    This car without the M-Sport pack does not look good. That really transforms the 340i, as it adds all the exterior aggressive styling, electronic dampers, and that sexy M steering wheel.

    These cars have aged really well. Even though the interiors are simple in design, it cannot be denied that the materials are great and it reinforces driver focus. They are a solid deal nowadays and I do believe they have aged much better in overall style compared to C class. Especially with the M sport package.

      Yep same. No issues with iDrive. On a daily basis I don't find myself digging deep into submenus, especially when driving. Also the voice recognition is one of the best in the business.
      iDrive is also why I didnt buy the Cadillac ATS. The Cue system is just atrocious.

      No matter how complicated a system is, if you use it for long enough it'll eventually get to the point where it's very easy to use. The point Roman is trying to make it that this system requires some knowledge on what the controller does and how to get to the menu you're trying to get to. Like in a touch screen system you find in cheaper cars, you can access everything just with a click of a button or touch. No need to scroll through 50 things just to change the radio station. I prefer complex systems like iDrive because once you master them you'll realize that everything has a shortcut and it's very user friendly. But for basic folks who don't know anything about technology, this is a nightmare. They'll figure out touch screen systems in Camry and Altima family quickly but using iDrive or MMI system will be frustrating.

    • @DivideBYZero69
      @DivideBYZero69 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      iDrive has two key ergonomic wins for me; 1 - Shortcut keys. The 8 keys on the dash are configurable to common settings and menu options you use daily. 2 - The shortcut keys around the controller are great for muscle memory use.

      I had a 2007 LS460 and the touch screen was very easy to use. The 2013 GS350 I got as a rental every time I took LS for service had a complicated system that required more attention while driving. But in the end I still liked the newer much larger screen and infotainment system as a whole. It just seems cooler and I prefer my screen to not have finger prints all over.

    Great show, guys. The thing about bang for the buck -- the M2 currently goes for sticker (and above) while it isn't at all difficult to get the 340i for 10-11% under sticker. Would've wanted to see a 340i with the so-called "track" package (adaptive suspension, variable steering, bigger brakes) tested (that's what I have :) ).

  • @einscodek2850
    @einscodek2850 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Look lets face it, the 340i is a beast with the new B58 .. 4.8S 0-60 @ high altitude come on!?!? thats awesome!
    Also these guys were tracking a version of the 340 which isn't the best track configuration being sold .. try adding track handling package and add the Michelin pilot super sports .. that'll shave a few seconds off track time..
    MSport looks much better as well as many have mentioned already
    ..and Paul was saying its not hot when compared w/ M2.. but hes opining based on track handling alone whilst the 340i can do much more (luxury/prestige, haul people and double as a race car, etc)and is more of a total package on the road than the M2
    You gotta know how to configure the top end 3-series to get the right driver.. and its hot.. pricey but it wear many hats

    Roman - you do realize the F30 came out in 2012!!!!! the 2016 is just a refresh not a new generation, stop bitching about interior design compared to Cclass and A4 that are all new cars! BTW seats, driving position, and iDrive are still way better than any of its competitors.

    • @Jjlaur11
      @Jjlaur11 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am a lifelong "BMW guy" and currently have a 2014 335 and a 2016 C450 and I am sorry to say that the F30 BMW interior isn't all that different from my 2008 E90...it feels ancient. While I believe iDrive is still better than the COMAND system in terms of ease of use, I must strongly disagree with you on the seats and driving position. The Mercedes seats are an order of magnitude better than the seats in my F30. Better leather, more adjustments and better alignment with the peddles and steering wheel (which is also WAY better than the Bimmer)! I only hope that the G20 (2018 model year 3 series I believe) is everything it is supposed to be because Audi and MB are not resting on their laurels.

    • @AgonxOC
      @AgonxOC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What, the F30 interior is miles better than the interior in the E90. It is completely different. Again the 3er is barely an entry level premium car. if you want better leather the a 5er is the next best choice. I agree that the MB is a lot more plush, but that has always been the case. The new C class is very nice feeling, but I for one prefer the F30 interior.

    Like another comment said, get the car with M-Sport package and dare I say ditch the X-Drive, and then give it another drive. I have a '13 328i Sport Line, and my has a six speed manual trans. Sure, the auto is faster, but the manual is so much more fun. I have a smile on my face every time I drive it.

    I have this car. Picked up estroil blue m-sport month ago. Had the first gen f30. this LCI is hands down much better. The 340 is a monster, steering is more direct, only issue is brakes feel more soft than my 2013 335 hybrid did. Yes interior is not like a Mercedes but having had so many bmws between myself and my family, the ergonomics and Idrive, handling, speed of cars, is way ahead of any other manufacturer. Yes it's expensive but you get what you pay for. Bmw always lies about actual horsepower and torque. The car makes closer to 320 at wheels which is about 360 on drivetrain. THATS why BMW always feel faster, they have more power than Bmw states!!

BMW's ride really well in terms of handling and performance, however, they are certainly known for their poor reliability. I'm trying to decide between the 340i and the Q50S Red Sport. They are are both incredible machines!

    It's a BMW. It's ALWAYS hot!
    The deeper submenus are mostly used once, and often when standing still, to set up the car or other systems as you want them. iDrive is considered as the best in the market. And if you order your car with every option, like this car (hence why it was so expensive), of course the number of systems that the iDrive have to manage will increase.

    Roman you nailed it on the interior. I own a 2015 335i and the new car isn't that much different, neither is the boost response despite what was said...the interior definitely lags the new A4 and the new C Class. It also has quite a lot of road/wind noise compared with the other two germans.
    You're complaining about the steering wheel and testing performance, why did you guys not get an M Sport (M Sport is not an M3) car or a car with the M Adaptive suspension? M Sport package also gets a MUCH better steering wheel. The basic X Drive suspension even in the LCI cars is too soft. iDrive is fantastic to live with day-to-day.
    BMW has its work cut out for it on the next iteration of this car. I will likely not return to the brand for my daily driver unless they get back to their roots focused on steering response, steering feel, and at least a competitive interior and road/wind noise levels which in my opinion they lack.
    Oddly, while the current 3 series even in M Sport guise is a touch soft, they do turn in nicely when driven hard, they also hang on well, lots of grip! But you give up a lot of the initial feel that the cars were famous for which is unfortunate because you can't drive at 8/10ths or more on your daily commute.

    It is easy to dis the 340i but considering the AWD and the all season tires of the tester, it performs very well. There is no other AWD sedan that comes close to this level of performance, handling, and fun to drive. The other thing is that they last. I have a 2006 330i that is still very nice to drive. 174,000 kms and no rattles or squeaks. You won't say that about a Cadillac CTS in 10 years.

    Totally agree that BMW needs to step up their interior. Not only the design but the build/material quality. In the luxury segment, BMW feels like a step below their competitors. Its not just about looking "pretty" and "elegant", its about feeling luxurious and expensive, and feeling like the company put attention to the detail. I think my biggest quirk with the interior is the cheap feeling/looking leatherette and plastics.

    BMW's standard steering wheels are always pretty crappy. Probably to push people into the M-Sport (originally just Sport) packages... the E46 4-spoke is awful, while the Sport wheel is still quite good today. As clunky as iDrive is, you really do get acquainted with it after repeated use, it's straightforwardness makes it easy to use without looking at the screen once you remember menu positions.. Nearly all the BMWs I've had here in the UK have had their traditionally somewhat spartan interior. That's something I'm guessing we've just got used to. They're always too expensive, but I think we Brit's probably balance that with our desire for a supposedly safer, though more sporting driving experience. Many, of course, think the badge makes them more socially elevated. For me personally, I would like to think we at least got leather as standard, but other than that, the other 'boy's toys' are not really important, and at my age frankly I don't place much importance on what other social climbers think of me. When I think back. Both BMW and Mercedes used to count virtually any 'customer option' as an extra and charge you for it(through the nose usually). They didn't even include a radio!.........David(UK)

    😄an m2 is so much smaller awkward for rear passengers. Get an msport with great steering wheel and better suspension Get the adaptive suspension for greater comfort with any tires and better handling in sport providing you are not on runflats. Beware of changing from run flats if XDrive. Better to go for RWD. Spec the black wheels as they come without runflats for better handling comfort and less noise. Most time you are driving so to me at least, it’s logical to place greater emphasis on how the car drives than how it looks, the drive is most important. Yes look of interior is not quite as nice as Audi or Mercedes but drive is most important and why I chose a 3 series over Merc and Audi latest offerings in 2016 BM is much more comfortable than Audi and much more enjoyable to drive than either. It still looks great and you have choice between some really ace colours. I chose Estoril Blue. Always looks great.

    @MickAv8r 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The comments about the interior are valid but also not. ;) Its style over substance. Being an owner of a '14 I was definitely having some interior envy when the new C class was launched. My mine quandary was how Benz was able to offer that interior at that price point. Once I got to see and touch one it became obvious. The Benz interior looks better than it feels. Start touching vent controls and pushing buttons and you realize that its very cheap plastic. The leather looks nice but doesnt feel nice (the BMW doesnt feel nice either and doesnt look that nice for that matter). Only the wood in the C class was impressive in both touch and feel.
    The Benz has style, the BMW has the substance.
    On a daily basis I prefer the BMW, especially if you get the M-Sport package which gets you the M steering wheel which is one of the nicest out there IMO.

    I agree with the interior, I don´t like too much. Good car but if I have to spend lot of money i have to be sure that I like all. The performance is very good and handling, and the size near perfect. I like the car but not the interior.
    This car is hot. And yes, it is too expensive but doesn´t means that is not hot. It is a cool car.

    what! the interior is simply and elegant like a BMW should be. and I-drive is hands down the best on the market. lost respect for you guys when you referred to naturally aspirated as "normally aspirated" but not even taking the time to learn how to use the system before reviewing it is ridiculous.

      It's always the same. The previous generation Mustang with the live axle and cross plane crank was brilliant and far better than any modern nonsense. Then along comes the GT350, and suddenly the old Mustang is as desirable as an STD‼️ It makes me smile.😂😂😂

    Very negative review by a car that has the best engine and transmission up today. Most important thing about a car is the drive not the cute interior or buttons to play with , if you want to play you buy A PlayStation and stay at home if you want to drive you buy the 340,simple as that.

    I agree with Paul... for the money it's not. Come on, a 3 series for 60K? Not too long ago, the 3 series was BMW's entry level. Of course this has come a long way, but at this size and amenities I think it's 5 - 7k overpriced. They made a good point: the M2 stickers below this car. Of course they aren't in the same class, but considering they sell way more 3 series than 2 series it seems like BMW is lining their collective pockets.

    Go m sport better staying better tyres and suspension and best steering wheel. 2 series is a smaller car if they are comparable then what about a 5 series a gol r or Cayman they both offer things the 3 series doesn't but it's not the same type of car.

    Interesting the 340i didn't beat out the 2016 GTI by very much. I'm guessing a little tweaking and the GTI could beat it.

    • @RizwanJaved26
      @RizwanJaved26 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to Edmunds, DSG GTI takes 6.1 seconds to 60 and 5.9 for manual. Also, this is at 1 mile above sea level. 340i is more than a full second quicker which is A LOT. I don't see how that's not "very much". GTI is a very fun car to drive though because of how light it is.

    Don’t have m sport or a 6 turbo engine? It’s unwanted. It’s trash.

  • @MrKeyboardCommando
    @MrKeyboardCommando 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This car is faster round the track than the Hellcat, but then again, most cars are. However, the 0-60mph times are near enough identical. This car has 332hp and the Hellcat has 707hp. So, I'll ask again, what the bloody hell are those supposed extra 375hp doing⁉️ If the Hellcat has got all this power, why's it so damned slow⁉️🤔🤔🤔

    • @97I30T
      @97I30T 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hellcat can't put the power down. 707hp is too much for the rear tires to handle.
