This video has been dubbed into a few different languages. You can change the audio track language in the Settings menu.
This video covers how horizontal window blinds work. The mechanism that allows this to work is at the very top. The cord lock allows the blinds to be held up by pinching the lift strings between two rollers. The tilting of the blinds is handled by the wand tilt mechanism or the cord tilt mechanism. These mechanisms turn the gears, which turn the rod, the drums, which pulls the ladder strings to tilt the blinds.

Yeah, that's An awesome idea. Jared, please put this on Your list.

You should do how does a seatbelt in a car work
Excellent idea
hahahaHah what a funny comment man have a great day
@@bobmcboblin There's also the inertia lock that allows the belt to be extended gently but locks if pulled quickly, and the retractor that keeps the belt tight.
My bus has those exact seatbelts, mosly on the seats (safeguard belts), so I want to know how they work.
That would be a real short video tho. The mechanism isn't too complex.
This was more like a “how to use window blinds 101” for me
Same. I was scared of these things before. Cause I was scared of breaking them.
same, I never knew how to slide them back down 'till now
Same didn’t know how to make them stat ever 😤
Same I thought my blinds were broken but turns out I'm just an idiot

@@JaredOwen Thank you, do you have adice on where to buy a thread to use to change on the blinds?
@@JaredOwen Sorry advice as to where to find the thread to change it on the blinds? tia :)
Using "This little light of mine" in the background is genius.
Thanks
I knew I'd heard that before. Just couldn't place it. Lol
Wow how can one video get everything right?! Beautiful animation, easy to understand, and the sponsor is relevant and smoothly transitioned in. Great video!
This helped me soooo much. I’ve been on TH-cam for almost an hour trying to figure out how to get my blinds down. Thought I was definitely gonna have to pay to replace them. Then I stumbled unto your video and was finally able to get them down. Thanks so much
Rachel Riley same here!!!
Mine are jammed, any advice please?
I've applied some oil to lubricate the wheels
Same here! Once I understood the mechanism I gently pulled apart some pieces, sorted out a blockage with the cords and voilà. Top notch video! Excellent animation too
It's amazing how simple they always turn out to be!
This is EXACTLY what my life needed
I am curious about just about EVERYTHING and how they work
Edit: how does anyone even think and invent these things?
I feel you bro...I'm also curious about knowing how things work
We have brilliant minds amongst us. They are the reason our technology has advanced as far as it is today.
Everything starts from a simple mechanism, then more components are added to make it more efficient
Nwabueze Ozuzu we do
But we also have idiots who refuses to wear a mask in pandemic
@@dh4444 I didn't know that people not wearing masks could make me physically violent
They are the hardwork of mechanist of several decades
This is so interesting. I love how you break down how the mechanism works. I can really appreciate the hard work that must have gone into this.
Amazing animation, one of the clearest I've watched, and thanks for giving the parts their names ie "end stiffeners".
I guess his neighbors were really confused on why this guy was rolling his window up and down...
🤣
Now there's a funny mental image.
🤣
Minecraft Heaven Nice!
@@ammarsiddiqui3586 what is this box
Well done, Jared. I have no idea how long it takes to create these animations, but you do it so well.
The reason I love these videos are:
1) They are clearly explained, with excellent animations, to say nothing of the 3D components.
2) You don't leave anything out. When the video is over you know exactly how it works, with no boxes/mechanisms left unexplained, for those who need a thorough explanation. Even if you forget how it works in the future, and just take it for granted that it does, it's always nice to remember that you knew how it worked at one time, so you know it's not "magic".
Thank you David!
SO helpful!! I watched a few other videos from other sources to help me understand the workings of my horizontal blinds. This was, by far, the most helpful. Thank you!!
Video idea: A video on how you make these amazing graphics. My mind is blown by your videos.
Thank you! I'll do a behind the scenes in the near future
Whate heck
Dude your videos are so brilliantly made
I use my blinds everyday but I never really figured out why they work. You put everything so plainly and the visuals are extremely clear.
I can’t believe your channel doesn’t have a septillion subscribers
Thanks a bunch! I'm slowly growing - I'm hoping to hit 1 million later this year
Thank you for making this so easy to understand and follow. I’ve been struggling with these blinds for 30 minutes and your video helped me fix them in 2
Superbly clear animation.
Jared, this video is amazing! Thank you for making it and allowing us to be part of the process.
Super clear description of the window blinds mechanism. Clear video, clear audio, clear presentation, you even mentioned some of the alternative ways in which things may be implemented. The clearness and attention to detail deserves a - wow. =)
(I would love to see some Blender tutorials by you.)
Thanks Samuel! I may do blender tutorials in the future but for now I'm just focusing on doing animations
I love that you go into these small details
Quick, simplified, yet thorough!
Hi Mariah, thank you for the kind words!
I am honestly impressed with both the sponsor and the seamless for this video has to the sponsor.
Thanks Matthew! The staff at FixMyBlinds is super awesome, I hope to work with them again in the future

How long did it take you to complete the whole thing in blender? (Without rendering) If you have courses on how you create your videos, I would like to sign up and learn.
how do you know it was done in Blender....i am also very interested in learning how to do such animations....
@@juancarlosabad3298 Jared mentioned that he has used Blender many times for these animations
Yeah how do you know it wasn't done in a food processer.....heheheheheh!
@@mickjager5974 maybe he is using an actually blender for these animations
Ive been taking a look at his upload dates and video lengths and as far as I can see he needs a whole month for each 7½ minutes of his video (2 months for 15 minutes etc). This means he needs around 4 days in average for each minute of content he produces.
(I would guess he works around an hour daily but relaxed, his videos look very passionate, so I think he has a huge fun making them every day, almost like a video game)
All this information is just my guess based on analysing his situation and combining it with my own experience throughout life
Awesome video!!! I do property management and blinds replacement is an ongoing frustration. Thank you for this video and for the reference to "fix my blinds."
Thank you! I was replacing the tilt mechanism and it wasn’t working. I assumed I had put the whole thing back together wrong, your video showed me that I had the cord housing upside down. Now my blinds work perfectly!
I never actually knew how to use these so thanks
This guy is literally the answer to our childhood curiousity
This was really well done. From the flow of the presentation to the animation. Good stuff!
I recently got a book called "How Your House Works," which has exploded diagrams of things in your house such as the blinds, faucets and so forth. This channel is so much better because with the animation I can see the parts actually working. Kudos!
Thank you Jared love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
God bless you 😂 I've been searching for a vid just like this
Glad I could help!
have seen this day in and day out, yet did not think there was so much behind this to be explained. Very nicely done. Thank You for the very informative video
Thank you so much for this explanation! I just got some Venetian blinds for my back door and hadn't a clue how they worked! Merry Christmas.

Jared can you do a video where you explain how a party popper/ confetti popper works. You could also do how fireworks work too, they would all be great for a July 4th video.
yes please
I'll look into this, thanks!
Awesome explanation. Helped me to fix my blinds myself. Please update more videos like this. Started me to find and explore animatated explanations on web to understand how things work!
This was EXACTLY the video I was looking for to understand how blinds work! Thank you.
Can you please do what was inside the Hindenburg :)
Hydrogen, there was Hydrogen
This one is on my list actually. Look for it later this year
The world's greatest mystery finally solved.
Lol thanks man! You saved me! I pulled the strings on the blinds in my moms house and the lock part was rusty and locked up at the top. My mom yelled for 5 mins, and was really mad saying I needed to buy her a new one now, I watched this video. Figured out the rusty lock part was preventing the blinds from going back down. Shoved my pocket knife in there and BAM the blinds fell down. Took 3 mins to find the solution and fix the issue. Thanks a bunch lol.
I absolutely love your videos! I’ve always been interested in how certain things work and no one that I found explains it better than you! keep up the phenomenal work!

This is a great resource for me to add to my Science pulleys and gears unit for Grade 4, along with your other related videos. Thank you☺️
Thank you so much for this! I've been wondering about the mechanics of blinds since I was a kid. The solutions are so simple and ingenius. Definitely subscribing to learn more. Thank you!
excellent video - along with your explanation, the graphics clearly show how the blinds operate. thanks
Nice animation and simple explanation of complicated mechanisms. Thank you!
Thank you Jared . Now from you video I finally learned after years and years of struggling of learning how lift and lower the blinds. Many thanks 🙏
This is actually really helpful. I'm from India and have a set of broken blinds. Now I know what's the exact problem so I can't address it better. Thank you so much 👍🏽
Thanks - this helped me sort out an installation problem - I'm grateful and gratified
GREAT video. The string in my blinds broke from friction and it seemed absurd to automatically treat them as so much landfill.
I found your video; will buy a new string and fix them myself.
Thank you!
Thank you for making this. It was helpful to unfold my stuck curtail
I can't decide which one I like more: the engineering, or the explanation? One wouldn't work without the other, so it's a tie! Thanks! :)
Hi :Hope to see you explain how cordless faux wood blinds work in the near future!

I never knew I could be this fascinated by regular ol’ window blinds. Wonderfully interesting video!

Thanks for all the work you put into these animations. Very clear explanations.
Thank you. The animation provides a vivid and informative description of the working principle.
Glad to help
So much genius ingenuity in everyday items. Thank you Jared!
Your welcome!
Thanks for this!, scratched an itch I had RE going about automating these types of blinds
Nice demonstration. Thank you for your awareness
Nice! As a suggestion, it would be great to add on the end of this video the automatic controlled window blinds mechanism which uses simple motors to perform the work of opening and shutting. With an app, you can control it.
Thank You!!! Greetings and thanks from Croatia!!!

I would love if you did one on tension rods! I know it's a quite simple mechanic involving a spring, but I'm not completely sure on how it works. Would love a proper look inside!
Thank you for your work!
This informational video production beats all the rest...hands down!
Excellent job. Really well done.
Jared, thank you for showing me how to fix my blind - it had a jammed tilt string. Your instructions were generic enough for me. I was concerned that a part might be broken, but no thing was broken. Happy me.
