Voces8 is always superb, but this particular group of voices, of the several I’ve heard, is simply flawless. To those who are no longer singing with Voces8, as well as those who are currently with the group, thank you.
I don't know where to start - your sound, the blend, the diction, the dynamics, its all just freaking Luscious! I have been around classical music all of my 68 years and never heard anything comparable to this. You folks are truly in a class by yourselves. And everyone else will have a very long reach to get to your level. Bravo!!!
As he transitioned from this gorgeous style to Baroque, Monteverdi hit the music world like an explosion. It must have been so thrilling to hear it for the first time...
Such beautiful balance from the first chord onward. It's rare to hear choral music performed at such a level of excellence. It struck me that choral music performed like this may be the highest art form--where the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts, and the instruments and art are inseparable from the human body. I never would have thought this before hearing VOCES8.
From my experience, the most difficult thing about performing in a choir is sounding as one voice. Voces8 has nailed this, as well as tone, diction, musicality, etc. I am in awe.
Magnificent performance. Ensemble is perfection, with lush, rounded blend, sensitive phrasing, moving lines brought forward, then gently receding to allow the next phrase to swell, carefully honed dynamics and an impeccable, flawless unison. Bravo!
Joe Adams Don’t tell anyone I said this, but as a Tallis Scholars fan since the mid 80s, I think the artistry in this performance is far superior. (Sshh! 🤫 no offence Peter Philips et al).
I am so happy to hear the new sound of Voces8 ! And with a marvellous piece of Monteverdi... Thanks a lot from a friend of Chalon sur Saône, in Burgundy, Pascal
I'm just starting to become familiar with this awesome group. What I'd like to see is the score of what they are singing imposed in the lower half of the screen sometimes. Especially the liturgical works like this one.
What happens in the 3rd bar on the last note? Like would the soprano sing a "d"? I could not find any scores with this version. Can somebody explain it?
This is the Tenor, not the Soprano. In the original score it is written exactly like this: D natural against D sharp. Some editors, however, thought it was a mistake and "corrected" it: www.pandolfopaolo.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Monteverdi-Adoramus-te.pdf
It is a motet, typically a Latin religious choral composition, which had its roots on the late 13th century. This work, written in 1620, is an example of Monteversi's seconda prattica, or second style, (characterized by more vertical, block harmony), as distinct from his earlier prima prattica style, which was highly polyphonic (interweaving of multiple parts). This music is (early) Baroque, which was a period of music from about 1600-1750, culminating in Bach and Handel.
Monteverdi, ein ganz Großer dieser Musik und vorgetragen von begnadeten Sänger. Vielen Dank für diesen Kunstgenuß. Alles Gute für euch VOCES8

thrilling to hear him from this group now! We are so lucky to live when we can call this up any time wherever we are on earth...
The way Andrea opens the "misere" she takes it all .... and holds the note a fraction longer.. I really melt!
Sounds creepy. Takes it all?
Such a beautiful performance! ❤

Always amazes me how people give performances like this a "thumbs down". You really have to question their sanity.
It would be nice to hear singing like this as we enter Heaven.

Heavenly.. How to thank you for so much beauty?
c'est la perfection, j'en ai souvent le frisson.
Can't stop listening to/watching this. Reminds me of the Tallis Scholars

@@JeanPaul-Hol65 Thank you. This seems to be a false relation, which has been canceled by the editors during the centuries.

Superb; which is why i was somewhat disappointed to hear that this magnificent chamber group also include Jazz & Pop as part of their repertoire.
1:29... WOW!!
