    For dissembling the slide assembly of the LCP Max you can use the magazine to pop the pin out. No need for extra tool.

  • @michaelschaffer9165
    @michaelschaffer9165 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pearce Grips makes a magazine extension that is a bit longer. You can probably get all your fingers on it. That increases control.

    Use a brass case to pull the disassembly pin. That’s your tool.

    I put my first 200 rounds (150 Federal FMJ and 50 Hornady Critical Defense) through my LCP Max recently, and here are my results (all at 7 yards):
    -Swapped sights with S&W Bodyguard 3-dot Tritium sites. They work quite well for my eyes.
    -I started feeling that soreness in my palm you described after about 150 rounds. Definitely easier to shoot longer than my LCP2. At that point I stopped and installed a Hogue grip-sleeve. That helped with the rest.
    -I had one failure to feed. It ejected the previous round but didn’t feed the next round (slide was forward but empty chamber).
    -I had one failure to lock the slide back (used 3 10-rd mags and two 12-rd mags). They don’t seem as reliable locking back when done by hand.
    -All failures were with the Federal FMJ. The Critical Defense ammo cycled flawlessly, though, I still want to put more through it.
    -Careful aim, good grip, and good trigger control is dead-on accurate, but anything less is not forgiving.

    I have about 200 rounds through mine and really like it. Have had no slide hold back issues. I, too, am finding myself picking it up over my Sig P365. Really like the Sig and think is more comfortable to shoot - but the weight difference is very noticeable. Nice review.

    I've carried and HR218 qualed my P365 for years and love it, but with the LOD injury I have, the lighter I carry the better. The Max fits the bill perfectly and the feel is not that much different than the P365. Now the Max goes everywhere with a 12 rd mag in it and 2 - 12 rd spares just like when I carried the P365. It's a ton lighter also. I pushed a S&W Bodyguard 380 Truglo night sight onto the rear and it's perfect. Putting a Talon rubber grip made a better feel. I've put 300 rounds of every flavor of ammo through it and it eats it all no problems. The most accurate I've fired in it was the Remington Golden Saber 102 gr but it's also the worst for recoil. Mine loves the Winchester PDX so that's my carry ammo. The P365 and LCP Max are both great pistols. You made a great video. BIG THUMBS UP TO YOU.

    Great review. I've got a little over 500 rounds through mine now. I've also had the slide lock back issue but I've also concluded that the magazine feeds reliably anyway. Eventually we'll see a fix for that; slightly stretching the magazine spring helps for awhile. From a practical view point the LCP Max is my best carry option and I can live with the lock back issue. My accuracy has really improved with this model (as has the trigger) and I've had zero reliability issues beyond an occasional last round lock back. I don't own a P365 but for me the LCP Max replaces a problematic P938.

    I have a Remington RM380 for the few days in the summer that I just can't conceal my P365XL (might be taking my shirt off on a hot day). The gun works perfectly and feels fine, but only has 6 round mags. The MAX having 10 and 12 round mags instills more confidence. I've recently seen a couple videos that are disturbing if you only have 7 or 13 rounds (not enough). I watched a cop empty a 20 round mag, plus 1 in the chamber, at or into a guy at close range, and after the guy went down (only after the mag was empty) he got back up and RAN at the cops again. It took 4 more direct hits to take him down again, and he STILL wasn't dead. These guys hyped up on drugs are unstoppable with only 7 or 13 rounds. The Max is actually .100" shorter than my RM380 and only .260" taller. It should fit in my pocket just as well as my RM380. I need to shoot one to see how it feels. This is a very complete video about what you found with this gun. Thanks for making it.

    The Ruger LCP2 is a very problamatic handgun. Has feed and ejector problems. My new LCP2 blew out the extractor, after only 60 rouds of brass ammo. I searched the internet and many other LCP2 owners, have had this problem. I called Ruger this morning 10/12/2021 about the issue. They said, that the LCP2 is problamatic in this area, because unlike the Max, the ejector is not pinned to the slide, it's just pressed in. They are aware of the issues with the LCP2 and they are sending me a new slide and barrel through the mail. My question is, if they know about this issue, why aren't they recalling this firearm. I will not EDC this firearm with this known defect.

    So in the manual ruger says it's normal to not lcok back on a manual slide pull.
    But regarding firing it, you can try to stretch the spring out a bit, but honestly the best bet is to do a maguts conversion of the mag internals.
    Maguts is a company if you aren't familiar.
    Replaces the spring and follower. Much much more stout.

    Make sure the lever that locks the slide to the rear is clean and lubricated. A stronger spring in the magazine may just be over compensating for lack of lubrication. Mine has never failed to lock with both 10 and 12 round mags after 250 rounds. I did replace the trigger up front which required disassembly which gave me access to the lever on the left side.

    • @bench175
      @bench175  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good review. But because the Max has some issues I don’t like, I don’t carry mine now as I went back to my old Glock 42. First reason is reliability. I had a couple of FTF issues. Maybe becasue it was new, but my Glock never had any. Next is poor accuracy with the Max. The Max is significantly less accurate at 25 yds compared to the Glock 42. Fail. Next, I have the same issue where the slide doesn’t lock back on the last round with the Max. Fail. Tool disassembly with the max is a fail. The Max definitely is NOT a range shooter. It’s not as comfortable as shooting my Glock 42. The 42 absorbs felt recoil so much better and double taps are more accurate than the Max. The size of the Max is smaller than my Glock 42… and that’s exactly why I prefer the 42! The 42 holds and feels so much better in the hands when firing. Finally, the trigger. Like my LCP-2, the Max trigger is nothing to write home about. It’s too long and mushy for me. The Pro is that the Max holds more rounds than the Glock. But… was that even necessary for a micro .380??? I say, NOPE! 6+1 plus two spare mags in my pants pocket for the Glock is just fine for me. Again, the 10 or 12 round .380 Max mag isn’t necessary. If I’m going to carry higher capacity, then I’m going to be carrying a 9mm! Finally is cost and availability of magazines. Ruger magazines cost nearly 35% more than Glock mags, but Glock mags are found everywhere. I don’t know why I bought the max. It feels like a clanky toy that rattles in my hand. It’s back in the safe. I’ll probably sell it.

    Not trying to tell you how to live but you should at least put 500 rds through any weapon with which you are planning to defend your life. I have the LCP Max as well and I got the biggest issues between rd 200 and 300, issues severe enough that I sent it back to Ruger after only 300 rds. I had them replace the barrel and the entire slide assembly, after which it made it through it's 500 rd test.

    • @bench175
      @bench175  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. What were the issues?

    • @mcb2757
      @mcb2757 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bench175 The biggest issue was a dead trigger, which occurred around round 300 and is why I sent it in. There were a lot of other smaller issues that were just annoying, like the gun failing to go completely into battery, slide not locking back on an empty mag and an inability to unload a round out of the chamber with the mag detached. You had to take the gun apart to get the round out (may be a common thing in very small guns). Along with these issues were several, several failures to feed. It could be that I just got a lemon. However after sending it into Ruger and having them replace the slide assembly there are no longer any issues after 500 rds.

      @@bench175 it’s funny because I picked up all the same ammo the last time I was there too when I bought my LCP max. I wish they would get more steel cased .380 monarch bulk boxes, but it also isn’t the best ammo to feed this my LCP max with.

    Do you recommend this as a new gun for a first time gun owner? Was comparing this to the Glock 19 and M&P Shield EZ. The size seems to be great for carry.

      @bench175  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Max 380 is definitely a better size for carry if you can only have one gun, and it would be fine for a new owner who is aware that a smaller gun will have more recoil. It might be better to first get a larger, easier gun to shoot that will promote practice and learning fundamentals, and then go for a small carry gun.

    If you force your brain to learn to shoot with your pinky hanging off you will shoot every gun better. There's no reason to use pinky extension, it only makes it harder to hide.

    Just out of curiosity... in my .380EZ, I really like Underwood 68gr normal or +P Xtreme Defender and Underwood 100gr HCFN, normal - the +P verges on uncomfortable for my arthritis but is absolutely tolerable for 3-4 magazines. Anyway, the EZ is not very concealable on my 5'6", 150 lb frame so I' m thinking about keeping it for the bedstand and getting this Ruger for carry. I wondered what your thoughts were on that??

      If you'll carry in a holster, and you're okay with no manual safety, it's hard to beat. I don't run hot ammo however because its so lightweight. I tried some Norma 85gr?1280fps and it kinda stung my trigger finger.

      @@bench175 i think I'd get the "Sticky" pocket holster. My chosen ammo would be whatever shoots best in this platform that doesn't overwhelm it. I'd like to try Udwd 68gr XtDef non +P and Udwd 100gr HCFN non +P (975 fps, 211 fpe) also 85 gr Barnes. Fed HST

    What type of ammo do you carry? I also carry a 365x and today I backed out of buying 124 gr +p ammo because I’m not sure if I should stick to regular 124 gr ammo.

      I've been using ammo with Hornady XTP bullets because I like the roundness of the hollow point for feeding reliability.

      I agree. Outside of LEO, ASP has like one video of a civilian reloading and that was after the threat was down anyways. Doesn't happen real world. Someone will say yeah but.... but but but just carry a shotgun everywhere then.

      Bizarre statement
      They can sell stuff cheaper because they don’t include the extra magazine
      That you can then get on your own
      It definitely makes sense to include the 12 round magazine with this gun but it’s definitely not a dealbreaker that prevents me from getting the best pocket carry pistol there is
