- In this video I talk about my initial impressions of the new Guild Wars 2 expansion End of Dragons. This might help you to decide if it is worth it to jump back into GW2 in 2022 and pick up the expansion.
The first couple of hours I was greeted with a great story, environments, voice acting and music. Not everything was perfect though as you will find out in the video.
Since for the last 8 months I've been a revenant main, I decided to go into the expansion as a Vindicator.

the tutorial heart area was certainly a welcome surprise and the empty instances are already fixed it was really a good idea to release on monday so all relevant devs are at work and stuff gets fixed fast
The only major bugs that I have ran into was the Kirin Hero Point in Shing Jea and I got story progression blocked due to the fact that I had to fight another hero point enemy in the city, but I had already done so when I was running around the area, so I was forced to wait for another player to come and fight the enemy for me to move forward. The maps do feel a bit empty, but I saw them acknowledge the issue on the forums earlier today, so hopefully they feel a bit more full soon. I did notice that it was weird that there were tons of players in Eye of the North and Lorner's Pass for the first mission, but barely anyone on the subsequent maps, so I had thought that they had turned the number of people allowed on each map instance down for further launch stability.
The expansion itself has been stellar. There have been only a few server hiccups personally, and I mostly blame my service provider for that. No queue times is huge for me, especially coming off Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker's launch, where I waited literal hours to get in the game, but to be fair ArenaNet has always been really good about game uptime and their network code must be some of the very best in the industry. The voice acting is incredible and Gorrik has really grown on me as my new favorite character. The music is amazing and fitting to the setting. They have really outdone themselves and deserve the praise for a smooth and playable expansion launch.

Regarding combos - I think they already moving in this direction as some of catalyst traits are designed to work only when you perform combos, I liked it a lot.
Definitely need to try out catalyst soon. I haven't played it anymore since the first catalyst beta.
Yeah but before catalyst, we have several combo traits like on warrior, engie, and Zephyrite runes which they removed. Hopefully they’ll make a full 180 then bring them back

Can't wait to test it out myself! Quite curious about these bugs and if they will be patched soon 🤔 but most of it all I can't wait to listen to the new soundtracks and epic story 😃
I assume they will be patched soon. Just encountered more than I am used to from Anet.
The only "bug" I have encountered so far (20 hrs) is empty shards & I think this may be more of an over-aggressive population cap than a real bug. The maps are also huge so any population is already spread out.i
Maybe I have just been getting super unlucky this time. It's possible of course.
The empty shards have been feeling quite weird though, almost taking away a bit of that "expansion rush"-feeling.

@@MasterOfNoneGaming Id recommend joining squads on lfg, especially for the meta events, makes the game feel so much more alive and MMO-like if you´re running around in a big group.
never had a single bug some metas failed but i feel thats expected personal i had a great time

Anet somehow managed to completely break the mounts in EoD. For starters, there's a bug which allows the roller beetle to accelerate up to max speed simply by holding forward, no need to boost or roll down a hill. Not even hard to do lmao just anchor your skiff and mount your beetle and away you go. I honestly hope they fix it soon because this bug completely trivialises beetle racing. I was able to beat the world record on the diessa plateau beetle track without boosting a single time. Only took like 20 min of trying too. It's completely busted. Though the beetle community has at least agreed to ban it in competition until it gets fixed.
Then there's another bug which I don't know how to do but it breaks every single mount in the game. The beetle can bounce across water indefinitely. The beetle and jackal can fly. The jackal can go at the same speed as a top speed griffon. The griffon's top speed is now faster than the beetle's and can reach it without need to flap its wings during a dive. The skyscale now has the highest max speed out of all the mounts for some reason. I'm not sure how this bug works but I've been told it has something to do with the jade bot terminals and that it's complicated.

They actually posted yesterday that the "empty maps" was something they were keeping an eye on as it was likely related to them just not wanting to overload initially. After the post/change, I was finally able to do my first meta event and WOOF they are definitely difficult but a lot of fun. I spent most of my time running around trying to rez people lol
I agree fishing would have felt more fun as a gathering profession. As a mastery it just seems like it's all backloaded into baits and stuff, but I do still enjoy doing it during downtime.
I am hoping the new elite specs get some love in tuning sometime soon, because the numbers don't look great for most of them. But the good news is the old elite specs are still doing fine in competitive content, so if you had an "old" spec you liked to play it should still be viable and fun. Rev has to deal with the recent nerfs, but honestly the nerfs they (and other strong specs) received were a long time coming. They are still incredibly strong and I don't see them leaving the meta anytime soon.
Completely agree with everything you've said. And yeah, once the population issue is fixed it might actually feel like an expansion launch :D
Its crazy how different experiences can be. I only encountered 2 bugs (Kirin HP and being stuck on the hero point story step since i already killed it earlier) aside from that the game has been running very smooth for a fresh launch. Low player numbers due to too many map instances wasnt that much of an issue for me because i usually look for big squad to join on lfg.
Overall I really like the direction of this expac, lots of game mechanic tutorials for newer players and challenging endgame content for the veterans. The loot systems are a bit confusing, new currencies that need to be exchanged at vendors which previously filled different functions and reward value not being obvious at first glance.
Personally id rank the expacs: EoD > HoT > PoF
Agreed! There is tons of good stuff for sure. I'm positive that most bugs will be squished in no time, sadly I still encountered more in my playthrough (getting stuck in terrain during story for example, having to restsrt the instance).
I do personally prefer HoT over EoD though but I might also be affected by nostalgia goggles haha
Funny mentioning lost ark and watching this....we talked about it today and one guy was pretty much righg in saying: GW2 chars arent even worse...lost ark has some better shaders, perhaps some better materials...but it genuinely comes down to lighting and design. VFX adds as well.
Imagine just having an overhaul in that...
Soundtrack is and always was a hidden gem...there are some iconic songs that are among the best in the industry. I dont think the new ones reach some of them, but they are good.
The city theme reminded me on bladerunner with chill music.
Definitely! Lost Ark is very over he top with sounds and effects but I think that is what makes it so satisfying.
Havent bought the expansions yet.. Kinda seeing whats up.. Great video. Thanks. Also fishing seems a bit just "thrown In there" i mean sure i get it its just fishing but could ve made it more important?
I think it's used in crafting the new legendaries, so there is that at least. The rest I still have to discover

I've the same experience with a bit extra. I actually crashed the game when I tried to use a jade machine that needed fixing. Sent the report to ANet but, I was not expecting that. The HP is still not working and the dialog skipping and skiff not anchoring is kinda upsetting me. The skiff is soooo sketchy lol.
My rev was stuck on blue alliance skills and always went back to them after mounting up. Very annoying with 10sec CD on swapping. Had to swap pages to fix this.
I've also had this happen to me a couple of times. Especially after dismounting I'd randomly be back on blue skills.

I feel you. However, I've been thoroughly impressed with the EoD story so far, so the transition wasn't actually as difficult as expected :D
I won’t spoiler but the main two bugs that were bad for me were Kirin hero (which got fixed) and a story mission step where if you died you got put outside the mission room and can’t get back in, having to restart that part of the mission :(

The fishing game is almost pixel for pixel identical to fishing in Genshin Impact. Wonder which Anet dev is spending their time on their phone lol
I wont be playing gw2 EoD until i reach end game on lost ark x_x god damn it hard tho to break away. Thats why I watch these videos hahah
It really is! But I have already over 200hours in Lost Ark since release, so it's good for me to take a bit of a break from it haha

Starting act 4 of story. 10/10 for me so far. Virtuoso is so fun. Your complaint that the UI "could use some love" isn't helpful. Be specific with your criticisms or it just comes off as complaining.
Yeah I loved the Virtuoso, made me play my Mesmer absolutely different and I can't go back to Chrono now, I just love it and completed the whole story with it, the only bug I found was the Kirin HP
I agree some maps seem sort of empty, it was weird watching so many enemies and so little player on them, I thought at first maybe they were still playing the previous maps but it seems it was due to instance map limits.
I am genuinely surprised and happy, way better than HoT or PoF, but I think having mounts from previous expa made this way easier and faster compared to older expansions on how you need absolutely nothing to unlock masteries that previosuly hold you to advance further, so you can run through it basically and enjoy the story way better to then focus on other events or stuff.
@@Lanzetsu agree. I'm very sure anet is just keeping instanced player count low for stability purposes. It'll get better when they start merging us together. They wanted stability

My opinion hasn't changed much after playing through it all. In general there is some great stuff while I encountered quite a lot of bugs that diminished my experience a bit.
Cantha is beautiful though and the art & music teams rock.

I am probably not going to buy EoD since I dont really like GW2 but if there is a good Let's play, I might going to watch it.

No actually, the EoD soundtrack is better than that of GW1. It really is.
Classic annoying GW1 player. GW2 is a masterpiece in every sense, way more than GW1.

If you think that GW2 is superior to GW1, then thats good for you. But sadly its not for me, I preordered it but its not my Game. And honestly I hope GW2 EoD is going to be financial succesfull, since that is what let GW1 still be online.
And I am sincere, that I probably would watch a good EoD Let's Play.
The game was really empty and quite unpleasant to see that. Later on I knew why - everyone, EVERYONE jolted to Dragon´s End and now it´s more overcrowded than ant hill. Probably my most favourite expansion, though!
