What other 6mm cases can the 220 Russian be necked up to? 6ARC? And why does it have to be neck turned? Does necking up to anything 6mm mean it has to be neck turned as well? Coming from the other direction, necking down a 6.5Grendel (don’t know what cases it suits), down to a 6mm case, does this too have to be neck turned before fire forming?
I have a Wichita 1375 in 22PPC. It’s been 30 years since I’ve fired it but I used to fire form it in my garage using a load of pistol powder and the case topped off with cream of wheat. It worked marvelously. Then I would be able to turn the neck so I could safely fire it. Seley Masker built me a great rifle.
Thanks great tutorial video, wondering what cutter angle you use on the 220 Russian when turning? I believe they have a 21 degree shoulder angle so would you use a 23 or 25 degree cutter to slightly touch the shoulder. Apologise if it sounds trivial but I’m new to 6PPC and turning, currently looking at a lovely older Sako in 6PPC Thanks Michael
I use a 30 degree cutter. Any cutter that has an angle greater than or equal to will work. As you say slightly/hardly touch the shoulder. Those Sako rifles are beautiful. Thank you for watching the video. There are many ways to prepare cases and there are shooters out there that go to much more great lengths to ring that last bit of accuracy out. I am more in the middle always looking for the next shiny thing.:)
Nice wood on your Sako "B" prefix single shot. You obviously prefer the Hornady neck turn/case trimmer, or do you have the Forster set up for a specific task? @#&*! Hornady and their shell holders, I have three manufacturers shell holders and I still can't find the one I need! Once again, an informative video!
Howdy, I turn with Hornady and trim with the Forster. Normally for steel I don't turn necks. Just for BR and cases that are reformed. With the wrong drill hardness those RCBS shell holders will liquify a drill bit :)
Nice rifle. Is the neck thicker on the PPC USA than for the PPC ? I've also been told that "USA" was added to the name of this cartridge because people didn't like russian things so much in the 80s, right ? 😂
I'm not a communist or a liberal or anything like that so please don't take this like a nanny state mandate but if you're going to turn your necks you probably ought to have that thing re-chambered to a 0.262" neck. Even if you only neck size the body of the case will shrink enough that you won't have perfect bullet to bore alignment. Having a tight neck fixes that. Or not, whatever. If i cared I'd still have mine.
Ha! Ha! Comrade. I bet you sure shot little groups with that rifle. The Sako 6PPC in the vid is a nice woodchuck rifle made in 1988 (B prefix). If I don't turn 0.002 off the expanded 220 Russian case the loaded round doesn't fit in the chamber. I had one woodchuck I shot crawl up to me and say in his little woodchuck voice, "I sure wish you had turned da neck on those cases to .02 cough.. gasp 62... ugh." I know what you mean about getting rid of certain guns. High maintenance PITA's need to go.

Always was wondering about that
I like the flip up neck turner setup .
Reloading can gobble up all our space. Who knew all the stuff we would be getting in to:)
Love your videos
Thank you for watching!
Breaking news- Putin puts a bounty on Toadley Browne for crimes against the Federation.
Very funny GR. You going to be taking the Alec Baldwin hunter safety course the fall? All the students will be issued bullet proof vests.

Are you going to do a 6 PPC vs. 6BR in the future?
It would make for a very good comment section. Stay tuned. This wont take very long.

@@markcarew6724 Fall fun. It's my favorite time of the year:)
Ah, alchemy. Isn't it fun to turn base metal into gold?
Is 220 Russian the AK74 bullet?
No but I be you could make it work with some brazing.
@@ToadleyBrowne what about a 3D printer, will that work?

Yes and Yes. Norma and Sako make 6PPC USA brass that will require less prep. Putting the USA after encouraged more sales for sure.

@@ToadleyBrowne that's interesting. Carry on.
