    What rare find, a TH-camr that actually does an honest review and is not relying on kickbacks to pay for their trip around Australia or all their gear. You’ve saved me a lot of frustration, thanks very much for the review mate 👍

    I appreciate straight, honest reviews from people who are actually paying for and using the product. Thanks, mate. You've got a great setup so it's a shame the fridge has let you down.

    After Living with my Engel 90 litre for two years, I will 100% back up your advice. I bought Engel as their name in the Ozzy Outback is pristine. I am completely of the opposite opinion, having had this noisy, leaky, under lit, piece of junk. Sorry Engel, this absolutely is not worth the high price I paid for it. Good work Wayne.

    I have a 130L Bushman upright fridge in a Norweld canopy on my Dmax. Norweld supplied the fridge and bracket that clamps over the fridge with four adjustable clips on the bottom sides. You can adjust the tension in the clips to ensure the fridge is clamped square, ensuring the body of the fridge is not twisted out of alignment to the door seal and top handle latch.

      Thanks Paul, mine also is housed with brackets to insure it’s square. Tommy Campers have tried twice and failed to correct the problem so I’m hesitant to give it a shot my self.

    I run two Engels, but never again. The biggest problem is the support network consists of auto elecs and retailers who know nothing about them. Getting engel to repair the fridge directly is hopeless.

    Gr8 review bud. It's time the people that supply òr deal start executing FULL WARRANTY for their products. And stop the run around. If the local guy said you have to go back to the guy that done the adjustment it means there is some thing wrong with it and he should rectify that there and then ... THAT is the service that should come from a warranty for an over priced product .......
    Realisticly it's a $200 fridge .. not a thousand

    Very surprised to hear about the Engel fridge, always considered them the best, for efficiency, performance and after sales service. I have a 50 l Sacco fridge and never missed a beat. Price is not always a statist of quality and service. Keep good work up Wayne. It’s better than your day job.

    Yep bought the same fridge and after 2 1/2weeks of using it. The door handle snapped (very flimsy cheap plastic) the compressor had poor paint job so it was chipping off and rust, air coming out the same corner as yours, door lock spring very weak and flimsy so fatigue in no time. Compressor is noisier than my MTV45F too much vibrations. Engel don’t want to hear anything. Tentworld customer service is useless and want to take the fridge just to have a look at it while it just need a new door handle. Ridiculous. Engels got too greedy and has lower its standard. Previously I had a brand new MTV45F. 6 months later the plastic cracked on the lid corners for non reason. I will never buy Engel again and this is my 3rd time buying Engel.

    Interesting review. I have had my Engel 80L upright in my trailer for over 18 months and around 15K kms with no problems.
    The doors are narrower than the Dometic because that’s mainly where the Dometic picks up an extra 20L of space. I keep my 2 litre in the tray where it lifts up.

    Everything today seems to be made and sent out the door with no setup for after sales service unless you like navigating the internet or 45 minutes phone calls. Everything seems to be made to be disposable.

    I bought my Engel 2 way new in 2003 for $1100, it had next to no use at all and when the 3 year warranty was over, the compressor died! Engel were decent enough to cover half of the replament cost of around $600, which was a disappointment in it going in the first place. Just this week and again with many years of not even being turned on, it failed again, took it to the Engel dealer for a quote for repairs, had to pay $132 up front and then got told that the power supply unit was no longer available and couldn't be repaired, thank you Engel!

    Thanks for the review , I'm also on the hunt for an upright fridge for my new build coming soon, and I can tell ya that I won't be going with Engel from what I've seen from your review .
    That's such a shame from Engel, considering the name they carry.

  • @evil17

    Sorry to hear you had such issues with an Engel. I agree the door should be deigned to accomodate 2ltr milk/juice/water bottles & this is where many of the uprights fail, I dont like laying large plastic bottle sideways as often they can leak.
    The constant icing issue would be directly related to the leaking door seal, I would think it should not be a hard adjustment to make, but ur right, you should not have to & it should have been manufactured to fit correctly in the first place.
    Engel seems to have dropped their lollies here, it does not seem a very robust fridge overall for what it is designed for, considering Engel is supposed to be a leading brand & we pay a lot extra for that quality that just does not seem to be here. TFS. Cheers

    “a little disappoint with their customer service” I would have been around there (12km) like a shot and sorted them out - they would have fixed it (under warranty. Or I would have walked out of there with a new fridge under my arm. That said, I’ve got a 32ltr chest job that has to be 35yrs old and hasn’t missed a beat, save for a new latch about 10yrs ago.

    With my Tommy Camper. I did not order the fridge. I installed a Dometic 65L. As I have the overhead table storage. Same kitchen as other Gavin on your channel.
    I can only highly recommend it. Quiet keeps constant temp in refrigerator. Between 6 - 3 °C. Freezer section thoung not huge. Seems to be between -8 to -10°C. The freezer will ice up but only after a month or two. Power usage is very low. In comparing it to the Kings 25L chest fridge freezer. I have in the other side.

    Any update from Engel? I really liked the look of this fridge as you don't need a fridge cage to mount it. To combat the dirty door you could get one of those canvas fridge organisers.

    • @gavinwilliamson3944
      @gavinwilliamson3944 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Incorrect. Tommy is a Engel dealer. So that's all they supply.
      Most manufactures fridges are very close to each other in dimensions. Engel 56l fridge and be substituted for a Dometic or Bushman 65L. Same with the 80/85/90L models they are all within 5mm.
      Example. to get 65L Dometic into Engel hole. I cut 5 mm off the rubber feet on the dometic.Shortening them to 15mm, from 20mm. So I could use the same factory trim. No other reason other wise it was straight in the hole.

    Id never buy a upright fridge for offroading! everything bouncing around on the shelves. Your warranty isn't being honoured I assume because you let a 3rd party ie Tommy Camper modify/adjust it. I run 2 engel chest freezers n never had a issue with them. Uprights are for Caravan Park Campers IMO

  • @tims728
    @tims728 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Shame as their chest freezers used to be good. I looked at one of these and thought it was poor design, noisy and door issues as ypu say. Have a Nova Kool, made in Canada for the boat market, its super quiet and the door locks recognise products in the fridge can force the door ajar, so the company has an easy engineering solution. Power consumption was around 2.5amp/hr. I'd buy again. Have a dometic as well and its very good design wise, shelves etc are great.

    I have a 20 year old Engel 40l fridge . Never let me down and still runs like the day I bought it . I also recently purchased a Kings 75 litre dual zone because of the price diff and a 5 year warranty matching the Engel warranty . I was considering a 40l Engel combi fridge freezer . I can no longer justify the price of the Engel . No longer made in Japan . As with most brands , Engel source the cheapest components like everybody else , So buying a brand is no longer a safe bet .

    Hi Wayne ,, i gota say , this is weak as p...s from engel .. we have run them in our trucks for ages over the years ,( not uprights ) , and they worked well ... in fairness, to you they should have helped you in someway to fix it ?? As you run a great camper , .. honestly i thought your 1st fridge was quite good on your first camper ... all the best happy miles ...L
