I'm going to add this as a PSA since I've done some research on my own after being a little frustrated with this video in that not all zippers have the size stamped on them. The number size, in this case "5" is shown, refers to the approx. width of the zipper, measure in millimeters (mm) when the zipper is closed. Measure only to the edges of the teeth. I might add that people shouldn't be too critical of a good person trying to help others with videos like this. Besides no explanation of the zipper size, I like this video...well done.
Actually I went to the sewing shop (it's like a treasure trove of bits and pieces and sewing sundries😊) with just a photo of my busted zipper and the salesperson knew right away it was a Vislon (plastic not metal)5, apparently that's kind of standard for jacket zips😮 took it home watched this vid and done in 45 seconds.🎉🎉 BTW the zipper at the store had a V, Roman numeral five, rather than a 5 itself, on the back of the zip. 2:40
You literally saved my sanity. After putting in dozens of zippers (a while back) in canvas application, I had a total brain block when converting a separating zipper slider from one pull to double pull slider. Duh. Thanks for walking through so closely and carefully for me. Well done!
Thank you for posting. I did it! I purchased replacement zipper heads from Amazon but they came with no instructions. After watching your video I was able to quickly fix three of my favorite fleece tops. 💕
Very helpful! Thank you for posting this. Just fixed my parka. I didn't want to sew in a new zipper. Just replacing the plastic zipper itself worked great.
Excellent video; thank you! Question: Is there pliers that work best for breaking various stoppers? Also, is there a place you recommend we order the zipper pull replacements? Mine break after a while I think from being thrown around in the dryer.
@@sewway and where can we get new stoppers for it? You seemed to just take one of the teeth of another zipper? What do I do if I don’t have another zipper lying around (or if I don’t have one with metal teeth?
For those who need it and dont want to destroy the zipper's end. I widen one side of the zipper by inserting an edge of a fork and then twisting it until it is able to fit in the teeth thats has the thing which prevents it from falling. And then after its inserted, clamp down the zipper using your hand or pliers and you zipper is fixed.
Many thanks for the video. I have a zip that is broken and it has "5" and "A" stamped on it... Any idea what the A means? It is a plastic zipper for a garden growhouse/greenhouse.
5 - slider size A - spiral type You can buy a slider №5, but with a different letter and it will not work. It is advisable to have with you a sample of a broken slider, or even better the zipper.
I am an audiovisual learner and thought your video was so helpful, I subscribed. However, the zipper I am trying to fix is on a tote/carryon bag. Both ends are identical and the zipper slider is missing. So I don't have a size reference
Thank you for your post. I have a question: Could you please tell me what size the brown zipper is? I have a jacket in which the slider is broken and I lost it, then I cannot check the size of the zipper. But I guess the brown zipper, which you have used in the video is like my jacket.
Can this still be done if you can’t reach the top stop or the bottom of the teeth. Our zip has broken on the baby’s “next to me” in our room but we can’t reach the top or bottom of the zipper teeth without busting the stitching potentially ruining the next to me. Any help would be appreciated..
In this case, you can rip out a pair of upper zipper teeth with pliers and insert your slider. Then wrap this void with threads For kids' clothes, such a tough option will work.
Means you can't learn and that you're not learning why you can't learn... If you have a short attention span, you probably won't listen either if it was narrated. It's your fault. Hit the replay button and watch it again...
*Great* tutorial! Now go watch some at-home hack videos on eliminating nail fungus or you risk losing your right thumb nail which you need for these projects!!!
WTF? You have to ruin a separate zipper to fix the one that's broken? And they could shave a few minutes if they just spoke English instead of pointing.
soooo in order to fix the zipper on my favourite jacket i should BREAK IT first... and then fix it again by BREAKING ANOTHER ZIPPER... right, thanks a lot.

Thanks for the useful information, we did not carry out such research

Tsym for this video. I was able to save my mom's sweatshirt because of you.

Side cutters, end-cutting nippers

brilliant!! thank you for the instructions...fixed an expensive coat destined for the bin!!
For some reason, your post reminded me of the time I pulled the brass zip up on a tweed shooting coat and shredded my favourite cashmere scarf. 😫

Original way, but not desirable to do so. You weaken the pressed mold and it will not last long.
Can you please tell me where to buy the zipper head? I need size 5H
If I sent you my polo windbreaker to fix could you it takes a 5 and c type of zipper
Sorry, but we do not provide such services.
What if you dont have the zipper and dont know what number replacement should be?

The most reliable way is to ask the seller at the sewing accessories store to match the slider to your zipper.
Excellent 🎉
That last piece what is it called... The one that stops the slider of the zipper
The top stop.
The thing thet you pull the zipper broke. I want to know how to replace it
Buy a new one on Amazon, I specifically made a video to explain how to choose the right one
Thank you, saved my favourite leather jacket from 'DOOM'. Will wear it another 10 years now.
These things are indestructible, you need to have good health when buying them

Very useful. Nice nails too.

Thanks. A zipper on an old sweater of mind randomly broke. I would’ve had to throw it away if it weren’t for this video.
I also sometimes don't want to make more videos, but comments like this don't allow me to do that. Thank you
thank you so much this is so helpful

Illuminating!
Thank you
Thank you
So you have to have another zipper set in order to fix one?
No, you just need to buy a new slider and set it. It is much cheaper than changing your zipper at a tailor shop.
Thank you
This was exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much for posting it!👏
What’s music on background?
Do you like the music? They often scold me that the music is terrible. But seriously, this is from the TH-cam music library

Lose the music, add the narration with voice
Thanks for the advice. Be sure to take into account in the following videos
Wishing you talked lmao
Audio would be nice!
You're right, it's good to make audio, invite an experienced operator, hire a director, producer, etc. I'm dreaming about that
Try talking it’s helpful

Narration would have made it easier to understand. The irritating music was annoying and distracting.
Not all people speak English, you need to be able to make educational material accessible to everyone for understanding.
WTF? You have to ruin a separate zipper to fix the one that's broken? And they could shave a few minutes if they just spoke English instead of pointing.
I didn't invite you to visit my house, but if you come, behave yourself
All these videos are *useless* do a 'how to' vid with a zipper thats ACTUALLY attached to a jacket or bag or something other then a zipper component.
Thank you
