    I just watched this 6 minute video after hitting too many fat iron shots on my simulator. I practiced Adam's drill for 5 minutes and theN quickly did the drill ahead of each shot. I hit 20 balls and did not have a single fat shot. My distance on my 8 iron which has always been about 135 avgerage increased to 145 for the post video 20 shots. I am going to keep this drill in my regular practice. It really worked for me.

    The "narrow downswing" works like a MIRACLE !! I always stretched my arm on the backswing and kept it wide and somewhat laid back on the downswing - and struggled hitting ball-first with longer clubs. This one tip changed everything for me - - literally instantly! Easy to implement and incredible results. I have watched many videos but don't recall ever hearing "narrower down". I see that the video is 7 years old. Wish I had seen it then!

    This drill helped more than I could express. My personal experience is that the stick parallel to the shaft gives a 3D visual reference, as opposed to a 2D reference that one might get by laying the stick on the ground to mark the center of the stance. It really helped my brain to map the correct movement. Years of spotty contact, then this concept flipped the switch for me. And now I feel I can get a crisp strike with any club from any lie. Combined with a good sequence and proper leverage, it feels like cheating. Thanks, Adam!

    was down at the range yesterday and today, started fatting those balls, I'll try this drill later on this week, refering to getting out of the bunker with the weaker grip (another video) well, that worked out well yesterday, unfortunately not so high, but no thin shots out of the bunker :-)

    This one video is what all beginners need to look at. Took me years to figure this out and yet I lose it from time to time. This video really simplifies the way to hit pure shots. The way the pros cover the ball is a challenge to accept and build into the swing for me. Thank you. Side note: the grounds keepers will love you for this.😀

    These are great videos for the beginner golfers. Thank you for those meticulous insides of each drill. Just a question. What is the most effective way to control mi driver. How to have an accurate aim, or direction. What part of the golf to use to hit it with, left, center, or right side of the golf head. Thank you so much for your videos.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sergio,
      Thanks, glad you like the videos. Controlling the driver isn’t easy, certainly I wish I was better in that department. It’s an unforgiving club, but I’d say that generally sound technical habits, and plenty of practice are the keys.

    Low point : just inside lead shoulder. On plane motion reduces chance of fat shot. Never throw the club from the wrist. Sustain lag pressure all the way through the line of sight. The narrowness is a function of sustained lag pressure. Full hip turn allows for enough trail arm to avoid throwing and hence keeps the lead wrist slightly arched through impact. Once again your videos are excellent and truly helpful to golfdom. Cheers F

    Extremely helpful video. Actions and words don’t always match. Club at bottom of swing Sergio and you shoulder going up, which of course was not mentioned. Average golfers will work hard to hit that impact position and not have the same swing path: shoulder still working down!

      Glad you found the video helpful. They are Callaway irons, mid game improvement models from a couple of years ago. I like to practice with my 8 iron, so it gets a little worn, and with all the humidity in south Florida they get that look (I like it too).

    Got to say Sergio Garcia has nice easy moment. Doesn't look stiff anywhere. Really nice video guide on that one. Is there a way of hitting forward of the ball, but not putting holes in the green. I am worried that when I get to the golf course I will be digging up the green, and that is something I want to avoid.

    Not to discredit anything in this video, it's all 100% point on accurate, but for me personally if I keep my weight on my toes and lean forward and into it I get fat, if I lean back with weight on heels I hit it fine, it's kind of weird how far I can lean back and still make great contact, If your constantly leaning forward, you have to apex past the ball, you have to, if you lean back it's not so critical, hope this helps someone

  • @Robert-ts2ef

    Adam, at impact, should there be a slight backward side bend, even though Tommy Fleetwood has a massive side bend at impact? Thanks

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert,
      It depends on the players overall swing style, as well as the club they are hitting. All great players would have more tilt away from target with a driver than they would with a 9 iron. Typically upright swingers (Couples, for example) have more tilt in order to shallow out the hot.
      Hope this helps.

    what adjustments would I make for avoiding fat shots with less lofted irons

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same principles apply really. Often we try to 'help' get the ball in the air with less lofted clubs. Try to hit some lower more driving shots (without moving ball position back) and see if that helps.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no one way, but generally the hips would move towards the target first. There would be some hip rotation as this happened, but mostly after lead hip is over lead foot

    • @Scratchgolfacademy

      Not sure what the numbers are, but clearly he finds a great balance of lag and the body motion to go with it.

    Fat shot creeps into my game maybe once per round, so 1/75 chance of hitting it fat. (And when I do the ball still gets out there a ways) I always think about keeping my weight over the ball. Is that not the right mindset? Cause when I hit it fat, I feel like I left weight on my back leg…
