    I read that one big reason these individually wrapped expensive fruits exist in Japan is because they have a very strong gifting culture. The fancy fruits like this are intended to be purchased and given as formal gifts in work or business settings. The fruits hold high cultural status as an appropriate gift, are safe and inoffensive, and completely solve the dilemma of trying to pick out a specific personalized gift for colleagues/peers.

    Well in Japan everything has to be perfect, not just the people but food as well, especially fruits. So perfect size, color, shape, taste and so on. Unfortunately this means that a lot of pestizides and other chemicals are approved in farming. Also a lot of plastic waste because a lot of them are individually packed in plastic. This equates to contests for most beatiful fruits and so you can stumble upon really expensive fruits.

    We have a few varieties of Mangos here in South Africa, one kind exactly like the one you just ate and they are not as pricey. They’re actually pretty cheap the further north you go. We have a special pickle as well that uses mangos and it uses the more greener, less sugary ones found mostly in the East.
    They ripen around Sep-Feb…and they’re friggin amazing. Juicy and sweet, fleshy with a fragrant skin. The more freckles the sweeter. We also have that weird hook-type one and there’s another of them that is quite small with a thinner skin but still with a sweet taste, just not as sweet as the hooked one or the one you just had…
    Super yum!!! But I wouldn’t spend $68 for them…😟

      I planted Dragon fruit 2 years ago and last year it beared more than 21 fruits and this year there is more yield.Its more sweeter than market too but I saw the difference here.... You pay $ 6.42 in market but not sweet at all whereas home grown is more sweeter and flavourful. 😊

    • @anas5sherwani
      @anas5sherwani ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah spending $68 for one mango is called foolishness! In India too, there are varieties, thats sweeter than miyazaki and are very much cheaper too, like Rs. 20-30 per Kg for World Famous Dussehri Mango, Chausa Mango, Rs. 50-100 per kg fo Gulab Khaas, Husn-e-Aara, Zardalu, etc.
