They really thought like:
"Hmm, how about a volatile status effect that stuns you, has a small bleed effect, and also drains fp, that sounds balanced enough"
The Lazer bolt causes instant madness build up, does around 1400 damage and can hit a second time before the madness debuff clears.
Fair and balanced.
Rolling thru still procs buildup (unless the last patch fixed that) and its a 2 second stun when the bar fills, which is a death sentence in any pvp scenario. Bleed may be way too overtuned but its still not as busted as madness in this condition

Honestly with how many r.O.b. And moon veil gankers I don’t care
if you're trying to run away in PVP you should use the crouch tech for infinite sprint. just crouch and uncrouch really quickly, the bar will fill up for about a second or so and won't drain during that time. as crouch tech takes less than a second to do and you can do it while sprinting without losing much momentum. it's a big gain

Sounds like a salty comment, but is moreso explanatory:
Madness is only really so strong because of phantom hits, which has existed in the Souls series forever; a phantom hit is status effects still 'hitting' when you would gain invincibility frames from rolling. Its never been THIS big of a problem in past games because we didn't have such strong tools as we do in Elden Ring. Hopefully they eventually finally fix this issue that's been a problem in the souls games since DS1 PvP, though chances are they won't.
Anyways try sleep. It's the funny stunlock status effect that is so strong that they decided to not even give it any spells, and no enemies apply it for fear of it being too unfair against players.
They'd rather fucking annihilate status builds instead of fixing it. I'm expecting to throw my dex/arcane build in the trashcan at almost every patch.

They just need to remove the stagger from frost/bleed and make so rolling cant br cancelled by anything

I stopped giving honor to dudes trying to do instant bleed sepukku before dueling me. I just backstab or inescapable frenzy before they finish doing their sepukku.

Frenzied burst alone is broken, if you hit the shot and proc madness, immediately start a new shot and fire without charging and repeat until enemy is dead from infinite stun-lock snipes.

Madness with a dragon communion seal and high arcane can insta proc off of frenzied burst. That's why it's considered op, it's literally an infinite combo off the longest range spell in the game
But the thing is that it's very easy to dodge, you can just run to the side and it won't hit. It's casting animation also gives a really good idea of when to just dodge
Frenzied Burst is pretty good against people who just hold block, aren't paying attention, and are just rushing without thinking
bleed is op because its not damage, it just does a huge chunk of damage depending on the max health of a person. Because if you take the huge dragon that you can kill for 75k runes, the only way to kill it is by using bleed because of its huge health.

i think they sould make strenght weapons faster because everything else seems to be op, so if abseloutely everything is op, nothing is, and no one can complain. problem solved.
They also seem to just do the same exact damage as faster weapons most of the time. I switched from Guts Greatsword to the Tree Sentinel halberd and holy shit it does more damage and it's way faster

I would agree that bleed is stronger than madness in many aspects. Had a build that was double bleed godskin peelers. A jumping attack would one shot most people in pvp with the bleed proc

My only issue with status effects are the logic behind how some of them apply. Take bleed for example, if ive got a 100 phys block shield, how the f am i getting bleed procs on me when i block? It doesnt make any sense. Frost i can understand as cold travels through metal and whatnot, but if you dink a knife against a shield nothing happens, the guy on the other side doesnt get a cut on his arm.
I hope stuff like this are fixed, especially with weapons like rivers of blood in the game.

I then realized it's not my builds, I actually just suck at the game.

ghiza wheel is super fun in both pve and pvp, I also run a faith str with the candle stand and the grafted dragon which is fun.

It sucks that I love all the madness spells, but I'm almost a pure pve player - so the status effect is just non existent for pve sadly. I really wish they would implement it somehow.
