  • The “Toka Ebisu Festival” is one of the major festivals in Kyoto, so big that although we are still in the middle of a Pandemic, the festival was held. Toned down and in a lighter form with most events canceled to keep people safe.
So I decided to check out this popular 5-day festival here in Kyoto celebrating Ebisu-san, who according to Japanese mythology is one of the seven lucky gods and responsible for prosperity. With thousands of businesspeople flocking here every year to buy one of the “Fukusawa”, a blessed bamboo branch and decorate it with lucky charms, praying for business going well.
So come with me and see what this lighter version of this popular Japanese festival is like this year, see the shrine maidens dance, and have a walk around with me checking out the festival stalls. And yes, I did get a bite to eat too…

Yes, I was so happy I got to eat some festival food! But eating it with lots of people around me was definitely not going to happen
