I watched that documentary & her coaches yelled & cussed at Mamun a lot, especially the dark-haired woman who is the head of the Russian federation. She was really nasty!
rhythmic gymnastics is so underrated. many people think it's boring and easy but it's just as much hard work and training as every other sport at the olympics, these women are seriously superheros
the “you’re not a normal human being, you’re an athlete” made me remember what my ballet teacher would yell at us during nutcracker season when we would be eating and doing homework during rehearsals 😂
Amen! My cuban choreographer was the person to stop the entire rehearse if she saw a thumb out of place and call us off if any of us had some kind of fast food for lunch
Unfortunately this is why there is A LOT of eating disorders in gymnastics and ballet. It’s really unfortunate cos I love both sports soo much but I had to leave due to anorexia.
FR!!!! one time I had homework due the next day and my ballet teacher got mad at me for doing it in the studio. Not even during rehearsal but just the fact that I was doing my homework in the studio.
I remember when I was 5 or 6 that I used to be a gymist, I would be at the gym 5 days a week. But only practicing 3-4 hours a day, I remember one day we just stoped going. I used to ask my mom when the next time we could go to the gym, but she always got a sad look on her face and said "Soon, Mejá." 6 years later, I found out that my parents stoped bringing me to the gym because we couldn't afford it. Having 4 other siblings I understood, I'm still a bit sad because I love gymastics, but I'm not able to compete. I'm very grateful to my parents though, since now I'm a rockclimber.
Oh girl, I went through a similar situation. It's sad that rg it's so expensive, specially when you are at a competition level. Nevertheless, the experience will always be remembered. Great that you find another great sport to do. ♥
u have a really wonderful attitude tho :) im glad u were grateful nonetheless rather than complaining. shows how mature u were lol. u seem like a great person !
I used to be a rhythmic gymnast until at the age of 12, I had to train 3 times more than the rest of my team and had to suffer constant verbal abuse from my former trainer, to the point where even though I loved the sport, I couldn't help but leave it in the middle of the nationals competitions because my coach was being so unreasonable that I could have injured myself forever, more than I already am after leaving the sport. Mind you that I wasn't a bad gymnast, far from it, I actually had a talent for it, but the teacher thought that because of it it was ok to push a girl to train 5 sometimes 6 days a week for 6 hours per day while also forbidding me from taking part in any other activities outside of the sport. I also had a body that was perfect for the sport and that gave her another excuse to torture me physically to the point where even though I already trained 5 hours daily, she made me do 1 hour of strength training both before and after, and forced me to sleep in a position which would help improve even more my already too lax flexibility, resulting in various dislocations and more than one scare visit to the hospital. I still love the sport and find it extremely beautiful, but hate that coach. I later discovered that the year after I left, she was banned from the association after a friend of mine told them what she did to me and how much she pushed me when I didn't even compete internationally. I now have a back injury that can't be fixed but improved, and still wake up some days with some of my limbs misplaced and some articulations out of their sockets, my body clacks overtime I make a move and I can't relieve the pain with stretching because it only helps to separate my arms, legs and fingers from my torso. Overall, the sport in itself is not at fault, but the people behind it are the ones that made it be what is seen like today. I actually think this video is putting the picture more pretty than it is.
i am so sorry to hear all of this! it's such a shame some coaches push their gymnast this hard for basically no reason. i hope your inuries will get better and less bothering. Good to know she got banned but it's sad that she still "took you out"... ❤️
I also quit at 12, I cried for the whole year after I quit. I loved this sport so much. But my parents always supported me. I was going bad at school and I barely eat and play.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I quit at 14, and actually related to some of the things you wrote. I definitely agree that this video doesn't cover a lot of what really goes on behind the scenes. RG can often be a very toxic environment and is both extremely physically and mentally demanding. Rooting for you and your recovery:)
The coaches have a big part of how good some sports are. I am aesthetic group gymnast and our team have good coach so I like the sport very much also bc of that. but I have been in training camps where we have had some horrible coaches who were mean and said mean things to uss when someone did something wrong. So it is important to have a good coach
lil Believer ik I am a rhythmic gymnast and there are rules for the smallest thing like don’t let your apparatus touch your body or the floor after a AD or risk
What the hell you’re saying at the begging😂 being a RUSSIAN athlete makes it HARDER to make it into the sports, because the competition is CRAZY. Moscow athletes have to apply for other citizenships, that’s the only way they can compete at the international level, because there can be only 2 girls from a country Nevertheless thank u a lot for the video, so happy you popularize this sport, it really worth it👍🏻❤️
Mary Poppins actually I personally know a Russian who represents Canada although she is from Moscow 😅 also there was a girl who represented France but I don’t remember the name ) nevertheless you are right - they usually perform on behalf Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other former soviet republics
Did you mention they have to endure torturous training methods that are borderline physical abuse? Or that they have to get through being downright insulted (including curse words and fecal language) by their coaches? That they are pretty much conditioned to never defend themselves/talk back against that? Terrifyingly, this is true. And it still has me upset, even though I quit this sport at the age of 9 years.
Especially in Russia and Ukraine this happens. It’s really sad cos these athletes are usually very young children! There was a study into the lives of former pro Russian gymnasts and by the age of 30 nearly all of them had serious issues with their hips, arthritis in multiple areas along with others pains and injuries that no 30 year old should have. The even worse thing is that this type of abuse isn’t needed to get to the Olympics level. Look at Simone Biles! She hasn’t endured any of that yet she is the best female gymnast to ever live.
Honestly it depends on the coach though. Many coaches believe the only way to teach is through abuse and tortuous training methods because that is what they have been taught. But there are decent coaches out there, I've had one, they are just harder to find.
I absolutely love rythmic gymnastics. I discovered it pretty late and I started with 11. I was not bad but many girls were of course better than me. With 18 I entered the university team and I was so proud, we made competitions in vaarious cities. I wanted to train hard to improve myself. But at some point my trainer made me feel constantly bad, not good enough. When it was my turn to train, she would tell me to leave the "carpet" (I don't know how to say it in english) for my teammates because "they had more chances to win a medal"... I could never progress because of that, despite my motivation. Eventually I stopped , I felt that I was not welcome anymore by the coach.
I was in RG for 10 years and then I moved away. This sport is so hard, mentally and physically. The trainers can get to a point where they will curse u and make u feel bad. After I moved I felt like I lose everything I wanted. I wasn’t interested in any other sport. Even tho it was hard it helped me in many ways and it made me stronger. I competed while being injured and to be honest, it made me stronger and every time I injure myself I just forget about the pain and keep going. In my opinion it’s harder than dance because there are all the hoops balls clubs ribbons and ropes.
My story is a little similar. I gave up on rg, when I was 12, because it was too exhausting for me. Besides, I was really weak comparing to other girls, but I still think it's my biggest mistake. This sport gave me freedom and strength and even though I'm not an athlete anymore I enjoy watching it as a fan.
!ATTENTION! Please stop saying "traditional" or "real" gymastics for artistic gymnastics cause it makes it seam like it's "more important" or "better" or even "harder" than rg! Also ppl are often Like "oh you do rg i do the "real gymastics", I bet I can do whatever you can in Like 5 min!" No! Stop that don't say something is "easy" or "simple" without even trying it, and not just for rg but for any sport or anything at all! Please! Please, Listen to me!😫😣 Edit: This is the most likes I've ever gotten thank You for the likes and understanding😊💙 Edit 2: Some people were confused so let me clear this up- i quoted people saying they can do everything in 5 mins, i didn't say u could, infact that's what I'm tired of😂
both sports are equally hard and important, i have friends who train in “traditional” gymnastics, rythmic gymnastics, and acro gymnastics, so i know they all work really hard
@@buckowens6 yeah ok, BUT the only olympic medal you can get is in all aroud, sho if you want to be succeful you have to be equally good with all 4appararatus, att he international level there aren't specialist, pratically the gymansts who are better at the AA they are are the ones who grab at world cuo, ech,wch apparatus finals
@LeahMc20 good luck for your competitions this year! To clarify, I was referring to Senior International (and Junior I) gymnasts, as these are regulated by FIG - national/regional/local RG governing bodies have their own rules (e.g., I'm from NZ and we have set apparatus for levels but can usually choose which routines to perform at comps where we represent our school rather than club or region) :)
Let me clarify some things as a former rhythmic gymnast: 1. Russia (or other slavic countries) usually win because the USSR invented the sport. not just cause they're russian. 2. You have to compete in all apparatuses, regardless of which is your favorite. 3. The trainings are HARD, and im surprised the video didn't mention it too much. Although I spent most of my training in the US, when I visited russia, I went for a summer camp and was considered the most undertrained person there (considering that I was about average when It came to my training in the USA). This was at age 10 or 11. If you want to learn more about the types of training, please do your research because It's a lot to talk about. 4. You have to have a certain amount of skills within each routine. Skills include turns, leaps, tosses (if there is an apparatus), and more. you also have to have some dance elements. 5. When it comes to the cost, it is EXTREMELY expensive. 1 leotard (like a good quality one that has bling and all that jazz) can cost 250+ dollars. Usually one leotard is reserved for one or two apparatuses. Remember, there are 5 (including rope). This means that you should at least have 2-3 leotards, this is bare minimum. You can always have 5. Thats 500-750 dollars for JUST costumes. Now the apparatuses, a ball can cost from 40-200+ dollars depending on the one you get (reminder, the ball and any other apparatus has to match with the leotard and music for that routine, otherwise points get taken off). Clubs can also cost from 40-200+. This is not counting that sometimes you have to decorate your clubs so that they match the leotard. There's a special tape used to tape them in the colors you want. Buying the tape can cost 40+ if you are taping it yourself and if you use multiple colors. If you hire someone to do it for you, thats another expense. A hoop can cost between 40-200+, and most people have a hoop cover which can cost 20-40 dollars. Also, you 99% of the time have to tape your hoop because they usually come in plain white, so thats 20-40 if you're DIY-ing it. Ropes are a bit cheaper, ranging from 15-40$. Of course you can find more expensive ones as with any leotard or apparatus, but thats the basics. Now ribbons, I personally have not used a ribbon since I quit the sport before reaching the level where I can use one, so this price is based off of google. Ribbons usually cost $50+. Sometimes you have to dye them to get the colors you want, so thats an added expense, I'm not sure exactly how much but probably $15+ for the type of dyes. Now we can get to footwear. In rhythmic gymnastics there are specific half-toe sock type of things that I call toe-shoes. They are usually the color of your skin tone and can be made from leather or fabric. The leather ones last longer. In russia they are super cheap, and I'm pretty sure most of the things here you can find there are half the price because a lot of things listed here are imported from russia (if you buy from good, reputable companies.) toe shoes can cost $10+. I think I listed everything in terms of costs. This does not include hair, makeup, competition fees, travel fees to get to the competition, paying coaches for training, inclusing private training (because you usually train in a group unless you go big like the olympics) and etc. I can infer that all these things cost more than a thousand dollars. This is just for a regular club, nothing special like the olympics. just like a reg dance studio, except gymnastics. Of course you can find things cheaper than what I listed here, but you have to get equipment that is approved by the FIA...FIG...?? IDK I forgot the acronym but you get it, it has to be approved by the government association thing for rhythmic gymstastics. Also in terms of leotards, you definetely can find something cheaper, I just listed the amount my family payed because they wanted ✨quality✨and✨bling✨. Also they were literally made in russia so thats why there were expensive. If you have any questions feel free to reply, I'll try to answer to the best of my abilities. ALSO, EDIT: *In terms of rules, skills, and all the stuff I mentioned before the prices, things have changed. Now judges look for more skill based routines, which means a lot of dance elements are skipped. I'm basing this off of performances given my Olympic champions, idk how it's done locally. Just wanted to let ppl know in case it interested you.*
@@kdramaloverboy6223 For me it was about 2 hours at a time, 3 times a week, but for professionals it can easily be 9-10 hours per day. At my studio we started with stretching, then moved on to routines for about an hour and a half, then the last 30-20 minutes we did conditioning, which is basically like a warm up but at the end. We also had 30 minutes of ballet afterwards, but I'm not sure if other places do that. Rhythmic gymnastics tends to use some ballet terms so it's pretty useful to take a class along with your training.
@@comicsans2270 Thank you very much for this information. You know in my country there are no RG gyms😣😔, but I really like it so I'm training myself. But training is really hard yet I'm my own coach. Imagine if I had a coach, okay my mum helps me with stretching sometimes but still most of the time it's me doing my training. I totally understand when you say training is hard coz starting with the cardio, the stretching, the conditioning, everything is hardwork. I wish RG was more rated. It's real athleticism. But why did you quit?
In Japan they consider it as male rhythmic gymnast. There is also another male individual rg with different apparatus, for example two little hoops. In Spain male rg is like female, with hoop, rope, ribbon, clubs and ball.
If they won medals/fame, they're grateful for that haha finally able to rest. They can become coaches, eat food they couldn't before, listen to their bodies...
Pink Milk It’s not about that. It’s about training for so long, enduring so much pain, to do something you love, just to retire very young. Unfortunately, it’s due to health. If one would train so hard being 20, one could get serious injuries and health problems.
Yeah I did it too from the age 3 to 12 . Now i realize that being yelled at by a Russian teacher 2 hours a day 6 days a week was not normal. I'm really glad i quit
Thanks for talking about rhythmic gymnastics and how it deserves more recognition! Also Mamun’s coach was being 0% problematic compared to viner (the lady with the suits and hats who looks like she’s hating everything) is known for calling gymnasts names, not letting them eat properly and sometimes even being physically abusive...and sadly many other coaches are too.
zaripova was strict, but i always get the feelinf of sincere carre and love toward mamun,i mean even now after 3 years mamun call her second mom, and amina call her daughter, you could see evn in the movie the maternal care sometimes
Thats pathologic narcissistic "maternal love". Please wake up! There are good coachs deserving more credit and support but some gymnastics are too much into the toxic relationships for years that they got completely blind..the older ones should to Help and soeak out ofganized with lawyers and parents (the good and healthier ones who really care the mental and physically health of their own girls!)and prevent this continue happening.
@@caroldelosangeles3621 hahaha fire the best coach of all time? I would like to see you in charge of that, it would be a chaos of condescending treatment, laziness and hedonism.
I was in this sport competitively for 3 years as a kid and I can personally attest that the coaches are absolutely brutal. The mental strength and stability isn’t just important for competitions, though that is a crucial time, but also for all of the screaming coming from your coaches. I had one coach who would regularly yell at her own daughter to a point where her child was in tears. We were only 6 years old. You also had to be ridiculously flexible to be coached well. If you didn’t have all your splits by age eight they would essentially drop you. It didn’t matter how well you could use a rope or how compelling you made a routine look, this was the aspect they focused on most. I have a medical condition that made my hips inflexible and it took me a much longer time to get my splits, but I still used the apparatuses well. Despite this the coaches stopped paying attention to me even after I got my splits and I had to change clubs. It seems that a lot of people think that rhythmic gymnasts achieve those crazy tricks once they are brought into a provincial or even national circuit, but really they’ve been doing most of the basic moves since they were eight or nine. This sport is brutal when you don’t have the right coach and a great support system not to mention the thousands of dollars needed for transport, lessons, and costumes. If I ever have kids I would never let them take this to the competitive level let alone the provincial one I got to.
The same thing with flexibility happened to me with dance and cheer! I was extremely good with technique and tumbling and everything. I was pretty flexible but not the most. Coaches stopped giving me attention and eventually gave up on me just because I couldn’t get my skills on my left side after only training my right in dance for years
Thats pathologic narcissistic "maternal love".
Narrator can't even be bothered to pronounce her last name right, lol. She's the best gymnast for me and definitely the best from last quad. For the TheTalko to not include her clips means they haven't done enough research on the sport.
@@darkmatter5424 True. This video is for non fans and they probably can't name any of the random gymnasts shown performing. Except that counting WC, ECh, EG, and OG, Yana has 26 golds and only 4 silvers. And some gymnasts in this video hasn't even accomplished half of what she did. Just a bit disappointing, that's all.
This was about RG not Yana. I love Yana and I would’ve loved to see her in the video but she’s not the only great gymnast that didn’t mention in the video. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I was a RG mom for many years. I was also a judge. I believe you mis-spoke at around 10 min. when you indicated the ribbon must be a maximum 3 feet long.
I am rhythmic gymnast and I can say that some rules must be changed. The pressure that we feel during practice is too much. I loved the video it really well made ❤️🥰💖
I mean don’t get too upset it’s actually pretty hard (not that hard but some people just suck at pronouncing names) but yea she really was an amazing gymnast
There is no such thing as “full points”. For every skill you are given a certain amount of points for (depending on the skill) and then you get points deducted for execution (falling out of a skill - dropping the apparatus. Then all added together to get a final score. There isn’t a maximum score.
No rivalry? Don't kid yourself. I can't speak for all athletes but as a former rhythmic gymnast I can tell you that below the so called team spirit there's a deadly serious competition where people will do almost anything to win. It's the nature of individual sport.
i started rythmic gymnastics when i was five, and quite less that a year an a half later, they were too harsh on us. i was trained with the younger groups so i was lucky in that way. but we would practice at the same time as the older girls. i could constantly hear the coaches screaming at the girls. who were between the ages of 11 and 17. it was awful. not to mention my coaches never communicated with us. and we never knew what was happening.
Love the Russian twins. Such beauty! You left out the mandatory deduction these gymnasts face if a bra strap is visible (assuming they wear them - those costumes are pretty form fitting).
Sec. 5 of the COP; undergarments in general should not be visible beyond the seams of the leotard, but it's not a *mandatory* deduction. Judges discretion of 0.3 ded. once per exercise. Never seen that deduction happen in 15 years of competing though.
They can use a nude bra who is normally a special bra for ballet, they can't use panties, the leotard it's adapted for that, but if it's really needed (period ) they usually use special nude ballet panties :)
Pretty Reckless Thanks for your clarification. This must be a change - because several gymnasts inadvertently exposed their bra straps at the sport’s inaugural Olympic appearance at the 1984 L.A. Games. Each received an automatic deduction for this “flaw.”
The lack of Yana Kudryavtseva in the performance clips is unsettling when she's certainly the best rhythmic gymnast from the last quad and one of the best ever.
One of my former classmates started gymnastics (not rhythmic but the most mainstream one) at 2 years old. She's amazing now, 10 years later, but it's crazy how early they have to start. I started at 8, and in 2 years got to doing front handsprings on Floor but quit just after because of how mean the coaches are. I fell off the beam and hurt my back so much that I started crying, "You're not hurt, don't cry!! Get back up and keep learning!" I refused to continue learning that skill for a long time, leading for me to have to repeat level 7 way too many times. During summer camp when we had to come every day: "Why didn't you come yesterday? You were sore? We were all sore, get over it!" I was so sore that I couldn't stand up. No way could I go to gymnastics!
Those coaches are awful! As a coach it's my job to encourage and guide, not abuse and neglect. Also the mainstream one is artistic gymnastics. There's also acrobatic, trampoline, aerobic, mixed age, and even more.
YES absolutely. this sport should definitely be more respected because of everything listed here! These athletes are hella tough! I did a similar sport growing up (colorguard) and i thought THAT was tough. Seeing that many rhythmic gymnasts go thru this is similar to what i felt but its waaaaaaaay more intense
I AM training rhythmic gymnastics for seven years now , it is hard , I broke my arm thousand times but I love it 🥰 my trainer is from Russia and she start to training at 4 years old
I have a strong mind but weak body I get hurt easily but I have low pain tolerance and experience is always key. Train your pain tolerance eat a lot stay healthy get all the experience you can get don't give up when you go down you can get up once again and that is called learning. Wow I do have the power of intelligence.
"Eventhough Arina and Dina are twins they have their own preferences..." Twins aren't one human with the same preferences, interests and talents. They are different people like normal siblings...
It also depends on what Gymnastics you do. Theres rhythmic, artistic, acrobatic, trampoline and probably even more. Its so annoying, in my country artistic is so rewarded but for example trampolining and rhythmic are not even getting any money for comps or even training. Although artistic gymnasts get cars and everything.
I have been waiting for this video for like forever. I am a boy who likes RG with all my heart but there is no RG school in my country ,Uganda. I wish I could do RG.
Rythmic Gymnastics is so hard. I did it until about 11 years old (from 4/5). I did competitions as well, but not huge ones. Even though it was a hobby, I had to train for 10 years a week and I f*cked up my joints because I did it while growing so much....
I'm a really soft person who cannot function under pressure and thats the reason I gave up RG before even starting the part where they start performing in front of judges
So they can’t compete until the 1st of January of their 16th year, but also retire in their early 20s? That’s 2 shots tops at the Olympic Games in their entire lives!
These aren’t really important rules but you aren’t allowed to wear earrings or nail varnish and every time the judges see you not on releve you get points deducted 💕
Ok. If rhythmic gymnastics can be part of the Olympics, dance should be included too. And the argument about "dance is an art and can't be judged" is complete bull shit. Are you telling me dance competitions are illegitimate? I thought the Prix ballet competitions were supposed to be super prestigious? But yet dance still can't be judged apparently. Tell me how that makes sense.
i have several anxiety and i did rythmic gymnastics for 7 years. i was on top of my game won medals etc.. but my teachers didnt help at all. i was very anxious and scared going to practice and i'd cry when i went back home. Then on my 8th year I left. i loved rythmic gymnastics and i still do, i love watching performances and all of that but i dont thinm i will ever go back to gymnastics. I have been playing tennis for almost 2 years and i won medals in tennis too, and our teacher is so kind and we have a lot of fun me and my best friend.
Plus I am only nine and because of the flexibility I wish to go to ballet and I thought that I wasn't flexible enough so I over exercise and that led me to more pain than ever so I couldn't do anything from gymnastics but it was a while ago so I can do it again...
Martiné Cilliers my coach once looked at my almost anorexic friend and said “aww I love you my little cookie” then she turned to me and said “you too, my cookie with extra butter”. She called me fat while calling me a cookie at the same time hahahahahahga 😭
Each gym training price/3 hours:$90 Shoes:$80(from sasaki or chacott) if extensive training,5times a week, you need at least 4 pairs a year. Hoop:$100 (u need to buy a new hoop if you grow taller) Ball:$60-80(for simple ones) Ribbon(including stick):$100 Rope:$50-60 Clubs:$100 ( all these prices stated are before shipment as not all countries have sasaki and chacott (rgym brands) I know these prices as I am a rhythmic gymnast myself and I have been training for 7 years already.still wanna do rhythmic gym?
I have experienced how hard it is I am a rhythmic gymnast it's really hard to practice 8 hours a day even we practice whole day when competitions are nearby I am an international player I went to Dubai for competition and won 2 bronze,3 gold it was pretty hard but I made it I got injured too but I didn't loose hope and went on
I used to be an rhythmic gymnast but it was my moms dream not me she enroll me when i was 3 and i quit when i was 7 . I did met Izzah Amzan when i was 5 to 6 bc it was like a one week mentor and mentee program kinda . Izzah never gives up continue to make Malaysia proud . Love from Sabah, Malaysia.
Please do a video with rules that pole dance sport athletes have to follow. There are so many and very strict plus you can find a lot of video footage from competitions such as the IPSF, PSO, Pole Art etc. Maybe this could also help get over the stigma around it :)
I was a rhythmic gymnast from age 4-10 and it was hell...I had to wear revealing bodysuits which were EXTREMELY uncomfortable, I had to ALWAYS have my hair in a tight bun and one time I was at a competition (I was 8) and I told my couch “I don’t like hairspray though” because it’s unhealthy and it feels terrible but she said “just a little, it’s beauty”. I had to endure my parents screaming at me when I put my hair in a ponytail. At just 8 years old my face was coated in makeup. Eyeliner, lipstick, everything. I also had to stretch a LOT and it was often extreme and painful for me to do, but I was criticized for not being flexible. I was under constant pressure to be pretty and talented, and I often compared myself to the other young girls. I finally convinced my parents to take me out of it, and I am a lot less stressed. Rhythmic gymnastics is basically just a beauty pageant
I am a ryghtmic gymnast. And it is not that Easy how it looks it is super hard. I train gymnastics every single day. I am training gymnastics for 7 years. And now i can do a lot of realy cool tricks!
I admire people who love so much their art/sport that much! Like, training is hard and stressful and you must put aside a lot of things but they do it because they love what they do.

@@aquafinner1505 Thank you so much! I've been getting alot of crap from people lately and this helped me alot! Thank you for making my day better!
@@aquafinner1505 Also I've never been called mature before, I'm only 13 so it's an odd but good feeling 😅
You should try training at home lots of people do it in quarantine I even taught my self how to do the splits, cartwheel, back bend and a lot more
I used to be a rhythmic gymnast until at the age of 12, I had to train 3 times more than the rest of my team and had to suffer constant verbal abuse from my former trainer, to the point where even though I loved the sport, I couldn't help but leave it in the middle of the nationals competitions because my coach was being so unreasonable that I could have injured myself forever, more than I already am after leaving the sport.
Nerea Archiles that is really true I am an RG as well and got verbally abused because of what my mom said
I also quit at 12, I cried for the whole year after I quit.
The funny thing is, *those aren't even the strictest rules there are* ;*)
Wait what the H
weight and height requirements. There is a chart in russian that shows how much you should weight at what height. 160 cm 40kg. Not normal
Ikr 😭 I used to go 7 years
lil Believer ik I am a rhythmic gymnast and there are rules for the smallest thing like don’t let your apparatus touch your body or the floor after a AD or risk
Agreed
What the hell you’re saying at the begging😂 being a RUSSIAN athlete makes it HARDER to make it into the sports, because the competition is CRAZY. Moscow athletes have to apply for other citizenships, that’s the only way they can compete at the international level, because there can be only 2 girls from a country
Nevertheless thank u a lot for the video, so happy you popularize this sport, it really worth it👍🏻❤️
yah but they still put more money and help into the training so russian athletes are still more likely to win
They’ve got quite a few countries to choose from 🤣 bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, ect
Mary Poppins actually I personally know a Russian who represents Canada although she is from Moscow 😅 also there was a girl who represented France but I don’t remember the name ) nevertheless you are right - they usually perform on behalf Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other former soviet republics
kitty cat a good point but it’s still much harder to perform at the international competitions
L D that’s so funny. Can’t say I blame the girls though. And they get to experience a different country, so it’s a win for everyone 😂
Very true!
Yes spot on!
Yes! Very true. I love my sport and my coach but sometimes she gets very angry.
Eventually I stopped , I felt that I was not welcome anymore by the coach.
i completely understand you, although im only 9 i have been yelled at a lot of times. dont let them make you feel down!
In my opinion it’s harder than dance because there are all the hoops balls clubs ribbons and ropes.
same i was doing it for 10 years too but i got so tired and quit but i miss it too much
My story is a little similar. I gave up on rg, when I was 12, because it was too exhausting for me. Besides, I was really weak comparing to other girls, but I still think it's my biggest mistake. This sport gave me freedom and strength and even though I'm not an athlete anymore I enjoy watching it as a fan.
I did gymnastics too not rhythmic but artistic I injured my back on one side then injured the other side in a competition
Please! Please, Listen to me!😫😣
Edit: This is the most likes I've ever gotten thank You for the likes and understanding😊💙
Edit 2: Some people were confused so let me clear this up- i quoted people saying they can do everything in 5 mins, i didn't say u could, infact that's what I'm tired of😂
Yes!!!
both sports are equally hard and important, i have friends who train in “traditional” gymnastics, rythmic gymnastics, and acro gymnastics, so i know they all work really hard
PERIODT!
They're have different skills too. Those are equally beautiful, but different kind of sports!
THANK YOU !!!
Slightly misleading about apparatus - while gymnasts are free to have a favourite, gymnasts must compete in all 4 apparatus.
Not all the time. I am a Special Olympics rhythmic gymnast and at provincials this year I will only be competing in clubs and hoop.
Let me clarify some things as a former rhythmic gymnast:
Thank you a lot for this. Btw, how long is a training session? And how is it structured?
@@kdramaloverboy6223 For me it was about 2 hours at a time, 3 times a week, but for professionals it can easily be 9-10 hours per day. At my studio we started with stretching, then moved on to routines for about an hour and a half, then the last 30-20 minutes we did conditioning, which is basically like a warm up but at the end. We also had 30 minutes of ballet afterwards, but I'm not sure if other places do that. Rhythmic gymnastics tends to use some ballet terms so it's pretty useful to take a class along with your training.
Do you have IG? I want to see some of your performances :)

Yes, only that one with ribbon and ball are male rhythmic gymnast
In Japan they consider it as male rhythmic gymnast.
There is also another male individual rg with different apparatus, for example two little hoops.
In Spain male rg is like female, with hoop, rope, ribbon, clubs and ball.
So true, am a male rythmic gymnast and i can't go to any big competition (europian championchips, russian championchips, olympics games ...)
Imagine Training every day for 15 years just to retire at 19 or 20
If they won medals/fame, they're grateful for that haha finally able to rest. They can become coaches, eat food they couldn't before, listen to their bodies...
Well that's our reality 😂
It can be very dangerous to do rythmic gymnastics after 20
They can go to university and switch back to normal life?
Pink Milk
It’s not about that. It’s about training for so long, enduring so much pain, to do something you love, just to retire very young. Unfortunately, it’s due to health. If one would train so hard being 20, one could get serious injuries and health problems.
I acually did rhythmic gymnastics its like awhole crazy thing its veryyyyy strict

Please put a discharge on police to this coaching and at the federation of the sport. Dont consent any kind of abuse . Please!!!
Same, i did competitive for 8 years, i quit 2 years ago for similar reasons
This is a burning money sport
The same thing with flexibility happened to me with dance and cheer! I was extremely good with technique and tumbling and everything. I was pretty flexible but not the most. Coaches stopped giving me attention and eventually gave up on me just because I couldn’t get my skills on my left side after only training my right in dance for years
Thats pathologic narcissistic "maternal love".

Why Yana wasn't shown performing? She was one of the best gymnast from history :(
Narrator can't even be bothered to pronounce her last name right, lol. She's the best gymnast for me and definitely the best from last quad. For the TheTalko to not include her clips means they haven't done enough research on the sport.
Yes and what about kinsley
For non-fans, silver doesn't count for greatness.

I am rhythmic gymnast and I can say that some rules must be changed. The pressure that we feel during practice is too much. I loved the video it really well made ❤️🥰💖

Disappointed that you didn’t bother to learn how to pronounce the name of Yana Kudryavtseva, one of the greatest gymnast ever...
Doesn’t really matter
Es re complicado
I mean don’t get too upset it’s actually pretty hard (not that hard but some people just suck at pronouncing names) but yea she really was an amazing gymnast
There is no such thing as “full points”. For every skill you are given a certain amount of points for (depending on the skill) and then you get points deducted for execution (falling out of a skill - dropping the apparatus. Then all added together to get a final score. There isn’t a maximum score.
thats akward other sports have a standard for reason. while ones that relie on scores like this.
That opening talk

So underrated 😭😭😭
And it's easier if you're Russian 🤣🤣🤣
depends on the club. actually it's harder because there are so many good gymnasts because they have so many good coaches.

I'm confused, why is there almost nothing about Kudryavtseva in this material?
Me too I was waiting for Kudryavtseva to be mention
No rivalry? Don't kid yourself. I can't speak for all athletes but as a former rhythmic gymnast I can tell you that below the so called team spirit there's a deadly serious competition where people will do almost anything to win. It's the nature of individual sport.
Ewww where did you live? In my country this was never the case, everyone helped each other, even from dofferent clubs
i started rythmic gymnastics when i was five, and quite less that a year an a half later, they were too harsh on us. i was trained with the younger groups so i was lucky in that way. but we would practice at the same time as the older girls. i could constantly hear the coaches screaming at the girls. who were between the ages of 11 and 17. it was awful. not to mention my coaches never communicated with us. and we never knew what was happening.
That’s horrible I feel so bad honestly.. also are you still flexible ?
I've been waiting for this like

Gorgeous RG leotards - facebook.com/i.merlova/
we're allowed to use "underleotards" which are like ballet leotards but as long as it is nude
”You are not a human being, you are an athlete.” is not inspireing
The lack of Yana Kudryavtseva in the performance clips is unsettling when she's certainly the best rhythmic gymnast from the last quad and one of the best ever.
Thank you Talko! I've been waiting for this video since forever! I'm also a rhythmic gymnast and I'm from Canada. I love your videos so much!
Ribbons are supposed to be min. 5m for juniors and min. 6m for seniors. Most ribbons come with an extra 20 cm so they won't get to short.

This is a YEAR LATER and if you didn’t know Linoy Ashram won the gold medal and the ROC came 2nd and 4th also love ur vids 💕
I fell off the beam and hurt my back so much that I started crying,
"You're not hurt, don't cry!!
There's also acrobatic, trampoline, aerobic, mixed age, and even more.
no pain no gain

I have a strong mind but weak body I get hurt easily but I have low pain tolerance and experience is always key. Train your pain tolerance eat a lot stay healthy get all the experience you can get don't give up when you go down you can get up once again and that is called learning. Wow I do have the power of intelligence.
"Eventhough Arina and Dina are twins they have their own preferences..."
Twins aren't one human with the same preferences, interests and talents. They are different people like normal siblings...
I’m a rhythmic gymnast and I can say that all of this is true and there is even more strict rules
Like?
This is why I don’t do gymnastics. I have a lot of respect for people with this much commitment
Pizzachu 21 I just don’t do rhythmic gymnastics I do Artistic gymnastics! (regular gymnastics)
Is it because of the rules that you don't do gymnastics?
I have mad respect for everyone who deos Rhythmic Gymnastics. I absolutly adore the bright and shiny costumes too!
I am a rhythimic gymnast, i just realized how much i cry because of this sport
Me too
I quite literally come home crying everyday because of it
I have been waiting for this video for like forever. I am a boy who likes RG with all my heart but there is no RG school in my country ,Uganda. I wish I could do RG.
there's a very small amount of boys who do it & no boys are allowed in the olympics
As a rhythmic gymnast, my favorite apparatuses are hoop and ball.
my fav. r the clubs!
My fav are the clubs and hoop!
I like hoop and clubs!
I like hoop and ball too👌🏻
Rythmic Gymnastics is so hard. I did it until about 11 years old (from 4/5). I did competitions as well, but not huge ones.
Even though it was a hobby, I had to train for 10 years a week and I f*cked up my joints because I did it while growing so much....
Same
yikes
I'm a really soft person who cannot function under pressure and thats the reason I gave up RG before even starting the part where they start performing in front of judges
So they can’t compete until the 1st of January of their 16th year, but also retire in their early 20s? That’s 2 shots tops at the Olympic Games in their entire lives!
Getting 2 shots for the Olympics is already a big privilege in rhythmic 😅
Me thinking RG is easy watching on video of a begginer
Well ignore that theory
My daughter is naturally flexible and started at the age of 4. Her coach was from Bulgaria. It’s no joke in training. Her teammates were so sweet.
These aren’t really important rules but you aren’t allowed to wear earrings or nail varnish and every time the judges see you not on releve you get points deducted 💕
This is actually one of the most well argumented videos on RG made from non-insiders!
hey you said Linoy ashram will win gold in Tokyo 2020 Olympics and she did it
4:35 OMG SHE DID!!!
But dance is not a SPORT and Olympics is a SPORT competition
You can't choose which apparatus you do you have to do all of them
I feel so bad for Ariana and Dina because they have been waiting for all their life for these 2020 olympics but now they aren’t allowed
NSG_ 3lm0 Arina
i have several anxiety and i did rythmic gymnastics for 7 years. i was on top of my game won medals etc.. but my teachers didnt help at all. i was very anxious and scared going to practice and i'd cry when i went back home.
My story is literally the exact same except i do track & field now
4:35 aged like wine
I’m a rhythmic gymnast and it’s a hard sport! I think it should be more respected.
i forgot half of my routine when i was 9 and my body was literally driving it self, second place baby
Plus I am only nine and because of the flexibility I wish to go to ballet and I thought that I wasn't flexible enough so I over exercise and that led me to more pain than ever so I couldn't do anything from gymnastics but it was a while ago so I can do it again...
I do rhytmic gymnastics and my russian coach calls me the weirdest names😂
Martiné Cilliers my coach once looked at my almost anorexic friend and said “aww I love you my little cookie” then she turned to me and said “you too, my cookie with extra butter”. She called me fat while calling me a cookie at the same time hahahahahahga 😭
Anna Braginskaya shame🥺❤️❤️
@@annabraginskaya4216 ooh bad
I did rhythmic gymnastics but I had to stop because it got to experience
am i the only person who pronounce the aver-rinas, a-VER-in-ah
Thats the correct pronunciation
That' s correct. In russian, it can sound kinda like a-VEE-ri-na depending on the accent of who talks.

Love from Sabah, Malaysia.
group competition totally ignored
Please do a video with rules that pole dance sport athletes have to follow. There are so many and very strict plus you can find a lot of video footage from competitions such as the IPSF, PSO, Pole Art etc. Maybe this could also help get over the stigma around it :)
❤
I feel so bad for the twins because of how they cancelled the olimpics!
I‘m a gymnastics/ rhythmic Gymnast and I hate some of the Rules 🥺
My mom was a rhythmic gymnast and sometimes she trains the same way she did 20 years ago. She’s 35 now but still has the same passion.
0:57 ‘The Tokyo 2020 Olympics’ haha as if that’s happening now
I am a ryghtmic gymnast. And it is not that Easy how it looks it is super hard. I train gymnastics every single day. I am training gymnastics for 7 years. And now i can do a lot of realy cool tricks!
*excited for the 2020 olympics*
corona: SURPRISE SHORTYYY ✊
You literally said that ribbons are max 3 feet and showed clips where the videos were 5m +
Anyone watching this now knowing the 2020 olympics have been moved to 2021 cos of Coronavirus
please do strict rules about aerobic gymnastics! I've just started and gosh it's insane
watching this after the 2020(/21) finals and guess what... Ashram actaully won the gold metal 🥇
I admire people who love so much their art/sport that much! Like, training is hard and stressful and you must put aside a lot of things but they do it because they love what they do.
Can you do 15 strict rules aestetic group gymnasts has to follow? Its an underrated sport!
Dina and Arina are now 23, and still competing after the drama in Tokyo. They are even aiming to got to Paris Olympics in 2024.
Well, you were spot on about Linoy Ashram and Tokyo 2020 :-)
Do they wear tights?
