  • This is when you blind seems stuck. It will not come down all the way and will not retract. Use your warranty first if you can. This problem is a defect of manufacturing IMO. I ordered a house full of these blinds and nearly half of them have had problems.

    I did a shortcut. Instead of unrolling the string (which I found hard to do) I simply unrolled the string off the spool on the opposite side of the spool from the slot. I got it down to the groove and insured only one string was in the grove (as shone) and then began to feed the string back on the spool from the other side. One of the rollers (I had two that were wrong ) I had to remove the short metal rod (it clicks right out) and reinstall it from the other side. Hard to explain but once you get into it it becomes apparent what you need to do. I tightened it from the bottom and put it back together and it works perfectly. This video is great for showing how it all works together.

    Very helpful clip providing the information I needed to explain how the cordless mechanism works. My situation did not involve the string coming off the roller onto the shaft, but was mainly that the retraction mechanism seemed to be binding somewhere.
    But I was unable to locate the point(s) of binding. With the dust cover removed, I could see the re-winding action of the string on the take-up rollers, and after gently moving the blind up and down in short strokes, it seemed to loosen up.

    • @patpatpat999
      @patpatpat999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      applesguy I myself don’t fully understand how they work. I “think” the weight of the shade pulls down on the thing metal bar. The downward force applies a braking force so when you lift up the rewind spring is free to do its’ thing.

    Ugh just got ours and our biggest window has this issue. To be fair, I think this one was not a factory defect on ours, I'm pretty sure it's because my husband was trying to raise it by only lifting one side, which put tension on the far side and slacked the one he was using (allowing it to double-wrap around the roller there). I couldn't find a solution to this anywhere, thank you.

    Ok this I much simpler fix then this video instruction. After you take off the dust cover and the little black cover over the sting wound area all you have to do is pop off both ends caps then push the square metal rod until it past the white plastic string roller, lift the roller out, EASILY unwind the string, rewind it back correctly then put the white roller with string rolled up back, put black cover on, push square rod back and your done. Waaaaay easier then this video shows. Took me less then 5 mins to fix.

    My problem was the string that extended down through the pleats and tie off end of the cord pulled through it's little washer. I could see string piled up through the the top pleat. The Dry Teflon spray you recommended made the shade as good as new once the string was re-routed through the shade and tied off.
    Now I know what to do with the other dozen Bali shades that no longer close without a fight. Thanks!

    My problem turned out to be a knot in the string in the middle of the blind. I removed the blind, pulled it out to full extension, used vice grips to hold the shaft from retracting, then pulled the strings out from the bottom, pulling the knot out the bottom and untangling it. Reassemble and, voila!

  • @davem5403
    @davem5403 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, but the problem on my 2017 Bali cordless blinds was different.
    The issue wasn't the brake portion (which I did slide over a bit away from the string roll)
    I found that when winding back up the string HAS to push over the rest of the roll of string that's already wound up as it goes. The further up you go, the more it pushes over the roll of string to push it out of the way. I'm sure that tension is part of the overall tension and sticking problem.
    If that string roll binds at all when retracting (won't move over) the blinds sticks.
    If any strings are crossed going up or down it also sticks
    I added a bit of the dry film lube onto the surface of the white string backing roller while retracting .
    Now the roll of string can slide across the string roller as needed. (I didn't get hardly any on the string itself).
    Finally, the blinds that were sticking for years going up or down move ok.

    I just finished trying to repair mine, and the string is key for the most part, but whatever you do, don't screw with what I think is the locking mechanism? It looks like a sheet of thin metal wrapped up, depicted in your video at 2:49. I took the rod out trying to repair one of the cords close to it, and I heard a snap and what sounded like that metal part was unraveling. Now my shades don't go all the way up anymore. They hang about 7 inches or so.

      @@torie206 I can’t say for sure, but sometimes it’s because the cord whines on to its spool in a disorderly way and makes it hard. That’s why sometimes pulling the shade all the way down as far as it will go and then letting it come back up slowly in a controlled manner will let the string rewind in a nice even fashion.if that is of no help, I am sorry. • @englepj
      @englepj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I broke one of the strings when my blind was too hard to pull down. I'll assume that on your blind only one string broke. Use the other good cord as an example of what your restringing should look like. I used a 4" sewing needle (maybe it was a darning needle) to thread the string down through the closed shade to bottom. I had to tape the string to the needle. I used a little tape as possible. The string goes through a grommet at the bottom of the blind. I think I had to remove the grommet in order to thread the cord. Then I threaded the cord through the grommet and then inserted the grommet back into the bottom of the blind. The cord then gets a knot in it.
