Dwyane Wade - Postup Powerhouse

  • Dwyane Wade. 3x NBA champion. 2006 Finals MVP. 2x All-NBA First Team. 3x All-NBA Second Team. 3x All-NBA Third Team. 12x All-Star. 2010 All-Star Game MVP. 2009 scoring champion. 2008 Olympic Gold medalist. Miami Heat’s all-time leading scorer. In his final year in Miami, he attempted just 44 three pointers during the season, compared to the 1139 shots inside the arc (the third highest 2 point field goal attempts in the entire league), and finished 3rd in post touches and 5th in paint touches. That is to say that Dwyane Wade knows where his bread is buttered. While his efficiency in the post has waned a little with his athleticism, he’s still a sight to behold with his back the basket.
At 34 years of age, the Olympic Gold medalist averaged only 30.5 minutes per game through 74 games, but when it came time to be the man, he was in fine form. Each of Miami’s two playoff series went to 7 games, and Wade had his largest scoring output since 2010-2011, with 21.4 points per game (15th in the league for the postseason) and the 12th best Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of the entire playoffs.
The point of this video is to showcase what a special player Dwyane still continues to be. There’s something ageless about his postup game. He’s got every juke and jab, and pump and pivot in the book. His faceup game is lethal because he’s a midrange monster, and his footwork is phenomenal, so he can get to wherever he wants to go when he really gets down to it.

If there are big men who played like a guard. Wade is a guard played like a big man.

this is probably the best description of his game. I see him constantly posterize and block big men in the paint.

Kirby Augustine he short but hes always been 210-225ish. And he not skinny like moat 2 guards. He built more like an undersize 3.

I remember Bill Russell once said Wade plays like someone who is 6'9 or 6'10". Just one of the most unique players in NBA history. He was ridiculously strong with a 6'11" wingspan on a 6'4" frame. He was the designated rim protector for the Heat prior to the big 3 era according to Coach Spolestra. I don't think we'll ever see a guard operate as a rim protector in the near future if not ever again.

In the postup, if the defender took the slightest mistake in positioning his body, then DWade can either get close to the rim and score a lay up or dunk. or the defender will be left with a chase block which will result to Wade fishing a basket counted play.

Those are Hakeem style layups .
    Posting up is different.
You're in a set position when you get the ball and then you move to shoot.
Post is a area high and low on the floor.
But is not the same as posting up.

The guy is one of the all time great because he keeps evolving his game, if anyone who has followed wade his whole career, at first, he did not have his jumpshots and he worked his butt off with Spoelstra to have a consistent mid range pullup jumper and respectful 3 point range ability to keep the defense honest. Then after he got his jumpshots improved and evolved he got his postup game improved and evolved. He did not have his postup game uptil 2011 after they loss to dallas in the big 3 era. After that final loss, he and lebron has become a much better postup player. Even as great as Dwyane is during his 05,06,08-10 campaigns, he was basically a slasher and a mid range pullup shooter to have his points piled up. And u see his post game reli evolved from the start of the big 3 era to create the pace and space style for the Heat, with lebron improved postgame as well and with all the shooters around them, it makes this style lethal and and also raised their efficiency because they got their shots much closer to their baskets and from the inside and mid range area which is much more of their strength, i think his postup game has reli benefited him from the health and career standpoints because it puts much less pressure on his body when he can punish smaller defender on the block instead of always have to drive from the 3 points line and takes body blows from the big guys, also it makes him much harder to defend even though he is aging because even at his old age, he can still use his size and strength to postup and get to his sweet spot to score despite with his explosiveness gone and much reduced effectiveness slashing from outside. That's why he is an all-time great, not satisfying and keep evolving his game and even at his age, he is still one of the better player and scorer in the league and still have the ability to close out ball games due to his offense versatility.

    • @truthtruth9056
      @truthtruth9056 2 ปีที่แล้ว

He did have post game even in his early days, he just didnt use it often becaus he was a pure slasher but he was great and effective on posting up whenever he does.

  • @difeng7126

How can the undersized SG become a beast in the low post and have such a good post up game?
Just thanks to his incredible strength. Wade is one of the strongest SG in the league. He can even use his strength to bully some of the SFs, just incredible.
Both his upper and lower body are super strong.
The strong lower body makes his to move his defender, and more importantly, to make him jump very fast ----- Wade does not have a tremendous elevation but he can jump fast, which means his defender is still on the ground when he is already there in the air doing a fade away.
just look at Wade's butt. This is the combination of talent and great work in the gym.
Wade maybe has the strongest upper body among SGs. the toughest part of the post up game, maybe, is to lift the ball up and create the shoot. because the defender is always have their body on you and arms in the air. Wade uses his great upper body strength to create the space he needs for his shoot. The strong arms and incredible wingspan combined to make Wade the "postup Powerhouse"

Keep making these wade videos evin. Its crazy how I still argue with people that in terms of BASKETBALL MECHANICS he is still the best sg in the league. You have a strong case for leanord but don't bring up klay/Jimmy or anyone else at that position. He went 8/11 on Avery Bradley (Great defender) the other night. Klay has been running of screens shooting 3s trying to catch rhythm, Jimmy struggled and kwai Has EXCELLED (mvp and arguably best player in the game)
