I have to deal with a pretty solid tree canopy myself and, while the Halo 3 works, it can be sluggish at times. I would have recommended the SpotOn in your case because of Forest Mode, which handles signal better through a heavy tree canopy. Test them out as soon as you can but Halo does have a 60-day return guarantee policy if the trees are just too much for the collars.
