    The problem I have with the halo is if your somewhere there is no phone service like in the mountains you can’t start the app. No app no tracking! So if your dog runs off there’s no way to track him. I’ve sent an email telling them if you could start the app with just Bluetooth you could set fences or see where he is but they didn’t get what I was talking about. GPS works anywhere but not on their app.

      Yes, that's an issue with the Halo 3 and one they haven't addressed considering their primary rival, SpotOn, has an off-grid mode that works exactly the way you described. You can only build one virtual fence with it but that's a lot better than nothing at all!

    I had the Halo 3 GPS and returned it after two weeks. Would never work correctly, support is terrible. Spend the mony and get a SpotOn works great.

      I’m sorry to hear that! I haven’t had the same issues with Halo’s customer service but you’re right, SpotOn is an excellent alternative as well.

    I've had Halo for 2 years. It's great when it works, but my dog has received dozens (if not over a hundred) incorrect feedbacks, including emergency warnings when inside the fence. I've addressed the problem with Halo staff, and even had their engineers look at the collar's performance. I've been monitoring the GPS levels, recalibrating when needed, and even with appropriate signal the incorrect feedback persists. Beacons have solved the problem of incorrect feedback indoors, but outdoors the incorrect feedback persists. And nobody (and I mean nobody!) at the company seems capable of fixing the problem. I live on 1 acre and my dog knows quite well the boundaries, so I've using mostly the whistle as a recall tool. But I can't the virtual fence where he doesn't know the limits (like taking the fence to the beach, parks or friends' homes). I'm deeply disappointed with this glitch.

      I’m sorry to hear that! Which Halo collar do you have? When I tested the Halo 2+ against the Halo 3, I noticed that the 2+ was not as accurate. It was off by enough that the Halo 3 was getting a correction while the 2+ was not, and I was holding both in the same hand. I know the 2+ received the AI Precision GPS update that the Halo 3 already has but it doesn’t look to me like the previous versions are getting the latest updates. If they are, Halo isn’t listing them. support.halocollar.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500004830041-Firmware-Update-Release-Notes

      @@WorldAnimalFdn I have a Halo 2+,. The firmware was updated just yesterday to 1.19.02, version. Today it seemed to be pinging my dog at the correct locations, but it has always been inconsistent, so I can't say if it has improved. I'm kinda on the fence now (no pun intended). In about 2 months I'll be bringing home a new puppy, and I honestly don't know if I should buy him a Halo 3 or switch both dogs to something else entirely. Halo is fantastic when it works, but when the dog's safety is on the line, reliability is a must. And so far Halo has been unreliable.

    Is the collar adjustable to a point? I have a great dane pup, over 20lbs, but will keep getting bigger. He needs this collar NOW for the exercise, but Caan I adjust it a little as he grows?

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Halo 3 uses a perfect fit system, and will be more than enough to grow with your dog, even a Great Dane. The problem is, using the perfect fit system requires you to size the collar on your dog, then cut off the excess, and use a press to connect a new end cap on the cut portion. Obviously, you don’t want to cut too much excess if your dog is going to grow a lot. You’ll have to use your best judgement and cut only what you need, leaving enough collar to bridge the gap from pup to adult.

    Hi, I have the money to buy either of the 3 collars including the petsafe gps collar , just trying I decide which is best for 3 acres. Also how often do you have to walk and shake the collar for recalibration ? Thnx

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Petsafe GPS collar won't cover three acres (only 3/4-acre) and it doesn't allow you to create your own fence line. It only creates a sort of bubble, a circular range with the center being the center of your yard, ideally. If your three acres are fairly wide open, I would opt for the Halo 3, unless you're adverse to a small subscription per month. For heavy tree cover, the SpotOn edges out the Halo 3 slightly, in my opinion. Both the Halo 3 and the SpotOn are both more than capable of covering three acres and you can set them up however you want. As far as calibration, the GPS on the Halo updates once per second, so I give it a quick little shake every three seconds or so. I would stick with between three and 5 seconds for calibration on either, while making your way throughout your yard at a casual stroll.

      @@WorldAnimalFdn ok I understand thank you . Was also confused but I think you misunderstood the petsafe collar I was referring to . It’s the 600$ gps collar that says for properly larger than 3/4 acre and also that you can customize a fence . Idk either way I think I’m going with halo as property is wide open for the most part . Thanks again

      What is a beacon?

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@oscarp3745 A Halo Beacon is a Bluetooth-enabled device designed to work with your dog’s Halo Collar to indicate boundaries or safe zones. It comes in three models: Indoor (for use in environments shielded from weather), Outdoor (versatile for any location), and USB (requiring an outlet). These beacons offer two main functions: "Keep Away" and "Ignore Fences". "Keep Away" is to prevent your dog from entering specific areas by giving a feedback prompt when they approach, effectively acting like an invisible boundary. "Ignore Fences" allows for a portable safe zone, ensuring your dog doesn't receive boundary alerts within its range, useful for walks or drives. Customizable via the Halo app, beacons can have their function, name, and detection radius adjusted, providing flexibility in managing your dog's movement and safety.

    I enjoy walking in the woods with my dog but he lives to chase deer. If theres a deer i uave no control and he doesnt come back for about an hour when hes exhausted.. is it possible to set up a movibg fence where they stay within a close distance of me while walking?

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can't set up a moving fence with either the SpotOn or the Halo. However, you can set up a fence in an area where you walk. The SpotOn covers over a thousand acres and, the Halo 3 collar virtual fences are capable of covering far more. SpotOn will allow you more freedom drawing out your fence, and you can even walk your fence perimeter out. The Halo is a little blockier to work with, but its location tracking is better with the universal cell coverage. One interesting feature on the Halo that might really help you out, is the natural feedback. Once your dog is outside the perimeter, it will only get customized encouragement from the collar when the dog is facing the right direction and heading home. Your dog will only get negative feedback if it continues in the wrong direction.

      Well, I have both the SpotOn and Halo 3. Which one you want to go with depends on a few factors. For instance, I have a large tree canopy covering my back yard. It doesn't render the Halo 3 GPS inaccurate but it does make it difficult for the collar to tell when Ares is walking through the backdoor. I use the Halo beacon to deal with that issue since it cuts his collar off when he walks in. Its kind of an end around. The SpotOn has Forest Mode, which improves the GPS signal through thick tree cover.
      The Halo 3 allows you to build an invisible fence that covers 1,200 square miles with solid accuracy, outside of a little drifting from time to time. According to SpotOn, you can create a fence that covers 1,000 acres. However, you can create many more fences with the SpotOn than the Halo 3. The other factor is the subscription model. You can't do anything with the Halo 3 without subscribing to at least their lower tier plan. But it does have universal cell coverage (for location and tracking) in case your dog escapes the boundary and is lost. THe SpotOn doesn't require a subscription and does everything for free, except tracking. You can create fences, take advantage of Forest Mode, and do anything you can do with the Halo 3 collar. However, if your dog is lost, you can't track it with the SpotOn collar without a subscription.
      Personally, I like the Halo 3 just fine. The subscription is irritating but at least it's cheap. Its fairly accurate and it works well with the beacons, one of which comes with the collar. I also like the cellular coverage since I'm constantly on the move outside, either traveling or disc golfing. If Ares ever gets loose, I have an instant way to find him on my phone.

      @@WorldAnimalFdn I can't imagine why anyone would need a fence that covers 1200 square MILES. --- 🤔😳

      Hi  @kathleenr4047 ,
      Absolutely tickled by your take on our Halo Fence dimensions! 😄 Imagining a fence that spans 1,200 square miles does sound more like a setup for a blockbuster movie where the dogs are the stars of their own vast kingdom!
      Here's the scoop: that staggering number is meant to showcase the Halo system's maximum capabilities, much like the top speed on a sports car's speedometer. It's not that we expect anyone to need a fence quite that large, but it's nice to know it could theoretically protect an entire wildlife reserve or a ranch the size of a small nation if needed.
      For the everyday dog owner, their Halo Fence will typically embrace a cozy backyard or a safe perimeter around their property, ensuring their beloved pets stay safe while roaming freely within their personalized boundaries. And yes, if you're feeling adventurous or just want to see what all the fuss is about, you can definitely get a Halo Collar for your canine companion and test out your own 'paw-sonalized' space. Who knows, it might just be the 'purr-fect' fit! 😃👍

    Here's a crazy question. I want to train my prey driven dog to leave my cat alone. Could I use the beacon on the cat to train and condition him to leave her alone?

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You know, I’ve never tried anything like that but it just might work! I use my beacon to deactivate the collars when my dogs come in the sliding glass door because the window is large enough that there’s no change in the GPS signal strength, which tricks the Halo into thinking my dogs are not quite inside yet. It works pretty quick once they enter the sphere and by the time they are through it, the GPS signal is dropping and the Halo recognizes they are in the house. I’ve tested it as a deterrent and it works pretty well though, and it should easily fit on a collar for your cat. You’ll have to let me know how well it works if you decide to give it a try!
      and Also, you can try to put the beacon in places commonly used by your cat to see if it helps prevent your dog from going there.

    You need to learn how “shocking” is supposed to be used. It is not negative reinforcement. It is not supposed to be felt. It is supposed to be a “hearing aid” not a punishment

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, I’m not at liberty to tell anyone how, where, when, or why to train their dogs. When I was a younger man, I attempted to use a static collar correction device on my dog. It did very well for its intended purpose and I used it only as directed. I was in the Marines and it was important to me that my dog behaved on base. The unfortunate side effect was that my Doberman (Sensei was his name), would projectile urinate and run across the house anytime anyone’s voice rose above normal conversational level.
      I never used static correction again. I’m not sure what you know about static correction, but I was a 5811 MP at the time, which is why I had the bright idea of using static correction, after observing some of our K-9 units on base. My dad is also retired FHP and two of our Rottweilers ended up being K-9 units in the Florida Keys and Miami. I’m well aware of their function and can assure you, static correction is not a “hearing” aid of any kind.
      There’s a sort of science behind it known as operative conditioning. It works. Sometimes. On many other occasions, as studies have shown, it creates an unnecessary and often permanent anxiety factor. Some are worse than others. I encourage you to read the more recent scientific literature on the subject. I’m not in a position to tell anyone what to do, but if aberrant behavior versus correct behavior is reliant on a painfully repetitive flip of the coin, I’ll stick with other measures in the best interests of my Dobermans.

    I want everyone to know this product is trash. If your dog can put up with mild buzzing, mild beeping and a very small static shock they will go straight through the "fence". They make their money by overcharging and hoping two thirds won't bother with the return process.
