“Watch out Spike, I’m driving for a layoff!” - Ballinmus Prime [Side note: who the actual fuck names their kid “Spike”? That’s be like naming a dog “brick”]
I know g1 is a huge market but nowadays there’s one too many third parties competing for the same character. It’s amazing how many ways one can turn essentially a guy in a box suit into a flatnose truck.
I was considering getting Light of Peace since I really liked Light of Victory but yeesh. Sounds like the plastic they use for the legends-scale figures helps more with flexing things around things, because at that size the nylon plastic is somewhat flexible but feels borderline indestructible.
For some reason, newer versions of the mp-10 mold have trouble closing their matrix chambers where as the older ones don't have that problem, at least in my experience with owning a few versions.
I've always said that the reason I don't buy MP figures is a mixture of price and the fact that many of them break easily. Light of Peace however seems a lot better. Maybe I could get him sometime.
Brilliant figure, I've had mine for a while now and pretty much agree on every point. I'm lucky enough to have less paint chipping but I also have the legs not clicking together in truck mode and the stress lines on the pole connecting the wheels to the legs
In order to get Light of Peace to roll better I think you have to tab the shin panels into the two tabs underneath the back wheels. Those tabs next to the wheels are trapezoid shaped so you can only peg them in sideways. It rolls much smoother once pegged in but clearance is definitely an issue with those pegs.
Firstly, MP's are not supposed to be toys and they are marketed towards adult collectors, they definitely are too fragile to be toys in the classic sense. That said, KO MP44 is better than the official, they fixed all the knee issues and it tabs together so much better...oh, and it was $144 versus over $400... I have a year of the snake MP10 that was a placeholder until i got MP44 😉
@@curiouscarlo7276 They aren’t designed to be fragile, it’s just that the complex they are the more parts they’re made out of and that’s what causes them to be less sturdy. It’s why even amongst 3P MP the less complex a design is needed to be like the Beast Wars or UT designs the more sturdy they’ll be.
@@grand_max66 I know this is strange, does it have to be this way? Is it not possible to have a sturdy product? I'm not too sure who to ask this except for toy engineers but I don't know where to look.
@@curiouscarlo7276 it's the nature of being so intricate, so many tiny moving panels and arms...never mimd all the little tiny tabs in some cases. It's a trade off for looks, their not meant to be played with roughly like MP10 was or even MP01...that boy is still sturdy as ever but the newer ones just have so many moving parts for the details.
@@jakejager It's strange how a lot of things old are durable and stood the test of time. Many things on my childhood I still have to this day and still works. Some of them are before my time.
For me, the MP-10 is the best mold, so a few years ago I got a couple of MPP-10s (original deco and evangelion one) and they're amazing. Hard articulations, weight, etc, and so far they have been all fine.
I have several 10 inch Optimus Primes over almost 20 years and the Light of Peace is the best for me. None of the official MPs comes close. You can actually tab the panel at the rear bottom panel wheels flush in alt mode if you push the tab in from its bottom end. The tab is shaped more like Ω instead of ∩, if you get what I mean. It's smaller on the bottom than the top.
Light of Peace despite the Q/C is a really nice option for a in scale G1 era Optimus. Not really a fan of 3rd party options as you never quite know what you're getting or how durable it will be in the long run. So far though I only have the MP01 from 20 odd years ago. Despite being dated the articulation was pretty stellar for back in the day. Can't believe it's held up for as good as it has with no noticeable breaks or q/c issues.
Well...to be honest the original máster piece can be really fragile, to the point that just articulating It can normally break It, It and for the priece they have shouldn't be acceptable.
Definitely buy the current MP-44 KO if you're interested. The smaller backpack is nice to have even if you can't use the Starscream and Jetpack parts anymore.
I want this design as a SS release but with a simplified transformation. Even with the wheels out. Something that can be done in 30 seconds. I guess most SS could but it’s complexity and build is something I don’t wanna rush. Maybe one designed like that expensive robot version but a little more complex?
...what about KKB MP10 (sized down MP 10 KO), that scales with the smaller figures, yet has diecast parts, the detail and quality of a MP for 60 Canadian, and free shipping, right now? Another suggestion, is to get the odd larger MP, to not get too crazy: like MP Starscream, in jet mode, scales correctly with the earthrise/legacy vehicles. I picked one up (mp 07) used, and it's Jet mode looks way better than ER starscream.
I preordered the magic square figure a few months ago, it was the original version supposedly. But halfway through, the seller contacted me and told me theyre gonna deliver me the diecast version instead, free of charge cause they ran out and ive been waiting for months already so i guess thats something to compensate for at least. Only costs me around $120 Really good figure I'd say.
Thanks for the review and a look into that MP-10 repaint. Since your title is "does a CHEAP MP Optimus exist," I think TE-01 definitely belongs in this conversation. It has a similar look to the MS, and arguably a better feel. It does not articulate like the MS and I like the EX paint, but the TE is more sturdy and definitely more affordable at least in today's market. (You can pick up the regular red-white-and-blue TE-01 for 73 bucks and it's a brick. I let my smallest kid play with it as a means of tanking for the rest of my MP collection, and it doesn't have scratch) Its transformation is complex, but like the MS its 2 modes are very clean. The lightup feature ain't shabby either. The question comes down to marginal affordability vs. MS' articulation, that extra bit of cartoon character quality, and easy transformation.
I have their first Optimus Prime and its very similar to this one. The plastic is DEFINITELY something to worry about. I was rotating the bicep and his elbow just came clean off.
This truly is the definitive Mp Scaled Optimus Prime figure collectors like myself ever own so happy to own the ex version but a sacrifice had to be made had to sell my TE-01 but it was so worth it
LeBron MP10 was like one of the latter MP10s so hence why you got loose joints because that is like the past the 20th Optimus. Then again I have a preference for MP10 in part because I am not a big fan of slavish cartoon accuracy tbh
The EX (2023 edition) is definitely the one to get. It has paint, it has slightly better feeling plastic, and he comes with a bonus jetpack. Both his gun and jetpack are blast effect compatible
I managed to get rid of the overspray on mine with a pencil eraser. It isn't a perfect solution though there's still some overspray left over, but it isn't as prominent anymore.
If your Magic Sqaure Optimus's back tyres don't roll well, that means you have not transformed it properly. There are two small tabs in the part where the tyres are attached and notches in the leg panels where the tabs fit in. If you don't make that connection, the leg panels are bound to touch the ground.
You can store the hitch piece within the backpack on magic square. Fits in snuggly and clips back on with no issues. Probably just a fluke in the design and not intentional but makes me happy for it all the same.
Honestly, honestly, that yellow and brown color pallet doesn’t look bad on Prime’s design. Makes me kinda wish a new Ultra Magnus like character could be made just so that could be used as more than a Lebron Optimus
I have my MPP10 for truck mode which I love and MP10 for alt mode. But I am looking for a toon-style bot mode as my collection has shifted that way and can't choose between Magic Square v1, Magic Square v2, Transform Element or KO MP 44. I've heard different people claim all four of them as being the best. This comparison was cool because that LeBron deco is fun but I don't know how many people are really comparing these two molds at this point.
Having the MP-44 KO and Light Of Peace as my only MP G1 Primes, I highly recommend you don’t get MP-44 KO. Light Of Peace sets unrealistic (well, I guess now they’re realistic) standards that MP-44 KO cannot meet. His heft is great. But everything else is completely annihilated by Light Of Peace. Also, the knee joint wearing down over time isn’t the most tragic part of the experience. I don’t want anyone else to suffer the same feeling of devastation I felt when the waist joint broke for the first time. It’s inevitable once you transform him enough times. And it’s a horrifying feeling. I had 2 replacement pieces sent to me and those broke over time, too. That waist swivel should have been a metal piece, everything around it is metal. That figure has traumatized me.
Im realizing that other than the arms being too long on it, Mp-10 has better proportions than the magic square and MP-40. I get that theyre going for the long legs look, but the torso is way too crushed on the newer ones. Mp10 has better humanoid proportions. Other than the long arms.
The only thing I'm pretty scared is the decast on the feet rusting, like I have some toys that had this rn after having it for a long time and the feet is a visible part of the body
Honestly, for me the MP-10 is all about aesthetics, what do I mean by that? It's just design, like if the vehicles in the show were based on a real truck or car, I would definitely think the MP-10 ticks all the boxes for me... Yeah, the articulation and engineering put into the Magic Square They are incredible, but the mp-10 won me over since I first saw it.
While TE-01 is my Optimus Prime I do also have the US release MP10 which is cool I would love to find one of these Lebron yellow MP10s and swap the head to a Huffer head for my very own Huffering Prime
That LeBron James MP10 is no more of an oddity than that Calvin Johnson themed T30 Megatron or them He-Man and the Masters of the Universe themed WWE figures. Maaaaaaaaaaaan, those joints sound awful...you sure that's the MS02EX and not the regular MS02!?
No real need for that since it's still for sale on BBTS for $90 US which is not that bad MP wise and it's one of the best MPs we've had in a while so you don't need to get a KO unless you have no money
I personally prefer the MP-10 design. I think the proportions are kinda weird, the arms being way too long, but overall I think it looks nicer.
