- The 2010 Blue Devils Drumline at the Minneapolis System Blue Camp, warming up before rehearsal. Cameraman - Scott Johnson. He offered to take up close and personal shots of the quads (and Dean Hickman) for me.
Scott Johnson is so cool! He was very nice to the kid who wanted to record, and the kid was respectful. Amazing drummer, and amazing person
@salarmander this allows for a quicker sticks out. If you put your finger in between, the sticks are already separated and easier to put into playing position.
"Is that a video?"
"IT''S WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO BE, MASTER JOHNSON."
"No pressure Dean" haha Dean did amazing and so did the entire tenor line!
If your bored skip to 2:08 for extra wicked drumming.
That split second of ungodly clean at @0:37 is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
@PoohStickProductions its an electronic metronome btw
@AlexThlangVEVO yeah the sean vega tenor sticks.
the two outside tenor players are from the same HS and this years tenor line has three from the same HS that is really cool t
@MinnesotaHockey7 yes. yes they are.
I want those heads
They have rehearsals for their rehearsals.
Oh man Joe you got Scojo to hold that for you..
The way tenors should be played and sound! TENORS RULE😎😎😎
I met Scott at the System Blue booth at WGI 2019. Seriously such a cool guy, I was a nervous freshman in high school and shook his hand. Should’ve asked for a picture with him lmao
thanks, bro
@RebelOnAWarpath they are pro-mark brand. our school uses em but im not sure what the tenor sticks are called, i know the snare ones are called DC17 scott johnson signature.
Never not amazed
Get it girl
@Bzong Yeah it was ScoJo
@Kissmykilt11 no..they are playing triplet rolls....like the rudiment...not the actual drum
Yeah, why not?
I mean theirs a lot that's able to do both, but if your playing tenors it's always matched unless your just adding traditional for visual.
Scott is the best.
I was under the impression that they call it quads because they have 4 main drums and the 2 spocks are more of a sound effect... but who knows? probably Scott Johnson.
@itachimercenary15 they used to use the mts1 or mst whatever it was, it was a scott johnson signature, i have like 12 pairs of them, they were great, i never knew that scojo switched em over to promark, till i looked at vic firth's website and saw that they changed the name of the stick. eh, promark and vic firth are good i guess
@cddrummer96 I think both Vic and Promark have the Vega tip..
Im in the same boat dude.
Except we have never had instructors.
so I have to teach and make up the stuff our line does.
I gained leadership skills that i couldnt have otherwise though, so thats good.
no pressure dean
Sureeeee. One day I'll be on a drum line (Blue Devils) and I promise I will not suck.;)
haha i have that same exact warm up at my school its the same tenor split too
@kunitky1 Scott Johnson took his camera.
I thinks it's cool how the qaud line is the same height so their drums are at the same height
I have one of those too but mine has a little more oatmeal around it
So Michael Cera plays tenors for the Blue Devils. Nice. ;)
Holy shit you should write a book
2:05 !
ScoJo's the best haha. Hey what camera are you using?
Woah, I had no idea this was you!
Hi keelan
scotts a good guy
how do hey do it all in synchronization
It's funny, two girls were on BD's snare line. Two and they probably scored higher on that list then you'll ever be to Scojo.
Maybe he's in middle school, where i know for a fact the teachers are far from great at teaching things due to the fact that there is usually only 1 teacher and a teacher can only work with 1 section at a time, and maybe his teacher didn't teach him what triplet rolls were? Not trying to start anything but that's usually how it is before you get into high school and marching band.
I heard Tim Tintari talking
@MoustacheCloud ye, cause of the tip but do u know where i can find white coloured sticks???
Thank you SO MUCH for choosing quads. 3
and THAT is why scott johnson is the coolest drum guy ever.. because he's cool enough to do whatever you want when it comes to filming this stuff... thumbs up if you agree
@maliken22 drems arent made to be fether played they are made to be played. xP and this is coming from a base drum chick.
that metronome... it gives me nightmares
Scojo is so nice
@PoohStickProductions agreed every thing is better with cow bell
DDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!! went to college with that guy! AWESOME!
was that one of the instructors who took ur camera
i love how on deans tenors his beating spot on drum 2nd are like perfect but on his 3rd drum they are all over hahah
@treefalse they dont make 14,14's...its 6,8,10,12,13,14
DEM STICK HEIGHTS
crispy is..as crispy does...
which pearl do they use on tenor
Oooh, burn. I know he knows the proper names for them, which is why it bothered me. And it was more directed at other people who love to call them "quads" even though some lines use quints or hexes. It's the tenor line. Seriously.
Do they select for appearance when they hire guys for this? Do they all have the same personal trainer and diet coach?
@cddrummer96 no. they don't.
So awesome that Scott Johnson did that!
Put some shirts on these guys.
Woah the tenors do stick in on their index finger... that's gotta hurt after a while
what are those drum sticks?
Can someone tell me why the quads hold their sticks at the set postion like that?
@bignate5991 what type of heads are they. i want a set
God, i love how awesome ScoJo is. He is by far the most awesome drum tech ever.
So do all tenors play match grip?
hold on.... i thought zachey was coming back
Did Scott take your camera ?!
why isnt my drumline this hot..
There's nothing wrong with calling them quads.
JP Serrano even though they are Sextets?
did he say 08 short tag? or dittoeight short tag?
is that 12/8 sequencing at 1:05 ?
typical flute comming out right now "that drummer guy is sooooooo hot
its just triplets with rolls in them what do you not get from the title?
I'm pretty sure every world class dci drumline works its collective ass off every year. So why are the Blue Devils at the top so often?
Fantastic!!
scott johnson is so kind to record this for the kid :)
wat kind of drum is that
damn those ain't vic firth sticks what are they?
where is dean hickman?
man that brings me back. had to do the exact same exercise when I was on the line back in high school
Scojo the cameraman
well hello Dean ;)
just got those quad heads....they sound amazing!!
@quintman15 where is dean hickman?
scojo's the man
what heads are those.
Really? Whenever i met him at a competition, he seemed super chill
I didn't know robots could smile
when they change their heads
Real good...but it still needs more cowbell
@TenorBoy2011 eh, kinda.
You need sheet music to figure this out....???
@sexyyetiable ehh have you never seen any drum corp or college band practice ive seen videos of the blue devils practicing in just boxers
Dean is super cute.
That's Triplet Diddle is it not?
Perfect technique is perfect
listen to that velocity!
