Good practical & sensible video. My daughter is happy again. The only thing to add was a tip if the heating element is not broken in half as yours. To insert the new thermal fuse use thin wire push this through the small cable channel holes, tie them off through the fuse circular wire ends. This makes a pull through so that you get the ends of the fuse through the small cable channels. A little push with long nose pliers also helps. Thank you for this video.
Great video, just replaced the Thermal Fuse and fixed my daughters GHD's, perfect video, thanks so much for taking the time to do such an in-depth video, massive help :)
Thanks so much for this kris. Even a 57 year old bloke with poor eyesight and sausage fingers has managed to get the dreaded GHDs back up and running. Advice to viewers...If you intend to repair a set, go on amazon first and order the mains cable and thermal fuses for the GHD 5.0. It will cost you about £25 all in including postage.
Excellent, only needed to replace cable, and that simply because of exposure of inner Live & Neutral due to OCD twisting of cable, on dearly beloved's part, for storage over 8/10 years. Detail in video best I've seen since unblocking a Saniflow, & considerably more pleasant! From discovering video to replacing courtesy of Amazon, 18 hours & £7.95. Glasgow west end, so very at home with accent. Good fun, good detail, good price - doesn't get better. Thanks.
If you have to replace the thermal fuse, check the thermistor, there is normaly a reason for the thermal fuse blowing and usually its down too the thermistor.
Hi I have the ghd 5 to repair for my wife, one side works but the other doesnot. I have checked the heater and getting 66.6 ohms on both teh heaters, the continuity on the thermal fuse. What else can I check for the side which does not work. hope you can suggest soemthing, circuit board resisters r8 and 11 give me a reading and do not look burnt out.
hi, i have GHD 5.0, have replaced thermal fuse because it was broken, but now when turn on i listen beep and only one resistor is warm, the resistor near termistor is cool. What i can check ?
i know this was ages ago, any chance i could get in touch with you about my straighteners? the little ghd logo bits on each side has snapped off but the electric still works. can you help?
So with my multi metre I have continuity throughout the cable from plug down to the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse has continuity so must be ok can’t figure it out
Hi can you please help me ... I have a ghd Mk5 model I replaced the thermal fuse and it's still not switching on I tested the resistors R8 and R11 they were fine i tested the plates they were fine i tested the main cable that's fine so i can't see what else can be the problem .. Will you please be so kind to give me advice at what else might be the cause cos now currently it's not switching on no beeping sound nothing I checked everything that are usually the problems PLEASE HELP ME.Thank you for your videos 😄🥰
Fantastic video mate. I wish all were this in depth. I followed your video and replaced my fuse, but the fuse lasted 1 time. Bad smell and plates took a bit longer to heat up. I did notice there was a lot of thermal paste on the plate back when disassembling. The fuse I took out had no cover on the contact with the plate. The new one was completely wrapped like yours, so i fitted it like you with it all on. Any ideas what is wrong. Could i have a faulty fuse? I bought it from amazon as a comparable item.
Either the thermistor on the other element was faulty (should be 100k ohms at room temp) or the element that the thermistor is stick onto was faulty. 80% of the time the fuse has died of old age, 10% of the time it's a faulty thermistor and 10% of the time it's a faulty element on the thermistor side.
Hi all any help would be appreciated. Ghd tested cable. Tested resistors. Tested fuse. Still no joy nothing happens when plugged in not even the led light comes on. Fuse in plug is also tested. Bob
Hi there, I tried all of he above instructions as I do think it is the fuse but there is still no power. I've replaced the fuse and there's a new lead with plug also. Do you have any suggestions I don't want to give up just yet 😩.
Surprised that you could find the specific cord and socket, as well as the thermal fuse on ebay. But very good to know. How did you search for them? Good channel, just found you yesterday. keep up the good videos!
Kevin Hardisty Cheers Kevin...Luckily one of the UKs biggest GHD spares companies is 4 miles from me so I got all the spares shown for £18! Spares are easy to find on eBay just by searching the model number. Cheers for your kind comments!
Not really thermistors are sensitive to changes in electrical resistance and temperature change, where as fuses are solely for circuit protection so they tend to fail first but check both. The fuse will tend to fail first.
thanks, also a question I was going to ask, but looking at the video at 15:01 you can nearly make out everything written on the board and this gave me confidence that there was just one due to the labelling.

What a great video. Bought a thermal fuse for unde £2.00 on ebay and followed the straight forward instructions on the video. Thank you!
sarb dhillon plz guid me any one I want to increase tha heat of my straightener
Great video, struggled with the spring but eventually got there with abit of wiggle. Thanks 🙏
This video helped me repair my wife's Ghd straightener. You are the best.
Great video thanks Kris! Have identified the thermal fuse so got one on order to keep the Mrs happy, 🤞get it all back together as easy. Thank you
Fingers crossed!
All sorted works again thanks mate much appreciated 👍
So it seems the thermal fuse has blown. Just ordered one. Wouldn't have known that without this vid. Appreciate it.

Thanks so much!
Great video thanks. On my wife’s the resistor R8 had failed, swap R8 & R11 as a pair same values, all sorted now.
Grazie mille!!!! Seguito tutti i passaggi e adesso funziona!!!!!!
I can't speak for others, however I found this video thoroughly enjoyable!!
Many thanks just fixed my partner's GHD'S it was the thermal fuse but replaced lead and internal connection at the same
Cheers big man, just sorted the wife out with your wee video.
Great wee instructional.
You just saved me $400 bucks. Stoked. Cheers!
Thanks for help with that spring demo when reassembling. Really stumped me.
Appreciated!
thanks very much. Fixed my daughters straighteners for £2.79 rather than buy a new pair for £100
you are some man saved the womens life. AMEN 2 U x

Great video. I repaired the wife’s straighteners with your advice and got a blow job out of it.
Thanks buddy !
Would be able to give a link for the parts please

Big thank you, fixed one for the wife. Perth, Australia.
And again 1 year later

Great video pal, really well done.
i know this was ages ago, any chance i could get in touch with you about my straighteners? the little ghd logo bits on each side has snapped off but the electric still works. can you help?
Great video I’ll be doing this today
Brilliant explanation!!! 👍👍👍
Where could I buy another cable with that connection
So with my multi metre I have continuity throughout the cable from plug down to the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse has continuity so must be ok can’t figure it out
No termistor replacing is needed? it is located in the other ceramic block.
Really useful - particularly reassembling the spring
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic video.

Thanks a million for the video🙂
Much appreciated bro🙏
Quality video !
Legend. Thanks!
My straightner wire is melting and what to do now!!! *_*

Brilliant video thanks
Great video, Thanks Alot
Great stuff thanks
Are the thermal fuses same for all ghd straighteners or are there different sizes? Great video will save me few quid thankyou👍x
Doesn’t the thermal fuse normally go because the straighteners get too hot? And they get too hot because the thermistor has broken??

SUPER HELPFUL!!!
Please help me fix mine glassgow earea 🙈 x
thank you 🙏
You're welcome 😊
Displayed off condition no on what problem
Would there be a thermal fuse behind both plates?
+madbstard1 No there is only one thermal fuse, the other plate has the thermistor for the temperature sensing...I probably should have said that lol.
thanks, also a question I was going to ask, but looking at the video at 15:01 you can nearly make out everything written on the board and this gave me confidence that there was just one due to the labelling.
Should have just said they were bust and kept them, would be handy for heatshrink.
+stealth banana Haha...I'll stick with the Atten clone.
plz hindi
