      Sorry to bother you again but I’m in another dilemma, I’ve been thinking on upgrading to davinci resolve 17 from filmforth but I realized my laptop is not powerful enough, I don’t have money for other options either. So do you know some editing softwares that are more advanced than filmforth that are free and won’t melt my laptop? Thanks if you have the answer!

      Could you speak more about specifically growing an educational channel on TH-cam, please. I do find that with educational channels it doesn’t quite work the same as with entertainment channels. I’d be very grateful if you could shed some light on this too.

    Nah... just use OBS, make each audio channel seperate (so you can edit it afterwards) and then record in 3840x1080 with the camera on the left and screen recording on the right. Then, you can layer each of them when you're editing and it allows for fine-tuning so you can get it exactly how you want it.

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference is quality, functionality and ease of use. With Camtasia you can record both in 4K and export in 4K without quality loss instead of having to hack it together. You can edit directly in Camtasia instead of having to export into other software and as a bonus of that, you can add curser effects, zoom in/out (within reason) without quality loss, process your audio, etc. It’s not a remotely close comparison.

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not that at all. I want people to be able to easily make high quality content. OBS doesn’t have the options Camtasia does. I have videos on OBS too, it’s a great tool but it pales in comparison to what you can do with Camtasia.

    @Nick Nimmin hey when you do your standup shots, are you using a lapel mic? Any suggestions for one that I can use with an iPhone? I use voicemeter byt its a pain to move my Yeti mic all the time. Just curious if you use a different mic for different shots. I can use the Lapel mic into my PC to still use voicemeter. Saves time with audio correction. Thanks man.

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a lapel mic but I only use for rare occasions, like if I’m outside or trying to keep audio very consistent across a lot of different environments. But, the Boya BYM1 is a good budget option. It’s around twenty dollars and the cord is extremely long so I would try that. If it’s not what you’re looking for you can go wireless. Rode has a low cost wireless kit you can find on Amazon.

    Hello Nick,
    First of all thanks for all the information you share..it's really helpful
    I have a query..how good is the free giveaways technique to grow your channel along with the regular videos you post...I am thinking of starting it but what I fear is even if I gain subscribers that way will they be loyal subscribers who actually like your videos or they are just there for the free stuff

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've already hit the problem on the head. Trying to drive growth via giveaways is a bad idea as it attracts people not interested in your content, they are just interested in the thing you're giving away.

      You can record in 60fps and it will be fine for the frame skipping. Once you have your screen and cam recorded you can export them separately to work with in another software or you can edit directly inside Camtasia.

    Hey Nick I have a Question: I have some regular family video on my TH-cam channel but it says “Copyright claim” on some of them because of Music in the videos I guess. However Will the video get blocked, removed, and/or deleted by TH-cam once I get over 1,000 subscribers. Will I loos my videos? Because I don’t have these videos saved on my computer and I’m noticing that my subscribers are growing. I do want my channel to grow but I don’t want to lose some of these videos. Maybe there’s a setting that I can use for these videos (like The video will still be visible just not make any money off of it in the future) ?

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, you won't lose those videos. If there were a strike/takedown situation, it would happen immediately. Your videos are simply being claimed, which means the copyright owner is claiming your ad revenue on those videos. Your videos stay up, and they get the revenue.
      As a side note, you can download your own videos in Studio if you ever need a personal copy for your records.

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know anything about your laptop. Id' be checking out Filmora or Camtasia and see what works on your laptop. Most software has a free trial you can install to make sure it works for you.

    Hey quick question! I'm a small TH-camr and I was wondering what's the best time to post?

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think of the audience you’re trying to reach. For example, if you’re trying to reach people in the US, posting when they are likely to be online is the right move. As you start posting, TH-cam will show you in your analytics when your audience is mostly online to help you fine tune the right time to post.

    • @ToastingCheesetoo

      I've always used OBS as a streamer friend got me into the idea, so having a webcam over the top is easy, the only way I know to have them separate is to make both smaller and record and then duplicate the clips in post and zoom in to the level I want on each side and then cut two full-length videos into one.

  • @TinyBreezy

    What webcam do you use to film yourself?

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use DSLRs instead of webcams. For my live show I use mostly Sony a6500s and for phone calls, meetings or training content I’ll use the Canon M50. I use a Camlink or ATEM mini to get them into my computer. Those things make my cameras readable as webcams.

    You can do this plus more with OBS and plus it's free lmao 🤣

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OBS requires setup, only records a static screen, doesn’t have curser follow, magnification, etc. OBS also doesn’t have the option for dynamic zoom and panning of all layers at once with smart focusing to give your zoomed in screen a clean appearance as long as the zoom is within reason. OBS also doesn’t function as a stand alone video editing software like Camtasia. Camtasia can’t live stream, that’s the only place OBS is better. But when it comes to screen recording, OBS pales in comparison to Camtasia.
