Melissa and Mike, Thank you! To some, it may seem a trifle, but thank you so much for taking the flag down and avoiding the possibility of letting it hit the ground.
I agree on taking care of rented equipment. Growing up I was taught that when you borrow anything you take it back in better shape than when you got it. It is the respectful thing to do.
I agree too. I have always cleaned any cars I have ever sold on or part-exchanged, left petrol in the tank as a measure of goodwill....it goes a long way in my opinion.

Good Morning Mike. It’s a real joy to watch you operate equipment - a nice smooth, gentle hand - no lurching about. My parents taught us very early in life that equipment of all kinds was expensive and if properly cared for would most likely give you exceptional, long term service. You’re a great example of that philosophy and almost every video you make involving equipment could serve as a training film; if the viewer is paying attention. You certainly do share a wealth of great information!

Good morning all, Phil from Kansas City here. How is everyone? The nice weather has been bringing customers into the Stihl store to upgrade their equipment or have me service it. Have a Day.
Hi, Phil. May I ask you. Stihl question? I just bought a brand new MS 170. First day using it, about two hours or less into cutting sapling and small trees (max 6” diameter), my bar got wedged. No big deal. I shut it off and gently eased it free no prob. But the dang thing won’t start now!? Tried several times, waited an hour between tries, in case it was flooded. Even waited two days and tried again today. I smell fuel, it’s fuelled up, chain moves smoothly on the bar by hand. Took the bar off just in case. NO LUCK. Any ideas? Thank you :)
@@tmackie1694 It may still be flooded. I first pull the spark plug out to see if it is wet and then blow it off. Good luck, if you where in the KC area you could bring it into my Stihl store in Red Bridge.
Phil Rogers Aloha, Phil, thanks so much. You steered me on the right path. I took out the spark plug to make sure it wasn’t flooded and check the gap. Both fine. My fuel mix is dead on accurate 50:1 (non-ethanol and Stihl brand oil). Any thoughts? THANKS AGAIN 😃
I have a small property but I have gotten too old to do some of the things I wanted to do with the equipment I had. So instead of renting, which involves scheduling and then wondering if you will get the machine on a certain date and if the weather would cooperate, I bit the bullet and bought a new B2601 Kubota with FEL and backhoe. I have used it in ways I never thought of before buying it and when I have no further use for it I will sell it and have more money left than I ever could have saved by renting one. Part of that plan is keeping it serviced on schedule and out of the elements so it isn't rusted and faded by the sun.
Nice job Mike and Melissa. Mike why you have that machine just dig the hole for the pool give Melissa and Hunter and you two wonderful daughters their dream.
Mike, you really should have a Superman costume on when pulling those fence posts with concrete & stumps out of the ground or knocking the trees over. Very impressive machine & operator skill!
Pulling the evergreens out with a single grab paid for the excavator, at least for the head, i.e. piece of mind, together with the likely frustration of removing them with a small piece of equipment considering the time spent on extrication could be put toward other important tasks. Great video with the implementation, the narration and the satisfaction a smart decision was made at the rental dealership. Again I enjoy the teamwork with the narration from Mellissa as the pines were pulled.
Hello Mike and Malissa , great watching you operate the excavator shows how to operate with out being a bull in a China shop . Nice smooth and precise operation, plus being organized. Thanks from Oklahoma
Mike, I had my daughters help with things like truck repairs and operating large trucks. I had to do a little arm twisting but years later they fondly remember and appreciate those opportunities. Consider putting Hanna & Eva in the excavator’s seat for some real work experience.
Thank you for respecting the flag of this great nation that way. There are far too many these days that would do otherwise. And thank you for all the work that you put into your content.
I'm getting ready to rent another one. It's a little smaller than that. But thanks for the tip. I usually rent for the weekend and rush. But if I can rent for a month I can get all my projects done. I wish I could of done this when I was furloughed.
We had a "worshin" machine at home too in Fredonia, Pa. Mike what you said about taking care of rental equipment if you damage it it makes it more expensive when the next person rents it. Even though an insurance company would repair it somebody has to gt charged it isn't free. I am still impressed on how this mighty mini performs yes it is expensive but you didn't do this for yourself I think it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $6000.00 just to do what you are doing. Hello Hunter I saw you when you got the fence. Thank you for sharing with us. Yunis be good now. Ed
Great video, Mike and Melissa. In your tips, you might also mention getting trained on the equipment you’re renting and taking on only the type of equipment you can handle safely.
your buddy at M&R Power equipment has a kx057 coming out to me next week, for a wees rental. they were cheapest on price and trucking within 150 miles of me
Great video! Wish I had your finesse on excavator controls!! The sea fossils in the rock reminded me of a mind-bending experience from over 40:years ago. In the mountains north of Banff, Alberta, I hiked into the back country and climbed a mountain called Brachiopod Mountain. The whole mountain - right to the top at 8,750 feet - is littered with sea fossils in the fractured limestone scree. The forces of Mother Nature in turning that sea bed into a mountain are simply awesome! PS. I also remember almost freezing when I camped overnight (ill-prepared) near the base of that mountain. It was mid-August and the daytime was pleasantly warm, yet in the morning there was a half inch coating of ice on the lake I slept beside!!
My Pittsburg Sister-in-law has taught me some Pittsburghese. I still have no idea why you call sprinkles for ice cream Jimmies though. However we already have worshing machines here in the Missouri Ozarks! Lol! Cant wait to see the new Fundominium get built. At least Mike now agrees that a pool is in your future instead of saying keep on dreamin'. Y'all have a day!
Mike over here with another low key flex, picking up the end of tow strap with a tooth from the bucket. All while I can’t keep from hitting my fence while brush hogging in a field🤣. As for the affection thing I have literally NEVER thought you guys had anything other then the most love and respect for each other.
You can rent a baby excavator (2.7 ton) here for about 700 CAD/day (500 for excavator, 140 for local delivery and 60 for fuel). That is for 10 hours max. I have a 6 ton excavator and charge 90$/h for excavating services plus floating.
Mike & Melissa, you have once again hit it out of the park! Great review of getting rental equipment, Mike! But when you were summarizing everything covered in the video, I think you skipped the affection moment. Know what I mean? You are a good man. God bless you all !!
Melissa, I had relatives who were Pittsburgh Yinzers! I understood your "worshing machine". The late Myron Cope, broadcaster for the "Stillers," was the consummate Yinzer. He created the popular "Terrible Towels." Umm Haa!
To bad a top of one wasn't available for a Christmas tree. But I've seen it before - small trees are planted next to themselves or the house and then they grow up into mature trees in 20 years or so and are to large for the spot anymore. Smothering the house or view or always in the traffic lanes. Take care. Love to both of you.
Mike running costs to add. A good few gallons (still in old measures not worked out litres yet) diesel burning on a machine of that size even for a few hours at a time. Enjoying the machine work. I am known as diggadave, driven big machines since 8 year old. Dave Leeds UK
Hey Mike, Im from WI and I just purchased this same KX-080-4 Excavator, I paid $95,600 for my machine and that is with every option and metal tracks. Ill be out fitting mine with a loftness forestry mulching head. Pretty cool you got the same machine I just bought so I can see it in action before getting mine in Oct.
It would be great if you also did a summary total of the savings total from your rental and hard labor. I'll bet the return on expense with fuel will be at least 500%!! Tree removal, pad prep and lumber from home.
Two additional lessons learned watching this video. Watching you pick up dimes with that grapple thumb I should probable might outta burn my man card. Additionally I wont be renting equipment anytime soon I'd probably have that thing jerking and bouncing all over the place. I just found your channel and the videos have been enjoyable. Thank you and God bless.
I think you also need to do the other side of the equation when considering the cost. The additional labor cost , owned equipment costs and the lost opportunity costs all should offset the rental side.
I rented a mini-ex for a week and I ended up needing it for 8 days because I got rained out one day. When I was done, I pulled the mini onto the concrete and hosed it down really well. They commented on how they hadn't seen it that clean in a long time. Strangely, they "forgot" to charge me for the 8th day...
Come on Mike, show Melissa some love. One thing I didn't hear you talk about in rental costs is fuel and lube. Not much on a Kubota but a major cost for some larger pieces of equipment. Also know what it will cost to have the equipment brought to the job. Some rental companies can soak you for this if you don't get a quote up front. If you can't haul it yourself, you can shop around and maybe hire someone to do it for less money. Better get that burning operation started before the pit fills with water. Those pine trees would have been a good thing to put in the pit first to provide a good fuel source to burn up the stumps.
Good information! Planning your work is one of the best things you can do when renting equipment. By the way, it’s “warsher” in Indiana too.😄 Have a blessed day! Jason from Indiana.
What does he need a pool for? He already does lots of work around there. A pool is great when it is somebody else's.... lol. There is always the pond...;)
Todd Edington Melisa and the kids want a pool. He has already said there will be a pool, but I have not heard anything about the time line for the building of the pool. Part of the building he is prepping the ground to build will be for a pool house. He also plans to mine some shale to use in prepping for the building. If there is some shale where the pool is planed to go, next to the new multi purpose building, he could kill two birds with one stone. Even if they need to fence the pool area off temporarily until it is time to complete it.
That is a nice machine! Melissa! You're getting a new Bronco! It all balances out! Now if I could just get my wife to understand how it should all work!

I just opened a credit account with united rental with a credit account you are eligible for rental insurance that covers most damages except for flat tires
Mike wondering why you don't open up the bucket and rake the worst of the dirt off before you drop them? We did at work and it cleans them fast. Just my favorite method! Your getting the site prepped nice 😁

Thank you for respecting the flag of this great nation that way. There are far too many these days that would do otherwise. And thank you for all the work that you put into your content.
That’s an awesome machine. And you are saving yourself a bundle being able to run it yourself. I’m loving this project 😀
Super video. Yeah, affection belongs in the house or in the bushes. Thank you for sharing the rental info.
I'm getting ready to rent another one. It's a little smaller than that. But thanks for the tip. I usually rent for the weekend and rush. But if I can rent for a month I can get all my projects done. I wish I could of done this when I was furloughed.
MIke I like watching you, you make it look so easy. I never read the comments.
Have you considered putting the stumps on the lower side of the pond, adding some fill so the road wont wash out instead of burning them?
Thanks for the information Mike , I think it is money well spent.
Ed
Good man, light for the flag.
Mike shows his affection at the controls of machines. Thankz for the fossilized rock story.
Thanks Mike! 👍
Mike & Melissa, you have once again hit it out of the park! Great review of getting rental equipment, Mike! But when you were summarizing everything covered in the video, I think you skipped the affection moment. Know what I mean? You are a good man. God bless you all !!
Ive used Sunbelt. They have nice equipment and very knowledgable.
A lot of great useful information Mike. I will feel more informed talking to a dealer now about rentals now. Thanks!
Nice a little stump removal for my morning, awesome video guys
Melissa- out with the pines/spruce/firs and in with the POOL!
Loved the opening! So fun!
Dave Leeds UK
thank you for information . give all your ladies a big hug for me . go hunter go . good man . god bless
2 things happen when I rent equipment. I never have enough time and I always seem to get a piece of equipment that is too small for what I want to do.
Good morning Morgan’s! Thanks for the useful information and answering my unask questions. Your project is progressing nicely.
Worsher machine is one of them things you put clothes in after you red up
Sw PA here also
Love those random acts of affection,,,
I think you also need to do the other side of the equation when considering the cost. The additional labor cost , owned equipment costs and the lost opportunity costs all should offset the rental side.
Imagine if Melissa spent that much on shoes! The new garage/rec room would be the storage for them all!
Another enjoyable vid. Thanks for sharing. Y'all have a great day.
With a month of rental time you can also dig out Melissa and Hunter's pool!
Good information! Planning your work is one of the best things you can do when renting equipment. By the way, it’s “warsher” in Indiana too.😄 Have a blessed day! Jason from Indiana.
What about adding, digging the pool, to the list of jobs to do while you have the machine? Is there any shall to mine where the pool will go?
Melissa, I noticed a hint of sadness when the pines came out, could have replanted them some where. We do our warsh in Tide, cause it to hot out Tide. PJ In O-HI-O
Had to start the video over Melissa so cute, smiling . Couldn’t pay attention to you.
Were both lucky to have beautiful, cute wives , mine just turned 55. I don’t believe her, she looks so young looking, and I’ll be 59 this year. Wait, 59, good gosh.
Enjoying your videos , thanks for sharing.
Mike. Can you replant the evergreens you took out ?????
I liked how you just snatched those evergreens right out of the ground. That was so cool. 👍🤣👍
If those were my stumps, and my land, I would place those stumps below the pond area that washed out. Good natural riprap. That is a nice excavator.
