@@Birkebeiner1066 It is true that she aint famous, but her words probably come from the values we believe Scythians held. We are taught in school that Scythians gave an extremely high value to honesty and sincerety which is connected to hopes that their descendants will remember them as honorable people (which in turn is important as in the steppe oral literature and communication was much more dominant than writing and documenting stuff, so you must be a very virtous person to be remembered). These values also show themselves in her disliking surprise wars. So yes, she sticks to her values and hopes to be remembered for it. Plus she was not a warmonger in a quest for glory (the kind of people famous in history), she only had to go to a defensive war against Persia because she lost her husband previously and her son who was killed by Persians, otherwise she would have been a boring, peaceful, unknown leader. My point is she doesn't claim to be a golden name in the history. I know all of it bcuz I come from the region where Scythians lived, people give their daughters her name and shoot movies about her.
Whenever I play Civ 6, I form as many friendships as I can, and try my hardest to hold on declaring war for as long as I can. When I win, I take very little. When I lose, I accept the first treaty proposed to me. I know many people do not play this way, but I do.
They're native speakers of the language or people who have studied the language. There are still a ton of people who speak Nahuatl, for example. In cases like Cleopatra, a language is used that is not from the time period, but still from the region. Cleopatra in real life likely spoke Middle Demotic, but in game speaks Middle Egyptian, which was spoken about 2,000 years earlier. The modern world knows more of the Middle Egyptian language than Middle Demotic, so it's easier to write dialogue for.
TeamClusterTruck There were also cases when Civ had civilisations whose language was forgotten, in which case they used their language's closest modern relatives. For example, Civ V Atilla spoke Chuvash, which is a Russian Turkic language believed to have been related to the language of the Huns.
@TeamClusterTruck: I'm pretty sure that Cleopatra actually spoke Greek, seeing as she was a member of a dynasty founded by one of the generals of Alexander the Great.

K story time I was playing a domination game and Gandhi had only one city left. So I decide to give him a taste of his own medicine and declare a surprise war via nuking his last city. Now the first "strange" thing that happened was that he had no reaction to the war declaration. I'm new to civ so I don't know if that is normal or not when it comes to declaring surprise wars via unit attacks instead of going to the leaders screen. But anyway I waited like 10 turns for the radiation to clear up so I could take the city. Eventually I captured it and something happened I know isn't normal, It didn't play his defeat scene. I just captured the city and chose to keep it and ended my turn. My theory is that since it was a surprise war (and they didn't know I had nukes) they didn't have time to take Gandhi to a bunker and he fucking got incinerated. "You may destroy my body..." Taking out Spain is a little bit depressing. Phillip is a true believer. Victoria just needs to open her mouth and talk about empire to gin up aggro, and her defeat speech makes me even happier I did it.
I agree. I think it’s underrated because the sheer devastation he expresses is heartbreaking. Same with Montezuma.
Everyone:accepting defeat
Phillp: Por qúe?!?
0:29 It must be a special kind of terror and despair to feel that you’ve failed not only your people, but your gods as well.
I wholeheartedly expected Hojo to recite his Jinsei and commit Seppuku

I like how Tomyris talks about being remembered even though no one even knew she was a historical person before she made an appearance in the game
I am not even mad, u just never studied central asian history. Does it mean she is forgotten tho?
@@balislamseidazov8707 it actually means she's one of many characters who's historical achievements never really were quite grand enough to reach outside the region from which they hail and that, among these characters, she is the only one with the audacity to claim she will be remembered, an ironic statement I decided to call her out on with the comment you have been so kind as to reply to.

Gorgo doesn't look that mad at all.
how do these people how read let along say these old languages like the aztec language?
They're native speakers of the language or people who have studied the language. There are still a ton of people who speak Nahuatl, for example. In cases like Cleopatra, a language is used that is not from the time period, but still from the region. Cleopatra in real life likely spoke Middle Demotic, but in game speaks Middle Egyptian, which was spoken about 2,000 years earlier. The modern world knows more of the Middle Egyptian language than Middle Demotic, so it's easier to write dialogue for.
Similarly, Gilgamesh speaks Old Akkadian rather than Sumerian, for similar reasons. Pieces of Sumerian are here and there in his dialogue, though.
The Aztec language is not dead. Nahuatl is still spoken in some areas in Mexico.
TeamClusterTruck There were also cases when Civ had civilisations whose language was forgotten, in which case they used their language's closest modern relatives. For example, Civ V Atilla spoke Chuvash, which is a Russian Turkic language believed to have been related to the language of the Huns.
@TeamClusterTruck: I'm pretty sure that Cleopatra actually spoke Greek, seeing as she was a member of a dynasty founded by one of the generals of Alexander the Great.
qhi shi huang dont cry. I will build all the wonders you took from me a long time ago for me this time

But... Hardrada was Christian...
Paganism and Christianity overlapped quite a bit in Scandinavia.
Still does today, especially in Norway.
Source: Norwegian.
I'm aware that Christianity in Scandinavia went through a syncretic phase for a short time after conversion but in what way do Paganism and Christianity overlap in modern Norway?
But he was viking at the same time so no matter
I can see how they could mix their ideas of Valhalla with heaven as the bible describes it

Paz e prosperidade para o brasil
Hearing the last words of my emperor Dom Pedro II, and knowing his prayer has not been answered, tears my soul apart every time.
Wow Hojo outright just wants you to kill him
Montezuma sounds so crushed, like that's genuine sorrow in his voice :(
The first civ I ever conquered was Spain, I was Australia and my empire was bigger than his he declared war and his siege failed, he asked for peace, begged for it, but I destroyed him and his only legacy was the two Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona. His treachery was over and I vowed never to wage war again.
If there's one thing the Arabian empire is known for, it's detesting war. Thanks, mate.

Que Deus me conceda esses últimos desejos - paz e prosperidade ao Brasil
Enquanto o imperador queria isso, os politicos querem a ruina e destruição do Brasil, e infelizmente estão conseguindo.
Every time I see Hojo’s defeated cutscene, I think he’s killing himself with his katana, stabbing himself in the stomach. Then he turns his body and I realize that he’s just sheathing it.

o1o1o1 all of these nations are referred as empires in the game
When I first defeated America and I heard him say "Congratulations", I was really surprised.

K story time
I was playing a domination game and Gandhi had only one city left.
"You may destroy my body..."
