If anyone asks "WhY DiDn'T sHe JuSt rUn AwAy!?" They have obviously had a very cushy, cozy life. Trauma does absolutely HELLISH things to a person's brain.
Tbh I wish she had've early on but that's only because I could feel the character's pain of being in a unhappy relationship
Not having trauma and having a cushy, cozy life are two different things. People can have a cushy life and have trauma or visa versa. Other people just might be really ill informed or ignorant to the fact that trauma does in fact do some weird stuff in people’s brains. I’m not disagreeing, but still, you can’t accurately group people like that.
If people say that I think they may just be ill informed or maybe they just haven't experienced trauma, no need to put them down for living life trauma free?🤷🏾♀️

@@manillagrape804 i don’t really think it’s putting someone down for not having gone through trauma, but rather an expression of jealousy and resentment that that isn’t your life. it’s not personal, it’s just hard to deal with the fact that other people can go through life with only relatively minor bumps in the road. of course, you wouldn’t want someone else to go through what you’ve been through, you just wish that you hadn’t have to go through it either. i hope this makes sense.

Wtf the therapist told the husband??! That’s ILLEGAL! Omg that literally makes me so angry my mom is a therapist and I go to therapy as well so I know about all that shit omg that makes me so angry 😂
I also go to a therapist, and this lady just seems unqualified for her job in general.
I know that if I told my therapist something like that, she wouldn't just leave it alone. Her job is to help me with my issues, and if I tell her something about my past that's affecting me now, then she should say something about it! Even if I don't want to hear it, because that's her job! She wouldn't just end the session just because it's a difficult topic to broach, because that's the whole point of why I'm here! That's the whole point of her job! To have someone help me broach the difficulties in my life and my mental illness!
And yes, She also shouldn't have told the husband because that's against doctor/ patient confidentiality! I can tell my therapist something about my mom and feel secure knowing she won't immediately just blab what I said to my mom, because therapists aren't supposed to give out that kind of information, unless the patient explicitly says so!
Gosh, she's a terrible therapist. She's definitely not the worst, but she's still not good at her job.

I feel like that could discourage some people from getting the help they need because they're afraid they might get a therapist that won't actually listen to them.
And I won't deny that some therapists out there are just plain bad at their job, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try! Especially if you really need it!
There are far too many people out there with some serious mental health issues that don't go to therapists either because they think they don't need it or because they're afraid they'll get a bad therapist.
It's sad.

Therapists are required to tell someone if you are a danger to yourself or others. Swallowing some the shit she did could literally kill her.
I have an eating disorder and this movie looks so realistic. The way she shrugs it off as nothing is so accurate. People being mad at her for it is also extremely accurate. This movie looks amazing.

I mean school counsellors are the same. If you tell them that your issues are in any way related to your parents or that they’ve abused you they won’t call cps. They’ll talk to your parents. My friend was abused by her dad. Told the counsellor. Counsellor spoke to her dad and her dad almost kicked her out of the house. Destroyed any little piece of relationship they had left. Talked to the school counsellor about how my family was divorcing and how I didn’t feel comfortable around my parents etc. she talked to them. Parents were hurt and said that the fact that I said that hurt their feelings and they got mad at me.

I actually had pica a few years back! I was severely iron deficient and started eating cornstarch, charcoal, chalk, paper, and crayons. Thankfully I'm better now, but it's cool to see it represented in a form of media other than My Strange Addiction.

I really liked the ending and the fact that Haley was pregnant but still played it so well and communicated so much of the feeling of relief. Stunning performance, she's an amazing actress.
Swallow was... such a masterpiece, the ending gave me a sense of “life goes on” kind of theme and it just fit so well. I loved it so much.

This is a fantastic window into the nature of addiction. It's never about the object of the addiction, it's about the familiarity, the ritual and the control.
Well it's called pica and I had it ( ate chalk ) ....it's gross and thankfully I was lucky enough to get medical care...it was due to my iron deficiency and it went away when I got a blood transfusion....and god listening to lme and Chris stuckman gave me ptsd

I have a feeling of Compassionate for the girl when I was watching this movie. Everyone in the movie always pretend to be nice with her and then let her down, she is such a pure character that believe them every times. They disrespect her feelings and act like she doesn't exist (even her mom) every times she shows up. that is the reason why her illness becomes worst and worst.
I've been scared to watch this. But this helps so thank you. I've heard a ton of good stuff about it.

Reminds me of a display I saw at a horror/gore/medical museum that had a women's stomach contents on display who died from pica. There were hundreds of items including nails, needles, clothespins etc.

All through elementary school I used to have an obsession with eating erasers off of the ends of pencils. Like, I would eat all of the eraser and when I was done with it, I would sometimes eat the metal casing that goes around the end to hold the erase in place. Then I’d just chew on the end of the wooden pencil eating off the paint and wood. It wasn’t ever conscious, just something that I... did. It randomly stopped before I went into middle school. I never thought of it as an eating disorder until I saw this movie, and while it’s certainly not the most extreme case of something like pica, it makes me realize that there was probably a reason behind it and that I wasn’t just that weird pencil-eating kid. Even occasionally nowadays I’ll find myself biting an eraser, but I typically stop myself quickly and I think it has to do with when I’m stressed or bored.
That sounds more like an adhd/anxiety coping method than pica to me. The focus was more on the chewing, the swallowing probably just came by reflex.

This was such a brilliant movie. Although it's a completely different story, it kind of gave me the same creepy uneasy vibes I had with Rosemary's Baby.

I just watched this movie few days ago. I really liked it, it was well written and acted. I didn't expect it to be this good and quite emotional. Powerful ending too.

I just watched the movie about 20 mins ago. While watching it, it was a little bit hard for me to catch everything that Hunter was saying since she was always speaking in a low and soft spoken tone of voice, so I actually didn’t even know that she had to ask permission to decorate the house a little bit and that she was only being used as a “vessel” for the family. I mean I started to realize like halfway through the movie that the husband was a piece of 💩 but just... wOw... I didn’t realize until the end that he only cared about having an offspring. Anyways, I’m really glad that Hunter was able to escape from the entire family’s hold on her, and I hope that she found someone who genuinely cares about her.

Thumb tacks can rip up the inside of the stomach, but the human body is well adapted to emergency repairs in a way, in case you do get hurt from something, and stomach acid can severely damage a tack, so yeah it can do lots of severe damage but isnt as likely to kill as you think.
there are many things that doctors have removed from a human's digestive tracks including many sharp objects. i also rmb a story about a kid eating magnets which u can maybe guess what happened inside his body. i can't list the source but u can google it.

I got this reccomend to me and didn't think much of it. Then I got this in my TH-cam reccomend and decided to watch the film to get the full experience. It's by far one of my favorite movies just because of how well everything is put together, and the story is super interesting.
I enjoyed this film. The accentuated sound effects made me both queasy and fascinated at the same time. Haley Bennett did an amazing job portraying the character Hunter.
i loved this film too. with someone who has had pica, but never ate anything but ice, it was horrifying to see how it can spiral and get so dangerous

So so glad I went and watched the movie before finishing this because dude it made me scared, it made me nervous it made me cry it made me move through the motions. It was beautifully made.

I watched it last week and i suffer from pica so it was really interesting to watch someone else go through it in a movie. Top notch
Can someone explain the coworker who craved physical touch. Like it was random but I know there was a reason for that
I know you asked this question a long time ago but, I just watched the movie and wanted to give you a delayed response. There were a few different reasons that scene/character existed and it was so quick, it’s really easy to miss.
1st off, it was to show how her husband runs around with his coworker “friends” who are disreputable and show zero respect for fidelity. The 2nd reason was to display that Hunter was actually craving physical touch as well because she laid her head on his shoulder and released a contented sigh, leading the audience to believe she herself was feeling neglected from true comfort by her husband. And the 3rd reason was later displayed at her husband’s bday party when she witnessed him delivering the exact same bs line while she was left alone outside after her husband scolded her. She realized she was duped by the coworker and it further triggered her self harm, ie, Pica relapse.
I think it was meant to be pervy.

The trailers give me flashbacks to when I worked in a treatment facility with teenage girls
