  • Added score to 2011 tutorial and fixed the errors. Level 7, C-sharp Minor. This is painfully slow. Might be better to apply the 2x speed.

Hi! I'm learning this piece and I was wondering about the fingering you use in 2:41, different from the one at the begining. I also was considering this fingering because I have big hands and feels more comfortable (c# minor scale natural fingering), but I don't know if its correct to use it or if could be a drawback in fast tempo. What do you think?

    • @janepianotutorials
      @janepianotutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi, you are careful. That's great. I try my best to follow the editor's fingering when making tutorials. In this case, the editor must have had fingering in the beginning but did not repeat it later, so I must have used my own the 2nd time. Here is a useful quote:
"...Be especially careful to choose the fingering which best suits your hand and the phrasing of the passage. Good editions of music usually have sensible fingerings, but if there is any department of piano playing where you should follow your own judgment it is that of fingering. The best teachers will always tell you that. Even such fine editing as that of Rafael Joseffy should not be followed in its fingering unless you feel it suits you. In fact Joseffy had some strange fingering crotchets -- such as changing fingers on repeated notes even in molto adagio passages -- which few wish to follow..." Interetsing I also use 80% similar fingering as yours
I think it is even better for small hands(It basically uses more wrist)
I am really confused with that thumb on black keys as first part. Never trained or feel comfortable with the setting.
But I am afraid it is brought to 150 bpm, it might be a better choice idk😂

@@larghedoggo9607 I find that Schirmer editions fit my small hands (span 9) best. With IMSLP we can check a variety of editor fingering by testing a line or two, use the ‘view’ option instead of downloading the score.

      Thanks for advice.
My hands are even smaller 🥲
No comfortable white key octaves on top in right hand.
(9th only in the edge and often impossible to play without rolling)
I often edit my own fingering but I am not sure about such speed etudes.
That 1234(initial on black keys sometimes) is ofc a circle of wrist but it seems to be intentional I see many other tutortials follow such fingerings too.
I will experient bit more and deciee!

I’m sorry I never got proper training but some questions
@8:28 is the 3rd note for right hand supposed to be A instead of A#?
@12:09 G for 16th note sounds right, but I only see indication from F->G in left hand, does it apply for right hand too?
    Thanks

This piece is assigned after a proper foundation is poured, and levels added 1 by 1. This etude, Level 7+, in itself, becomes the technical exercise. How many years have you been playing? Skilled at scales and arpeggios?
