Listen to ware yami to te. A slower progressive ballad from them. The vocalist is a lot more melodic in that one. Their live from 16-17 shows just how high he can go and be so emotional

Kyo is honestly probably one of my favorite vocalists, full stop. But also hilarious that you kept bringing up the Korn comparison because I swear they both went through an adidas tracksuit phase lmao

So interesting factoid: toshiya got heavy influence from Fieldy and Chi Cheng after Family Values '06 and touring with them =^_^=

Kyo still wears Adidas all the time. It’s kind of a staple so far of his look in his new band Petit which calls back to that nu-metal era a lot

Dir en Grey tends to change how the song is played in many concerts. It kind of depends on how Kyo is feeling that day. I've heard this one time in concert and almost didn't recognize it at first because they had totally changed the song. You never know what you'll get concert to concert in terms of style.

Macabre Live Tabula Rasa 2013 is a must, also Saku PV (HD). Both are great and by the way you should watch OBSCURE [PV] [SUB] [HD] on your own time it is pretty graphic.

Obligatory mention that Dir en grey has been active since like 97 or 99 and according to Wikipedia, Kyo is 44 years old. Those vocal cords are still killing it after years and years of avant-garde screaming and abuse.

Dir en grey are a musical chameleon. They've never had a lineup change, ever since their inception in 1996, yet every release sounds very different from the previous.
I'd recommend you go through their discography chronologically and check out one or two songs per album.
On spotify they recently released their entire back catalog and a 3 disc greatest hits / portfolio album called "Vestige of Scratches", which contains material from throughout their career, including several rare B-sides. It's a great place to start if you want to get into Dir En Grey.
Personally, I like their older material best (anything Uroboros era and earlier), especially the 2001 album MACABRE. That album is full of masterpieces. "Wake", "Myaku", "Macabre", and "Zakuro" just to name a few.
That and the 2002 album KISOU are my personal favourites.
But since their catalog is so diverse, there's something in there for everyone. :)

    • @bluesummerstaylor3987

@@dicodec Yes~ Absolutely Diabolos. It's likely perfect because it is a ballad like Vinushka but with way more of their chaotic and heavy structure like in Obscure, yet with the technical Vishnuka'esque complexity and versatility. Being from more metal backgrounds, you would probably enjoy that whole album: Dum Spiro Spero is a masterpiece.
There's normally two camps of Dir en Grey fans - The visual kei era ones who find their evolving sound into more Nu Metal / Heavy / Progressive sound as some sell out attempt to appeal to larger audience, and those who aren't inept weaboos and actually appreciate their growth. So while Dum Spiro Spero may not be for those of the former, you guys seem at home with the latter, so yeah, Diabolos is a definite. Haha.

Fucking love these guys. Kyo is without a doubt one of the most talented vocalists I've ever seen honestly, and he does actually get compared to Mike Patton sometimes.
I actually also have a suggestion for another band to check out if you like, Seikima-II from Japan. Their fictional backstory is that they're Demons from another dimension here to spread the word of Satan through heavy metal, with names such as His Excellency Demon Kakka, Doctor Xenon Ishikawa, and Crown Prince of Hell Damian Hamada.
There's a performance I think would be a good one to react to in which all 9 members perform their song Jack the Ripper at a reunion show, they're all really talented and it's a great song.

  • @Rossy__

God, where to even begin with Dir En Grey? Their style has changed over the 20 or so years of the band's existence, that it's impossible for me to point to one song and say, "This is Dir En Grey."
Their style ranges from something as peaceful sounding as "Ain't Afraid to Die" to something as hardcore as "The Deeper Vileness", and even more hardcore than that.
Just running through their discography real quick, some personal favorites include:
    * "Mazohyst of Decadence" (slow, depressing tone [makes sense given the topic of the song])
    * "Jessica" (much more lighthearted and pop-y)
    * "Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi" (soft, heavily emotional)
    * "Ranunculus" (bass-heavy and vocally harmonic)
But to be completely honest, I enjoy their entire discography; there isn't a song of theirs that I don't enjoy in some fashion.

    Hi guys.
You haven't reacted to any dir en grey again after this song ! I know you get tons of requests daily . I understand this .
I just want to say obscure isn't the best dir en grey song and it was the wrong song to react to . I don't understand why people request it on every channel ! It's one of their oldest. I hope you are not disappointed after reacting to this song.
I'd like to see you react to more of them because I enjoy your reaction videos. I will be happy to see you reacting to macabre by them.

Dicodec They were a British band from Leeds. Not 100% sure about the following but I think they were active from 2011 till 2013 before disbanding as they couldn’t make a living from the music. Though they then later changed their name to Brunel and made more music for a while under that name. Looks like the last activity on their FB page was in 2018. But yeah basically I would be surprised if you’ve heard of them 😂 I think the only reason I have is because I used to have a friend from Leeds who I think did a warmup gig for them or something.

Dudes, while the live sounds nice, the original video is better. 😁 Kinda in the dark side. This band is known for not having boundaries with their music, videos, never the less the lyrics and all because of Kyo, which is the singer and the one that writes all the lyrics.
Another selection of them is, the world of Mercy.
