed edges and could leave a little paper debris. It's kinda magic to watch disappear, you'll trip out.
@@CameronSardo you can do it on your laps and on your logo patches as well as glass on fins. You don't need much and make sure you keep your styrene away from cobalt unless your mixing it in resin or it goes 🔥
Nice to see your videos. I am a newbie glassing 2 boards with epoxy atm. Whats your take on gloves? i see u dont wear them while cutting or cleaning up your laps and taping. Do u ever have contaminations or issues? Mine keep sticking to the tape all the time 😅

I have an old surfboard with many pressure dings. The whole board feels soft. To add more rigidity, can I fill these dings and then glassing it again without removing the existing shell?
mine doesn’t either. there are some printers that do print white or you could do what i did and just lam the board clear. I also know of a place called boardlams that will print your logos/graphics for you but it will of course cost a bit more.

Any reason you went with a cut lap for a clear coat? Just practice?
I find I can sometimes see the lap when I use 6oz fiberglass. It's also quite a bit simpler when sanding for the next layer of glass.

it’s rice paper. you can find some at most art supply stores. i just print on it with a normal at printer.

1/8 inch heat resistant tape. i’m not exactly sure the brand
what tape are you using?
i usually use 3m automotive tape. other brands will work too, just make sure that it’s made to be useable in high temperatures
