Its just switching how we collect taxes. It would be implementation of a sales tax instead of an income tax. Which is beneficial to you as you need income you do not always need to buy something. The problem with this is we would have to start executing business differently. We would make our country a business instead of a state. It would work but to much would have to change for it to.

    • @mikecaetano

@@sandrapemberton6803 I don't need a degree in economics to know that every country on Earth levies tariffs on imported goods. Do you know what the tariffs are on US goods in Europe and Asia? Much higher than the average 1.52% US Tariff on imports. They average 20%. They seem to be doing quite well, considering they have a trade surplus with the US.
In addition to tariffs on US made goods, they also impose a special VAT to things like cars and trucks...As much as 180% in some countries. The Left screams about how great European economies are, but want to ignore the near bans on imports in those countries, simply by making imported goods out of reach for the average consumer.

Overall, prices increased almost 20 PERCENT during Joe Biden’s term! Has your paycheck increased by 20%? Inflation is not diminishing in 2024. Not good.
Average credit card rate - 24.37%, HIGHEST RATE IN 80 YEARS. ( 48% increase since Joe took office). Blomberg reported that the average FICO credit score declined for the first time in a decade.
Home interest rates have increased dramatically to 7.88%. (MAY 2024) ( 297%) INCREASE since Joe took office). 2023 - the worst year ever for housing affordability.
US mortgage applications for home purchases fell in April 2024, nearing its lowest level since 1995. (29 years ago).
Today we report that for at least 40% of Americans - up from 27% just two years ago - the American Dream is dead and buried and has been replaced with the American nightmare: renting for life. (Zerohedge.com) (April 2024).
The typical home price has risen 42% in the past three years,” says NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. I live with my parents - cannot afford a house.
The average new car interest rate in May 2024 was 7.91% for a 60-month loan. (89% INCREASE since Joe took office).
The rates of Americans behind on auto loan and credit card bills continue to rise - in fact, both are at the highest levels in more than 10 years.

Imposing tariffs also raises the prices of resources required for construction, fabrication, engineering, production, etc. - and raising those costs ... which ends up raising the costs of production and manufacturing ... which is passed on to the consumer (making for HIGHER PRICES) ... as well as potentially leading to lost jobs (because goods cost too much, businesses have to cut back or shutter). Tariffs only lead to severe economic depression for the country imposing them - especially in a free-market, capitalist world.

I know this is the tariff effect in reverse, but either way they're damaging. A few years ago, China put tariffs on Australian wine, barley, lobsters and a couple of other things. Those businesses struggled greatly and it took time to open up new markets elsewhere. China has now recanted and relations are somewhat improved, but it's a massive lesson of what can happen, as well as to not put all your eggs in one trade basket.
