How to fix a shade that won't go up anymore (internal strings)

  • This is one possible reason why your shade might be "stuck" or unable to go up or down anymore.
Note that I did realize a mistake in this video. The end points out what I should have done, but given the tools I had on hand, that method wouldn't have been possible anyway.

Watching your video has saved me time money and a lot of hassle. I had a knot at the top but wouldn’t have worked it out without your video.
    Thank you very very much.
    God bless you.

Saved me a huge headache, thanks! String was just wrapped around knot. Had no clue sans this vid.

This video saved my butt! I went in from the side with a wire hanger and was able to fish the knot and line out enough to undo the knot. Fixed my issue thank you!

Huge thank you for this, one side of our shade “broke” about a month ago, and I was going to replace it with a new one today when I realized it doesn’t fit. Found this video and sure enough, a knot in one of the strings! Saved me about $70 (if it’s not a standard measurement shade then it’s not cheap!), thank you!!

Thanks millions. Found the knot but couldn't get the shad off of the window and couldn't fish the string all the way out so ended up cutting on the back side to get to the knot. That worked perfectly.

Thank you Ryan!! The hooked wire coat hanger worked perfectly. Our knot originated in the bottom mechanism as well.

I didn't have a knot. The problem with mine is that one of the cords fell off the wheels in the top and got trapped. I just had to pull on it to release it from where it was stuck and it was fixed.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you for a most excellent video. I used a small drain snake to grab the loop of the knot, being careful to pull the snake out flat to the cell surface to avoid tearing it. The only question remaining is can I still blame the cat for this debacle or does it happen in cat less households as well.

Glad it helped! Ha, maybe a bird flew in through the window and in it's attempt to escape, it clawed at the blind..?

Hi there! Sorry, but I'm not sure of the brand. They were discontinued, but I got them years ago from JCPenny

I had this problem and dissembled the bottom and pulled the string through so that the knot came out the bottom, where I was then able to undo it. But the shade still hangs at the spot where it wasn't able to go up before and is lifeless. I tried pulling it all the way down, then yanking a few times at a 45 degree angle, but that didn't help. Any tips? Is your blind one of the Norman cordless honeycomb (the child safety ones) ones?

Oo, sorry to hear your blind isn't working now. I have a cheap version that I'm not sure are even made anymore, but they're diamond shaped. No tips really on how to fix it other than make sure the line is connected at the top and bottom, but I'm sure you already did that with your inspection. Best of luck!

@@realryanhomes6858 Thanks for your reply! I just wanted to come back and say I took it apart again and wound the string around the gear and it seems to work now! I couldn't get it tight enough to go 100% up but it's pretty close now!

    Use a crochet hook

      @realryanhomes6858  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Oo, that would have been perfect. Unfortunately I don't have any around the house, but great suggestion!

Yes, indeed. I explained that in the video it would be best to use a hook device to grab the string if you can. :)
