    SOG has definitely turned a corner. I now own the Kiku XR, Kiku 4 inch, Kiku assisted (hate assisted, but wanted to complete the set), Pillar, SEAL FX Tanto, and the SEAL XR will be here Monday.
    Great video man. New sub here.

      Welcome to the crew buddy. I completely agree and I’m so excited to watch them going forward.

    I got my second seal xr today. Flipper tab I's basically stuck. It takes all my power to open. I'm six ft two fifty and I weld John Deere buckets full time. So when I say takes all my strength to open I'm serious. It's very disheartening. I actually believed that this was the one . Shoulda got the fixed blade. Great video. Thanks

      Is it easier for you to use the thumb hole? Because I can’t use it at all. Have you disassembled the Seal? I put it back together wrong once and experienced what you’re talking about.

      @@DaveLikesKnives so it's very possible this KNIFE was already disassembled then. I found it advertised as new. It didn't have the plastic tie around it my first one had. Im going to try and purchase some torx tomorrow. I'm little bit nervous about breaking this thing down. Thank u so much for the information you gave me I absolutely appreciate you so much. God bless

      @@austinnewby9666 I’m glad I could help, please keep me updated. I don’t know what you mean by the plastic tie, but remember to have the normal Torx (6, 8, and 10) as well as a 30 for the back bit.

    I don't like bearings , but Sog did a Fantastic job knurling out the area around these bearings on both the blade and the liners , making the pivot area nice and tight , I wish Sog would do that to all their bearing knives ....👍👍

    • @DaveLikesKnives
      @DaveLikesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, they buried the bearings in there to protect them. I'm assuming you don't like them getting gunked up?

    • @Baruch-Hashem
      @Baruch-Hashem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could find bronze phosphers that fit and change them out if you so wanted this bad enough or needed to do so. It is not dificult, nor is it free. I found it is better to use two phospher bronze washers (per side) 1/2 the thinkness of the bearings better than a single of the same thinckness (more slip).

    Dave , what the Hell did you do to that knife? Did you attack that S.O.G. Seal XR with a dremel ? Why would you do that ? 😅
    What trips me out is the jimping you grinded down is the most comfortable jimping on the entire knife. What happend to the opening hole in the blade? It looks damaged , ugh I mean modified too? 🤣
    I'm not even going to mention the Flipper tab.....lol
    I'm just messing with you , please don't get offended. Great video by the way 👍

    • @DaveLikesKnives

      That's exactly what I did. I'm so pleased with the results, I've got a side project going that I lovingly refer to as "Dremelcine." Got a tumor? Dremel. Got acne? Dremel. Got a broken heart from a bad breakup? Dremel. Fixes all woes.

    SOG was kind enough to red loc tight my pivot and used screws made out of candy. Judging by easily j can feel them wanting to strip out. Go sog.

    Do these bearings need a drop of oil?
    Or does it make gank up?

    • @DaveLikesKnives
      @DaveLikesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      some good cheap pivot oil is always a good call. i bought literally the cheapest stuff bladehq sells and I've loved it for years. grease gunks it up, but light oil wont.

    • @DaveLikesKnives
      @DaveLikesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How did it break? What were you doing? The thing that sucks about the XR is that you need both springs for it to work, an actual Axis lock works with just one.

    Do me a favor and buy a bench made omega spring. See if it fits lol. I just purchased a seal Xr in FDE. Hasn’t arrived yet but I think the beefier bench made spring might be a good upgrade.

    I've tried many times but I can't disassemble this knife. The Loctite on the pivot is too strong to undo. Is there anything I can do so I can take the seal apart to clean/maintain?

    • @DaveLikesKnives
      @DaveLikesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      DON'T FORCE IT! You might risk stripping the pivot screw. I've heard success stories from heating up the pivot with a soldering iron to try to melt the locktite or a small tap from a hammer to break it but have not tested either myself. BE CAREFUL WITH EITHER! Really wish I could be more helpful but this isn't a problem I've had on knives I care about.

    I must own this knife, but the Tanto just came out! Did it arrive in a clam shell?

    • @DaveLikesKnives
      @DaveLikesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tanto is a fixed only, I think. I would be soooooooo excited for that if it weren't $250 but that's something I can't justify (at the moment). It didn't come in the plastic box, thankfully. I hate those things. Ordered from my local knife shop though, so I don't know if they are available in clam shell in big box stores.

    SOG-pfffft! Your money is better spent elsewhere. Wiha is one of the best driver and bits out there. They are pricey but won't break. I use them exclusively on my knives. You can by individual bits in any size you need so you don't have a bunch of extra bits that you'll never use taking up space. You're ginna pay for them but I feel it's worth it.
