    At 6:10, one player asks the guy he's fighting "which shoulder?" He knew his opponent had a shoulder injury and wanted to make sure he did not punch him there.

    • @JiihaaS
      @JiihaaS หลายเดือนก่อน

      Really? I thought he was just trying to find the stance there, like which shoulder are they gonna put against the opponent.

      @JPMadden หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JiihaaS I've heard others express the same interpretation. It's true that if they were bodychecking, they might intentionally hit the injury. But it seems unlikely to ask where the injury is and then be given an honest answer so you can hurt him more.

      December 23, 1979. The Bruins players were fined $500, the maximum allowed fine then (it's only $5000 today). My favorite part is the legendary Bruins play-by-play announcer Fred Cusick saying something like "you hate to see this sort of thing happen, it doesn't look good for the sport of hockey." It was only possible because that rink and some others had glass about only 3 feet high, while today it's 8 feet high.

    what you have to understand about the hockey culture is that back in the days, almost every team had a goon or maybe 2 in their roster and most of the time the goons where not good players and didn't even skate well enough to play in the NHL so for them to stay in the NHL and have a good salary was to fight so thats why you see a lot of respect when a player accept to fight a goon. at 6:02 of yout video you see a fight with Brandon Prust and the guy miced up is Zack Rinaldo, those two had lots of fights against each other but that fight in particular, Prust was comming back to the game after a brocken shoulder injury and he didn't even had to accep the fight and you can hear Rinaldo on the mic asking Prust ''Wich Shoulder'' to make sure to not make the injury worst and thats respect! Now when you see a brawl explode, thats after an illegal hit, specially if it's a head shot

      Most of the players now days were at one point in time the best guy on their team when they were younger, but as they get older and move up from Juniors to minors to NHL, they are no longer the star of the team, and if they want to stay in the league, they have adjust their role to a more physical one.

    Youngblood starring Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves in his first movie as a goalie. Rob's character is a sniper who gets slapped around a lot by bigger players so Patrick's character teaches him how to fight back. It's sort of like Rocky on ice.
    Fun Fact: Keanu was a goalie irl and was going to enter the NHL draft after he met all the elegibility requirements but decided to become an actor during the filming of this movie. Is there nothing Keanu can't do?

    There's a code. It exists at all levels.
    1. Don't hit a man when he's down.
    2. If someone asks you to go. You go.
    3. If you hit a player dirty, or a smaller/star/skill player really hard, expect to answer for it.
    4. Fight your own battles.
    It stops players from taking runs at one another and ends beefs between teams before they get ugly. It should never be removed from the game. The players that fill this role are usually very respected on the ice.

    • @chrisdobbs9155
      @chrisdobbs9155 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At least it used to, nowadays you'll see people get jumped for clean, legal open ice hits.

    • @Matthew-bx5yf
      @Matthew-bx5yf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisdobbs9155 That was always the case. You always responded to a big hit, clean or otherwise, especially if it was on a skill guy or a guy who was vulnerable. You don't want the other team to think they can run guys (even legally) with impunity. That creates open season on your smaller guys. The response was never reserved only for dirty hits. It was just -especially- for dirty hits. The message to the other team is think twice before you lay someone out (even cleanly) because someone might come for you. That's the job.

    We - non-contact - would have fights (myself included) almost every other game. So the discipline of the NHL player is insane.

    Unfortunately the enforcer role has been almost eliminated from the game. But back in the 70's-90's the enforcers were there to protect a teams star players from harm, everyone of them knew their role on the team and had respect for the opposing teams enforcer. On the ice it was all business but after the game the home teams enforcer might buy the guy he fought a steak dinner. Hockey players are a class act and very approachable for autographs

    Hey man I competed in the 2016 Beijing invitational hockey tournament. I was on 1 out of 2 Canadian teams asked to attend. I just wanted to shed some light on the sport a bit. Hockey is a "mans" sport meaning above all you must have class and respect the opponent. Fighting is a great way to motivate your teammates,resolve frustration on the ice and also to demoralize the other team. The fraise "u wanna go" is used to initiate a fair fight. If 1 player drops the gloves and the opposing player skates away, player 1 will be given a 5 minute penalty. If both players drop the gloves both players receive a 5 minute penalty or kicked out of the remaining game (depending on league). This insures there are no blind side fights(being jumped or hit from behind). Another MASSIVE RULE is once 1 player hits the ice the fight ends and is broken up safely with assistance of the refs. Sharp skates,ice,fists and emotions don't mix well so these are the basic rules:) hope it helped

    As a 55 year old canadian, I literally grew up playing hockey, played competitive level, love the game, and enjoy hockey reactions. However for those who might not realize when watching, the vast majority of the punches do nothing. The amount of protective gear these players wear from the neck down render any punch from the shoulders down basically ineffectual. That leaves from the neck up. So unless you get the other guy's helmet off (which leads him open to death by concussion if you get a knockout punch while he's helmetless and drops like a stone head first onto the rock hard ice) then your basically just ripping your knuckles open on the solid molded plastic of the helmet. It does make for excitement though.
