Dwyane Wade - Defensive Dynamo 15/16

  • Dwyane Wade. 3x NBA champion. 2006 Finals MVP. 2x All-NBA First Team. 3x All-NBA Second Team. 3x All-NBA Third Team. 12x All-Star. 2010 All-Star Game MVP. 2009 scoring champion. 2008 Olympic Gold medalist. Miami Heat’s all-time leading scorer. 3x NBA All-Defensive Second Team. Dwyane Wade also stands at 6’4”, with 759 blocks for his career. The record for most career blocks by a player 6’4” or shorter was held by the late great Dennis Johnson, until Wade broke it with career block number 676. He is undoubtedly on of the greatest shot blocking guards the game has ever seen, his final year in Miami proving to be no exception. In the 2015-16 season, he registered the second most blocks for the Heat after Hassan Whiteside. Whether he’s Flash or Father Prime, Wade has always found a way to impress on the defensive end.
    Wade’s placement among the best shooting guards of all-time has long been argued. Some say he’s the third best shooting guard all-time, easy. Some disagree. What cannot be questioned, however, is the elite nature of his shot blocking ability. For the regular season, Michael Jordan (6’6”) had 893 blocks. Kobe Bryant (6’6”) had 640 blocks. Clyde Drexler (6’7”) had 719 blocks. Again, Dwyane Wade (6’4”) has 759 blocks for his career so far. For reference, LeBron James (6’9”) has 773 blocks. These numbers get more interesting when the postseason rolls around. Dwyane Wade has more career playoff blocks (166) than Jordan (158), Kobe (144), and Drexler (108). Yes, defense isn’t all about blocked shots, or even measurable stats, but the fact that at his height, Wade was able to so heavily impact the game on that front must be worth praise.
    I wanted to take a highlight some of Wade’s defensive abilities in his final year with Miami. I still cannot believe that the Heat organisation let him walk, but if there’s anywhere I wanted him to end up, well, let’s just say he’s somehow been one of the most beloved players in Chicago throughout his entire career despite eliminating the Bulls repeatedly in the playoffs. I love and have always loved Dwyane Wade’s game, so expect at least a few more videos on who I believe to be the third greatest shooting guard of all-time.

      Have you not watched Jimmy Butler (SG/SF)? Kawhi isn't a guard, but he is a perimeter player that plays great on both sides of the ball with poise. Same with LeBron. Same with Paul George. Chris Paul is in the league and still balling tf out playing both sides of the ball with great poise as a guard. And if you extend it out to big men, there are more that play great on both sides of the ball with great poise such as AD and Embiid. Eventhough Giannis has undeservingly been catching a lot of flak after the last 2 postseasons, he plays amazing on both sides of the ball and I think with great poise as well. Then there are several other players that play great on 1 side of the ball whether it's offense or defense and with poise (e.g. KD, Luka, Jokic, Curry, Kyrie, Spida Mitchell, Booker, Jamal Murray, etc. on offense and Draymond, Smart, Thybulle, Gobert, Myles Turner, etc. on defense). Some of those players that I just named were also good on the other side of the ball, just not great. I don't understand why some people try to rag on the new school.

      John Jones yes he did! He blocked Patrick Ewing the 7 footer center of New York Knicks back in the 90s. There is a video here in youtube. Go search it. Plus players back then were harder to block. Also search Jordan's block highlights.

    Thanks to his incredible wingspan super strong upper body among guards and great experience in defense, even wade is now 34 years old and short for the SG position, he can still block shoots and force steals. A great player, HOF, always the hero in my heart. Love u WADE!

    • @nostalgicbliss5547
      @nostalgicbliss5547 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Him being 6'4 actually gives him an advantage because of his lower center of gravity than a 6'6-6'8 wing player, plus the additional lateral quickness that mostly point-guards possess. Having a 6'10 wingspan is also massive, like you stated. Good strength, wing-span, high motor, great anticipation and great lateral quickness (especially when he was younger), makes him one of the best defensive guards of all time. If he didn't carry all that offensive load in his prime, he would have been in contention for defensive player of the year.

    Great video. Wade may no longer be the lockdown defender he once was in his prime but he is still a good defender who had his fair share of clutch moments last year. His 6'10" wingspan is unfathomable to think of considering he's a 6'4" SG. IMO, he's the 3rd best SG in today's league behind Harden and Butler.
    Miami still loves D-Wade!!! Our franchise's greatest player.

    Wade plays defense like Michael Jordan, a lot of reaches, grabs, and slaps. He has quick hands, but gambles a bit too much. That style works when you have a solid defender behind you, and your opponent KNOWS this and doesn't just walk by you.

      Myles Allen Klay defense is overrated and he's streaky as hell.

    • @Will-hg7dp
      @Will-hg7dp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** klay isn't better than WADE just yet. Wade is a better ball handler, rebounder, passer, better footwork, post defender, shot blocker, fadewaways, hooks.
      Klay is quicker on defense because he's younger , better mid range and 3 but can be very streaky and go on long SLUMPS as well. Those strengths I pointed out from wade he has yet to rely on. HE just shoots himself out of cold streaks and hopes one falls.
