    I am a gel method lover...I use a fine grit emery board on my drill bit when I want to file them down and it only takes about a minute.. I feel like dip done with gel is a bit more flexible and not as rigid as when done with dip liquids..So if I bump my hand on a wall or hit myself, the gel dipped nails will not break or chip as easily as they do with dip liquids. And it's great for beginners because it gives you time to clean around the edges since it does not harden till cured.

    This is so helpful. I am exclusively gel for certain dip powders (smaller independent companies whose product is so finely milled) but always use gel top coat. The dip base I use is also quite thin and patting down in btwn layers has helped. I also use a dense toothbrush to brush away after cuticle clean up to reduce bulk (have builder gel extensions and use peel base). Funnily enough, I also tend to use an e-file more with a certain dip powder/gel combo than others, so I was not surprised by the amount of filing you needed to do. It’s all trial and error, so very thankful that you took the time to demo all methods so we could make an informed decision on what is best for us. 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿

    This video was an absolute game changer. The first time I tried the dip with gel method it took me 4 hrs, my nails were lumpy, my top coat peeled off, and they only lasted a week before they popped off. So glad I found this video and gave it another try.
    Using the cupcake liners and pouring over was 10x easier for the dip with gel method. I didn't have to worry about my gel clumping from dipping into the container. I would flash cure each nail for 10 seconds (which allowed time to still clean cuticle area if I missed something) and then I would fully cure all four nails at the same time. It took me 2 hours for this set but I did 2 colors on my ring and middle nails and also applied gold flakes at the middle where the 2 colors met. I'm sure if I just used solid colors it would only take 45mins to an hour.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I'm so happy to play around with more of my dip powders now using this technique. I'm a gel girl and this has opened a whole new world of possibilities for me! ☺💅🏾☺

      Rebecca, when you are done dipping (and usually 2 “dips” is enough!) try to basecoat, cure then topcoat (and if “no wipe” just move along but if you have that sticky layer, wipe with alcohol) then file and buff! When done, basecoat, cure and topcoat again! Thin layers and you are done!🥰 I get “dip flu” HORRIBLE!

    I'm almost exclusively a gel method girl and it surprises me that you had to file so much. I honestly never have to do more than take a board file to sharpen my shape and buff the rest. I never use my e-file except to remove. But I tap my powders down before I cure, so maybe that's the difference? I've never tried Double Dip liquids, but they are on my list to purchase and review. I have found that when I dip straight on my natural nail it can feel a little bit on the bendy side but I always have a builder gel base on now so I don't get that feeling anymore. I will also use clear builder gel over my medium to chunky glitters. I like how it self levels so there's still very little buffing needed. For me at least. It's interesting to see other people experiences. Thanks for posting this!

    I’ve tried the gel method twice and I was satisfied with the results, although I did have some peeling on this last one. My problem is with the removal. I simply cannot get it to soak off with acetone. I end up soaking & scraping for about 1 1/2 hours and damaging my nails in the process. I’ve never had that problem with regular dip liquids. I do not use a peel base because I want to get about 2-3 weeks out of a mani. I get really bad dip flu with regular dip liquids but removal of the gel and dip powder pretty much has me defeated. Any tips or suggestions?

    • @KatesNailKorner
      @KatesNailKorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ugh! I feared this would be the issue with soaking off the gel method. It seems like it would be stubborn. If you have an efile I would use a coarse grit bit to remove as much bulk as possible before soaking off. Also, depending on your soaking method, if you aren’t using the method with warm water to heat up the acetone a bit... that may help speed things up also. Let me know if you need a link to a video on that method as I have not shown it here before.
