The reason for this isn’t because the developers hate India or wish to defame Gandhi’s its a reference to the an accidental glitch which occurred in the first game where Gandhi’s aggression would go from 1 to 255 by accident. China goes back to around 2000 B.C.E with the Shi (or Xia, I’m not sure), which was the first dynasty ruling over China. Japan, even if we believe all the mythology, only goes back to around 700 B.C.E.

@Yahweh Official The reports are conflicting but some say that he was a vassal and some say that he was just a tributary. Either way, Tang dynasty was much larger and stronger than whatever irrelevant empire that this guy was talking about. Comparing this guy to Alexander is weird because he doesn't have nearly as many military victories as Alexander. If you want to add another militaristic Indian leader then why not someone like Baji Rao 1, who was known to be a military genius? Probably should add him in as a leader of Maratha empire, and not just India. He didn't even conquer all of North India, let alone South India. No one talks about irrelevant figures like him, and the reason Chandragupta is in Civ 6 is because he actually conquered most of India and established a respectable empire. Gandhi is often referred to as "The father of modern India" and was a major figure in Indian independence which is why he represents India in the game. Plus he's been here since Civ 1 and is iconic so there's no point in replacing him.

India goes back to the Indus River Valley civilization which we can trace back to around -3500 B.C.E. China goes back to around 2000 B.C.E with the Shi (or Xia, I’m not sure), which was the first dynasty ruling over China. Japan, even if we believe all the mythology, only goes back to around 700 B.C.E.

The Indus Valley Civilisation had different languages, different ethnicities, different architecture, different religious traditions, different attire, different art and different infrastructure to modern India. If Indus Valley counts as modern India, than Sumeria counts as modern Iraq, and ancient Egypt counts as modern Egypt.
And even then, the Indus Valley Civilisation was located almost entirely in Pakistan, so it can't be considered part of modern India.

And Lalitaditya is better than Alexander? He was a vassal of Tang Empire and barely conquered parts of North India and Central Asia before falling apart. Alexander conquered way more land.

@Yahweh Official The reports are conflicting but some say that he was a vassal and some say that he was just a tributary. Either way, Tang dynasty was much larger and stronger than whatever irrelevant empire that this guy was talking about. Comparing this guy to Alexander is weird because he doesn't have nearly as many military victories as Alexander.
If you want to add another militaristic Indian leader then why not someone like Baji Rao 1, who was known to be a military genius? Probably should add him in as a leader of Maratha empire, and not just India.
He didn't even conquer all of North India, let alone South India. No one talks about irrelevant figures like him, and the reason Chandragupta is in Civ 6 is because he actually conquered most of India and established a respectable empire.
Gandhi is often referred to as "The father of modern India" and was a major figure in Indian independence which is why he represents India in the game. Plus he's been here since Civ 1 and is iconic so there's no point in replacing him.
