Urf I remember my 4 years of synchro. Super hard and super dangerous yeah(still have light scars on my arms legs and face), but the bond you build with your team is so rewarding. I retired last year and the part I miss the most is my teammates and coach.
Thank you for the amazing synchro swimmers display, be safe and be blessed. Take care in water. Enjoy the music and art for yourself and as a team. Everything else is a bonus.
Did u also have to put gelatine stuff in ur hair? I did synchro for about 3/4 years and whenever we did comps or shows we'd have to put gelatine in our hair to keep it in a bun and it _stunk_ also wasn't very good as I'm vegetarian XD
as an ex-synchro swimmer, i didn’t realize how much effort higher levels had to put in, mad respect. Synchro is definitely a very difficult sport. My sister did synchro up until she graduated high school while i quit by middle school to pursue volleyball. For people who think that synchronized swimming is easy, watch the video the whole way through, think about painting scalding hot gelatin in your hair, the water slowly stinging your eyes and the hard work the swimmers go through to actually be able to be that good. With all of this, I really wish I wouldn’t have quit though, because you form an unbreakable bond with your teammates and coach, along with having so many fun and exciting moments with ups and downs along the way.
This is such a difficult sport. I commend them for even attempting it. These swimmers are fantastic. I don't know how they're able to make it look so effortless. That's a lot of hardwork and dedication
These rules aren’t really strict. It’s kinda sorta synchro culture. Even at my low level in synchro I know all of them. These “rules” are just the fundamentals to the sport
If your not from the UK we have grades, 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 ( even though nobody ever does 6 ) Then you can get bronze silver or gold as a pass (b-5.0, s-6.0, g-7.0) and anything below 5.0 is a fail. You can do teams with any grade but only silvers can do duets and solos!
Men are allowed now . This is a lie. Bill may just won the bronze medal in doha . Qatar. This info is very out dated. And those that ignore concussions are stupid
@@bitnaaaaaa but I understood that they lose points even if technical issues occure, for which they are not responsible. And even for what you said. They are only responsible for giving their music with instructions to the "sound master" (whatever he's called in english), not for him being an idiot and messing it up. I was professionally dancing on shows for many years, I can't count how many times that guy either played something completely different, didn't start when he was supposed to, stopped accidentally in the middle or any other nonsense, despite the fact that he always had strict written instructions even with timing etc., even though we tried it all out at the rehearsal. It's NOT their fault, unless their coach personally plays the music.
@@DragonsAreHungry not sure how it is in the big leagues but I’ve done a few “international” synchro competitions (mostly with other european teams) and the rule as far as i remember is if the wrong music starts, you can restart. if you jump in the water, you need to continue/ lose points. if any technical issues occur while performing your routine, you continue no matter what i think thats what the video was trying to say but maybe they worded it a bit weirdly
It depends on the level you are in. Masters competitions for example(for us old ladies and gents-men can swim in non Olympic competitions) are a bit more forgiving. At a National masters meet a few years ago, one team had the wrong music play and they swim to the wrong music anyways for fear of being docked points if they didn’t jump in. Thankfully, there were allowed to swim it again with the correct music and I don’t think they were docked any points.
Two of my close friends are synchronized swimmers and it's truly one of the hardest sports. I know one of them been doing it for at least 7-8 years and they are not that great as you would imagine. Almost had an underwater blackout happen to me while swimming in a heated pool by myself. Not taking into consideration that heated pools will knock u out 2x faster, I did a few laps of underwater presses. Something told me to stop but I continued to do one more. Half way to the end of the pool, an overwhelming calm came over me and my hearing started to fade. My instincts told me to stop and when I did I could barely make it to the side because my legs were numb and I could barely lift myself out of the pool. I sat there for about 10 mins trying to regain my senses. The crazy thing is that I was not out of breath and wasnt the least bit tired. I was literally seconds away from passing out. We had two guys on base die in a training tank doing exactly what I was doing and they BOTH blacked out and drowned. Never do any serious swimming without supervision
@@timstarkey3692 yeah but that doesnt make it better. male sports arent judged by make up, and its good that the female teams arent judged on that as well (even though they DO face online hate for 'not being pretty' and arent paid fairly, but thats another conversation). and for dances such as ballet or whatever, i understand. thats part of the performance. but you should never EVER have point deducted for not having makeup on. they even said theyre so far away from the judges that they cant hardly see them. so whats the point
We’re barely judged on makeup at all. You can wear little eyeshadow and lipstick and the score shouldn’t change. It’s only used to highlight the face so the judges can see better.
I'm late but nevermind I just wanted to say that make up and the swimsuit as well as the music are part of the artistic effect. Synchronized swimming is also art and it is important to convey a feeling with everything so if the make up doesn't match the music it'll feel weird watching the performance. But as it was said in a comment it actually don't bring you a lot of point. Also the make up is very big and bright so you can see it from far away

I absolutely hate being not able to breathe and get extremely tired when trying to do just front stroke so I have so much respect for synchronised swimmers.
I've loved watching synchronized swimming since I was a kid. It's probably one of the hardest sports to do, let alone compete at the national or international level. It's weird though that men are banned from doing it in the Olympics. They should change that. I think these ladies deserve way more respect as athletes and artists because what the create is pure magic ❤️
@mark navarro but it is a sport. This video literally showed the athletes swimming. It's also in the Olympics, there is nothing that could stop swimming from qualifying as a sport.
I've been doing synchro since I was in 1st grade. I'm on break right now (I was in a musical so I missed most of the winter competition stuff, and I may not even get to go back this summer because of Ms. Rona), and I really miss it! Just watching this video has reminded me of all the stuff I miss.
As a vet synchro, this is all true, training outside and in the water is strenuous and has to be perfect. Competition has 2 parts: chose of 1 group of exercises and 2 free exercises and the routines. Hard but FUN!
Horse riding is also pretty tough of how dangerous a sport is isn't a flex at all but it is pretty hard to control an animal that could easily kill you
I’m a synchronized swimmer and an extra noseclip is a must!!! One of my teammates noseclip’s snapped in the middle of performing causing a bit of panic and probably lost points.
Heather Scott It really is! You have to support your full body weight, keep your balance, literally throwing people in the air, etc. You’re not allowed to touch the ground at all. I’ve been doing it for 6 years now and I’m still not even that good at it.

My daughter made the GB selection, but had to give up to do her A Levels. There is no proper support for UK girls. You forgot about the underwater speakers for the girls to be able to count the music and be synchronized. Sometimes, the quality is so bad you can't even count and others, it breaks and the girls have to go on without being able to count the music underwater because stopping is not allowed unless the referee whistles. The ONLY moment they are allowed to stop is when they hear the whistle. The 10 seconds is from the moment the music starts until they dive in the pool. Other than that, they are allowed to make some kind of presentation before the music starts but not longer than 30 sec. The music length is fix and cannot be longer or shorter than 5 to 15 seconds depending on the choreography at play. There are other rules about bathing suits and the height of the hip cut but whatever.. :-) I wrote enough
@@never.give.up_06 nah, they think it's distracting or something. I mean like if everyone has matching nails that goes with the suit I don't see a problem.
I had to see these rules because I took synchronized swimming in college after learning how to swim. The teacher spoke about trying to get synchronize swimming to the olympics. We all thought that would be great. it is a very difficult sport. I take my hat off to these ladies. it is a reason why is called synchronize. One little mistake and it is noticeable.
Another rule: no long nails!!!! We always have to keep everything clipped. I have a 5-inch long scar on my leg from the ONE time one of my teammates didnt clip her toenails 😂
As a former synchronized swimmer I relate deeply with everything she says. It’s really hard but after all, the satisfaction you get when you are done, is the best thing!
Synchronised swimming is definitely up there as one of the toughest sports out there. Water volleyball too! Seriously impressive, especially these days now it’s so much more acrobatic. Can’t believe that men can’t compete in the Olympics in this era
I feel like the talko made it look a lot worse. I mean I got a concussion in synchronized swimming and I understand its more important for pro synchro swimmers but I feel like they made it seem like EVERY swimmer gets a 'life-changing' concussion
I think men should be allowed to compete at the Olympics as well! Why shouldn’t they get to compete and perform in the highest ranked competition in the world? Yes there’s world cups and whatnot but those types of competitions happens more often, an Olympic game is held every 4 years so a whole lot more prestige for someone to compete (and hopefully win a medal) in. Men can be just as good at synchro as women! There, I said it! #GenderEquality

Well, we're only three people, and that's me, and two kiddos that can't swim. Everyone ditched me before summer
Yup! When I practiced the sport, I was always leaving school early or traveling for competitions.. its a hard sport to keep up with, and an expensive one too at that!
I got an odd question. Do you find the sport is a lot kinder to your joints (long term) because you are in the water a lot?

Same, ex-synchro swimmer here! I did the same thing and left the sport to pursue horse riding competitively.
What grade are u?
If your not from the UK we have grades, 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 ( even though nobody ever does 6 )
Then you can get bronze silver or gold as a pass (b-5.0, s-6.0, g-7.0) and anything below 5.0 is a fail. You can do teams with any grade but only silvers can do duets and solos!

Wait but... it’s not the swimmers fault if the wrong song plays...
True...but plenty of judges don't care.
Yes it is, they choose the music they swim on, but if on a competition another teams song comes on they just can start again
@@DragonsAreHungry not sure how it is in the big leagues but I’ve done a few “international” synchro competitions (mostly with other european teams) and the rule as far as i remember is if the wrong music starts, you can restart. if you jump in the water, you need to continue/ lose points. if any technical issues occur while performing your routine, you continue no matter what
i think thats what the video was trying to say but maybe they worded it a bit weirdly

Never do any serious swimming without supervision

anyone else angry that they judged by their make up as well rather than just the sport alone
Not really. It happens in a lot of sport such as dance.

@mark navarro it is, but go off I guess
@mark navarro wth
@mark navarro what does that have to do with swimming
@mark navarro Why not?
@mark navarro but it is a sport. This video literally showed the athletes swimming. It's also in the Olympics, there is nothing that could stop swimming from qualifying as a sport.
This sport is definitely a difficult sport but it's so beautiful to see the women execute their routines in the water
As a synchro swimmer and international competitions, the Laxto Nose Clips are the best!

for skiiers in the chat knox is what Glen Plake also use for his wild mohawks in his early years.

For most teams they do concussion testing just in case you do get one
I’m so happy that’s there’s finally a video showing how challenging synchro is
I think men should be allowed to compete at the Olympics as well! Why shouldn’t they get to compete and perform in the highest ranked competition in the world? Yes there’s world cups and whatnot but those types of competitions happens more often, an Olympic game is held every 4 years so a whole lot more prestige for someone to compete (and hopefully win a medal) in.
