- I'm not sure how I've not been to Lyme Park before?! This parkrun has been around for almost a decade and it is stunning! The parkrun partnership with the National Trust means we get to parkrun in some of the most spectacular places in the country and I am so grateful.
Lyme Park is 100% trail, very muddy at this time of year, and is far from flat... but you mustn't let you the hills and mud keep you away! Make no mistake, this is a parkrun gem! I absolutely love trail running and the variation in course here is gorgeous. The wildness up on the moor, and the views down into Manchester and out across the Peak District National Park are breathtakingly beautiful and The Cage is such an impressive building. This is a parkrun you won't forget.
After parkrun a visit to the house and gardens is highly recommended. You can step right into Pride and Prejudice, and the formal gardens and Orangery are not to be missed!
I can't recommend a visit to Lyme Park parkrun enough, it has to be seen to be believed.

Yes! It's awesome isn't it! We did a loop up to the Old Man of Coniston in gale force winds and it was awesome! Something I'll always remember 😃

Since the beginning of April 2023 there are also beavers in the lake! I'd definitely say that Trentham Gardens is one of the top 3 parkruns to do in North Staffordshire.
Wow!!!! That's a parkrun I would love to do. It's like a proper trail run! I can't believe it's actually classed as a parkrun. I am not normally a fan of parkruns because I am not keen on loops on the tarmack. But this is somewhere I wouldn't mind doing a parkrun.

Great video Nicola, stunning moorland scenery. From sideways rain to ice cream in a few hours is impressive. Glad the cow trigger warning proved to be a false alarm
I was so scared that the cows would be there!!! I was so relieved! Lol... There's no weather too bad for ice cream 😉 but we were so pleased that the weather brightened up!
Was just there last parkrunday. Best weather of the year so far. 22 times I've run it and the view from the cage really never gets old. It used to be our home until pivi Gardens started last November. Will be here for my 100th parkrun in July hopefully.

I love and hate loop courses. Love them because you never cover the same ground and hate them because my nearest ones are so seriously hilly. Another great video from you and Poppy.
Lol I know what you mean... Poppy prefers when there's at least 2 laps but 1 lappers are my favourite because you see so much more. It feels more like exploring to me which I find exciting 😃 And lol... I have a love hate relationship with hills 🤣

One of my locals, and favourites. Did the trial and tailwalked the inaugural. The path by wall after coming through the wood is fantastic, as well as views from the cage.
I really wish I lived closer! Although if I ran there loads then the probability of seeing the cows would be a lot higher! 🤔🤣

Lyme Park is stunning, one of my favourite (and slowest) Parkruns! Each time I go I reckon I can tackle that first hill - I'm such a fool haha. The technical sections, including the downhill from The Cage, are wonderful :)

Wow, what a spectacular parkrun though not one if your looking for a fast time. It reminds me a bit of a parkrun in Surrey in the grounds of a Vineyard just a short walk from the office I worked in may years ago though I don't think the hills are quite as steep as at Lyme Park. Love the fact that there such a variety of parkruns, fast, slow, hilly, tarmac, trail, grass etc.

Wow...that really did look awesome. I googled "The Cage" too and it has a really interesting history. I always have extra admiration for those volunteers when the weather isn't cooperating. Thanks Nicola and Popster for bringing us this great video. (I also think Walter is a great name for a dog)
The history is fascinating isn't it?! The house is Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice too. The volunteers were definitely heroes that day! So cold and wet! And I totally agree, Walter is an ace doggy name... Although apparently so is Poppy! 🤣🤣🤣

Relatively local and... actually my least favourite parkrun. Glad you caught it on a much nicer day than I did though, I can understand why others like it, even if it was traumatic for me! (I simply won't go within 250m or so of The Cage ever since)
Oh my goodness... What happened?! Why traumatic?! I did wonder how I would have felt if the cows were there 🤦🏻♀️🤣 probably traumatised!
@@NicolaRuns The weather turned about 8:30 as Storm Dennis rolled in, and I was a totally new runner at the time, didn't even really know trail shoes were a thing. First half was okay but got to The Cage, gale force winds (tail wind as well trying to wipe out my legs going down the hill), hard driving rain and absolutely zero grip under foot in road shoes on the sodden surface. Tbh, wanted to find a way to shelter in The Cage and call Mountain Rescue, it had turned that badly.
@@JasonCliftJones is it bad that this made me laugh 🤣 it sounds like one of those runs where everything just goes wrong! You have to laugh or you'll cry! 🙃
@@NicolaRuns It's long enough ago that you're fine, though I was very much ready to throw my shoes in the bin at the end of it. I didn't run at all for 2 weeks after that, and then only cos a friend (who I was with at FAbbey last week) needed a guide runner. Not usually meant to come away from a parkrun wanting to never run again!

Oh yes you can definitely walk them! In October last year they did the parkwalk initiative to try to bring more awareness to the fact that you can walk because the name maybe suggests otherwise. Our friends walked this one with Poppy and took over an hour... You can complete parkrun at whatever speed is good for you. Sometimes I want to run really hard and sometimes we walk 😃
