This is about the sack of Rome in 1527, when 189 soldiers from the Swiss guard saved the pope to get away. Unfortenally I am too old, there was no Sabaton when I was a kid, but I introduced them to my daughter. And I don't know if she learned so much, but she loves them

So, I've been corrected about what this song was about. It was about the sack of Rome, I thought it was about WWII. Thank you so much for setting me straight!! Not ashamed to be wrong😀 Anytime I get something wrong please let me know.
As far was where you learned more history, my guess for most people would be Sabaton! I loved history but I think a lot of people don't. Earlier on in my life I wanted to teach history and started working towards that. Sadly, life got in the way, and I went corporate. But I think if teachers would incorporate these videos into the classroom, more people would dig it!! I've gone on for too long. Peace and dont hurt anyone.

There's always the official *Sabaton History* channel where they discuss the story behind the songs (most of them at least), it's great. :)

I've definitely learned about a lot of new unknown things, mainly around the human stories/tragedies/heroism. I school we mainly learned about the big events in war history. But I would highly recommend you to react to the full "Carolus Rex" album, it's the story about the rise and fall of the Swedish empire, it's considered by many to be the best Sabaton album. Take it from start to finish to follow the history, it's just an amazing album!
    Thanks to a great reaction!
Best regards from Sweden (living appr 45 miles from Sabatons home town).

I completely agree with everything you said. Definitely learned more from Sabaton about people and /or events and Carolus Rex IS their best album, especially Swedish version (and I am not from Sweden 😊), but both versions are amazing and worth listening

My favorite Sabaton song, among many others. The way they tie history into their music is so much fun.

This song covers the sack of Rome in 1527 by the mutinous troops of Charles V (at the time, Holy Roman Emperor) during the War of the League of Cognac (which in itself I am not super familiar with admittedly). The whole affair was very tragic and bloody however, with numerous atrocities committed (by the time the armies sacking the city had left, the population had dropped from around 55,000 to a mere 10,000). The song focuses in on the heroic rearguard action of the Swiss Guard that day, who led the Pope away to safety at Castel Saint Angelo (pretty much fighting to the last man in the process). I imagine some people might have mentioned this on other videos, but Sabaton also have a history channel on TH-cam where they dive into the stories they cover quite a bit more (it is super fun and well done, and I found it makes the songs even better when one learns about the topic more in depth and then listens to it again (as the lyrics can sometimes be referencing quite specific things in certain songs)). I am not sure percentage wise, but while many (I would even say most) of their songs are WW1 and WW2 in scope, they do have quite a few about other events that are quite a bit older, and even some newer ones (the whole album Carolus Rex for instance being about the Swedish Empires exploits).

In the past it was the Knights Templar who fought for and guarded the pope.
Later it become the holy duty of the swiss guard, and a funny thing is that the swiss flag reminds very much of the Knight Templars cross. 🤔
Well, history was important in sweden when I was a scoolboy back in the 80s, so much of the sabaton songs from big events are familiar.🤘
Great reaction, next Sabaton song should be 7 Pillars of Wisdom

First off best wishes to your eldest, children are a treasure aren't they? History was an integral part of my education (M Div) so the stories Sabaton choose to tell flesh out some events and shed light on some I just did not realize existed. I wager you both would enjoy the music video for '7 Pillars of Wisdom' or the Great Tour concert version of 'The Red Baron.' Enjoy the ride with these guys.

This is about the sack of Rom 1527 and the Swiss Guard (187th) protection of the pope. 458 guards escorted the pope to Castel Saint Angelo for safety. I think online 42 guards survived.

The Last Stand of the Swiss Guard in 1527 is likely what prevented a gigantic religious war, as the rebels would have killed the pope when rome was sacked.
It even inspired the idea of royal guard that exists in multiple monarchies

Nightwish is my all time favourite - whoever the singer is. Sabaton hit me in much the same way as Nightwish did the first time I heard them. Within a month I'd got everything. As for the question, I can't remember what i did learn in history at school, and what I might have learned I've never needed. I don't class history as being an essential subject. That is true of other subjects too. Anyone interested will learn outside of a school. If none essential subjects were dropped then children would find life much easier, and many would feel much less likely to have suicidal thoughts. Sabaton make history interesting and in a way that makes learning really quite simple.

I was always a history buff (mainly had to learn about Audie Murphy in the Army)
My daughter (who is also a huge Sabaton fan) did some genealogy and traced our family history back, we had one relative who lived in the Holy See and one who was a Swiss Guard.
I definitely learned more from Sabaton (and Sabaton history) than in school.

I did not learn more from Sabaton than I did in school... I am in University studying military history tho. And its partly because of Sabaton :)

Love History I’m a old Metal rock nerd. But I have learned so much from Sabaton History. The Devil is in the Details, Sabaton’s History reveals history that brings their mantra alive, “Lest We Forget”. Check out, Attack Of The Dead Men, Winged Hussars but these would be best if you see Sabaton History on these before you react to the songs. Sabaton again is not political but just sings and tells the history on the sacrifices & heroics of mostly military battles. Enjoying your journey and as always give the pups a treat and a pat for me, if they haven’t gone “ Hollywood “ and are limiting their public to just a few special appearances! Stay Safe Rock On!🙏👍🐶🦴🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Not sure if I learned more from school or Sabaton. Just different stuff. A lot of what Sabaton has covered is not taught in history classes here in the USA. They do more overall world history as opposed to a US centric view.
A quick way to learn find out what each of their songs is about would be to go to the Sabaton History channel. There is an episode for almost every song (Not caught up on the newest album yet)
