    I have the same set up. I use TR or Track 1 so TR 1 Boost on the remote gives me 18v to the track for CC even after breaker tripp. Nice to see the Set running as it should.! 👍😊

    Thank you for this. I wish you had demonstrated an actual postwar lionel engine with this method, but I get the idea. Wish me luck finding a Lionel 990 remote.

    Nice to see you got Powermaster and you have it working as you had hoped. You have helped me in the fact I didn't know about keeping the voltage up when going back to command mode. I did know that they can be time consuming when the breaker trips but not really a big deal. Switching from command to conventional is done with a small switch so where you mount it on your layout you would need to keep it accessible. Small inconveniences but big results. I figure it takes a little time to change out the locomotive so a little extra time to set up the control system is not a big deal. At least an the end of the day you can run whatever you want, wherever you want. That Conrail Safety set looks really nice on your layout, ran really smooth at lower speeds, nice start up speed without jerking.

    Shawn I believe the TR on your remote is for track power,when in conventional mode.that is how the older TMCC version works.. finally you have stack cars.I fully expect you to pre order at least 3 sets of gunderson maxi stack sets😂

    And the MPC era has a certain charm.your PC emerald set up would look great on the main layout

      I will have to make a run of my MPC on the main layout in the future

      @@Dakman in my Tri-Rail o gauge layout guy started when I got the MTH subway car sets I model a prosperous pet Central with a cutoff date of the bicentennial so I can run my bicentennial painted locomotive. My K-Line GG-1 when you press the horn button it plays God bless America. I would love to have a scale diecast GG-1 but I don't want you to have all of the expensive electronics in there just waiting to fail. If I could I would put a diecast shell on one of my Williams locomotive chassis. I love all of my MPC era Penn Central rolling stock which I run behind my diecast MTH freight cars. I love having american-made trains 🚂🚃. I can run New York Central and Pennsylvania railroad locomotive together as well as having passenger trains composed of passenger cars from both railroads. Electric locomotives like the ep5 ran pantographs down when they were in third rail territory. The Penn Central was the canary in the coal mine and when it went under because all the factories it serviced went offshore and all of the coltrains disappeared with oil fueling power plants as well as passenger trains that were money losers as people turn to cars and aircraft. It is a shame that there were more people that wanted to see it fail then wanted to see it succeed.

    10:50 Later production Lionel Track Power controllers will operate MTH FYS, PSA , station stops etc. if no DCS signal is on the loop. Check Legacy PM instruction manual for similar functions. IDK. Origin PM used chopped sine wave silencing original Protosounds. External capacitor across terminals was the band aid. Hope new one fixed that. TPC never had this issue. It handles more watts, has metal case and Lionel catalogs said it was better. TPC can work with Legacy base. 20+ years of TPC w/o failure. No special power cables and uses any transformer too.

    21:40 Multimeter will provide values that the Logic Probe does not. Both cheap. Lamp cord will work too.

    On the subject of wire sizes GM threw me for a loop looking at an engine harness wire diagram for 81-87 trucks by putting the wire sizes in metric sizes like .8 and .5. Had to order a manual specifically for my 82 C10 short bed because at the time I didn't know it was metric sizes they were using in this "generic" diagram. Wasn't until I can across the diagram in the 82 shop manual that I found the chart that list what each gauge size is in millimeters. I know that doesn't really have anything to do with this video, but I figured it was worth sharing regardless😅.

    Hi:
    This is probably a neophyte question but here it goes.
    I have a Railking Norfolk and Western 4-8-4 J Steam Passenger R-T-R Train Set # 30-4036-0 set, a Lionel Polar Express Lionchief and a Lionel Postwar 1666. I want to run all 3 locomotives at once. When I purchased the Postwar 1666, I also purchased a 250 watt ZW transformer from the 1940s. Based on my research, I can run the MTH N&W and the Polar Express on the same track powered by the ZW with a TMCC Direct Lock On. That doesn't appear to be a problem. Running the 1666 is the problem.
    It sounds like the powermaster would solve that problem. I found a Lionel 6-12969 TrainMaster CAB1 Command Set Remote & Base EX/Box for $275. Would this solve my problem?

    I was wondering I have some track and a dc transformer would I need to get the power master. as well

    • @Dakman
      @Dakman  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You would not need a power master if you plan on running trains in a conventional mode. A power master is only a good idea if you want to mix locomotives that are conventional controls and remote controls on the same layout in my opinion.

    I'm a little confused here. Is DCC only for Ho and N scale? Is what you are showing us here just a different form of DCC?

    • @Dakman
      @Dakman  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question. First thing lets talk about power. O gauge uses A/C power and HO/ N & G scale run on DC power. With that being said, DCC is primarily used for 2 rail. Lionel TMCC & Legacy sends a radio signal to the base and then to the locomotive. You would need a board to convert TMCC signals into DCC commands. On another note MTH Proto 3 has a switch on the bottom of their locomotives to choose either DCS or DCC mode. I believe the DCC mode is used if you converted the locomotive to 2 rail. There is a company called "Blue Rail" that introduced a DCC board for O Gauge in 2021 but it doesn't seem to have taken off. But Blue Rail was set up for A/C power and had a plug set up for Tsunami 2 sound decoder

    I had a problem, does the cabe1 remote run legacy power master in command mode ?

    • @Dakman
      @Dakman  ปีที่แล้ว

      A Cab1 remote will not run a Legacy power Master. You need the older power Master for the Cab1 which unfortunately is only capable of handling 135 watt max unlike the Legacy power Master which can handle 180 watt.

    • @mal15102
      @mal15102 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The cab 1 will run a Legacy Powermaster but not directly. The track signal must be used so a Base 1 must also be in the system. The old powermaster can be used with the cab 1 and no base unit. The Lionel video on the subject is so old that when they say powermaster they mean the older or TMCC powemaster.

    As a "toy train" enthusiast and not a "model railroader" I find those control units to be an abomination unto the hobby.
    That said, I'm glad they have a way for people with the older, less advanced equipment to utilize that kind of controls if they want to. It sounds like the control itself is pretty rare and expensive though so that sucks.
    Very nice layout.

    • @Dakman
      @Dakman  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately O gauge control systems are not available in Lionel since they are transitioning to a base 3 which uses a app. Controls are a love or hate thing. Thanks for watching

      I’m with ya there, adding Chinese electronics to the equation isn’t what I want. I’d rather keep it simple and not spend a fortune on stuff that doesn’t improve the experience.
