Thrash it every day for 150 thousand miles like a proper tradesman and see what goes wrong thats a proper road test . No mention of reliability . Good review of the cup holders though

I have a 2018 L2H1 (Branded a 340L here in Australia, with some Limited features, but not all of them) & it has the 2L with 6 speed Auto. It is absolutely fabulous & I have done nearly 70000 kms in 18 months or so travelling around Australia for work (& Pleasure) hassle free & loving it. I came out of a VW caddy (Which I loved) with the 1.9 & 6 speed DSG & am seeing similar fuel numbers. I am a convert. The only thing I upgraded was the sound system, & in saying that used all the ford Head unit, just added 2 amps, one each for the competition Tweeters in the original location & grill, & competition 6.5" mids in an adaptor. The door also have quite a bit of Soundmat in them to take the drumming out of the door skins. A 10" Powered sub sits under the middle passenger seat in the underseat box.

I've always been a transit fan, I've had the pleasure of time in a very well specced connect limited. Like being in a 2 seater mondeo with monstrous space in the back, ridiculously comfortable!
Right now me and my siblings are considering a van to convert to a day van/camper. Obvious choice for most is the vw, a decent set of wheels, lowered and some body changes and they look stunning..... but I think I have talked them into going transit custom instead, you get so much more for far far less!

After driving a primastar and vivaro for 9 years. I now drive a custom l1h1. And its very nice. Big mirrors with wideview and blindspot mirror(vw transporter still not:s). Love the dash. The only thing i really hate is the back suspension. Way to light bouncie. With normal construction tools and stuff. Every bump of thing you feel the back bouncing up and down. Thinking of adding backup springs next to the original suspenson. Had it on my vivaro and it drove great.

Lovely review. I bought myself new last year August Limited 300 with 170hp goes very well. There's only 1 thing I really don't like about this van and it's very annoying especially in winter. It's the heater with it's 3 settings. You can't leave it on to blow into cabin, to heat up your hands simultaneously whilst it's blowing on front windscreen. However you can leave it on simultaneously blowing it on windscreen whilst it's blowing on your feet. In other vans you can dial it manually accordingly how much you want to divert the air to hands and windscreen

Best friend who also has a Transit Custom Limited 2016 just gave it to his son and bought a VW Transporter 2019 with 10K. His words were that the build quality wasn't as good, the engine only had 5 speed gearbox which didn't deliver as much power and there were nowhere near as many nice bits/additions. I asked him 'Why the hell did you buy it then'? He stated that he thought that the VW badge made him feel 'cooler'. Can't help some people I guess.

Considering Ford are the market leaders their after sales care is dreadful
A nightmare to get repairs or service carried out without having to wait weeks for a slot
    and days without a vehicle
If they had 24 hour service like Mercedes , Iveco to name a few, I believe they would double their sales
One of our transit tippers suffered a seized rear caliber after only 3 months on the road I ended up having to get an independent to repair it at my cost as for safety I couldn’t wait plus I just couldn’t have the vehicle off the road
And the hassle to get reimbursed via the so called warranty was not worth it.
Never again we have returned to Mercedes simply for the after sales care and no down time with their 24/7 service

Interesting review. But something very important and rarely covered in van reviews that many owners have suffered is van security. How easy is it to break in and steal expensive work equipment or steal the van, catalytic converter or diesel fuel. Are the door locks enforced to stop crowbar or drill breaking the lock are there added locks to stop doors being bent down for entry. Is there alarm options, tracking, phone alert.

@@vanaramauk Thanks Tom, I know tradesman who have had there van broken into several times in one year loosing £1000's of pounds of tools and not being able to work. My van was broken into and I was shocked how easy it is as the metal around the locks is not much thicker than a tin can and needs to be reinforced, these aren't cheap vehicles. Van manufactures need to wake up and greatly improve in many cases pathetic locks with £1000's of tools onboard.

@@raymondrixon2209 Hi Raymond, thanks for getting back. Yes a security utility is the answer. But it would be much easier if they upgraded/enforced/beefed up the locks when they produced/built these vans in the first place and tried to stay one step ahead of the thief's rather than owners having to upgrade the locks/security or find out the hard way. A lovely new van full of expensive specialist bespoke tools getting nicked can be a horrendous nightmare.

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Graham P Jolly Tom here: Where to start? When you lease a brand new van you only pay for the period of time you own the vehicle (2-5 years), not the whole outright price, so you spend less for it and won't be hit by depreciation - you just give it back at the end of the contract and upgrade to the next brand new van. Brand new vehicles are also covered by the manufacturer's warranty, so if the worst happens & something breaks you won't have to shell out your own money to have it fixed (depending on the terms of the warranty). Also, because the van is brand new, it won't need an MOT for the first 3 years so you don't have to spend on MOTs. Road tax is also included in your monthly payments already. If you're VAT registered, you can claim VAT back on your monthly payments. In most cases, leasing will offer the lowest up-front initial rentals (deposit) and lower monthly payments than PCP contracts.

Things that let this van down, injectors/adblue issues, hundreds of them buying stored in fields before being sold so they already have body and chassis rust at less than 2 years from manufacturer (not even sold in some cases). & lastly but most know, crap locks by far the easiest van to peel and steal or if someone hasn't had the driver door lock blanked over/changed use that.
On the plus side these known issues mean the price is always far less than other Brands and the trim level is higher if you match price to price.

@@vanaramauk No, when you have to add after market locks/ security and reliability into account it's not class leading, it's just a cheap okay-enough all-rounder. Just because it appears good value doesn't make it class leading, just as measuring it on sales volume is a flawed metric due to cost of ownership for a Transit custom is far higher than many of its competitors. Almost no one I work along side or know owns their Transit custom they're all lease, but any other brand tend to be owned outright especially VW Transporters.

Driving company transit custom. First 3 years were really good, but after that problems started. Mot advisery- leaking engine oil, not excessive. Half the engine covered in oil😂 last week lost 5th gear- apparently known issue for these vans. New gearbox will definitely not be cheap. To sort oil leak will also be some cost. Drove other Ford vans (older custom, connect) and they were like problem after problem after another problem. Its crazy how unreliable they make vans these days. Seems like car technology is going backwards. Oh and apprentice wee fiesta 3yo just packed in- engine completely gone, sold it for 500£ to scrapies..
Definitely wouldn't spend my own money on ford trash

Yes but hes not telling all the problem these vehicle give . Engine failure . Turbo replacement braking wiring loom , water pump, breather system getting blocked dpf egr getting blocked start stop failure, on windy days doors over stretching causing body repair, leather cheap, power steering leaking , ford dealership so busy with repairs takes weeks before they can diagnose wheel nut need replacing . This is a joke when so many things go wrong with these. In my experience I'm talking about the euro 5 model. It takes the piss when I paid £31000 for 9 seater. Cost of all these repairs is astronomical. I was lucky the engine went 3 month before the warranty went. They use cheap o rings. Oh caliper ceasing up as well. Also they had my vecile for 6 weeks to replace my engine block. Gabe me no curtisy car or any loss of earnings. Otherwise I love driving this custom just build quality is a fucking disgrace.

They are a cheaply built can now, ford don’t care about you once you bought it that’s all that matters to them. Gotta wait 3 months for you injectors to be changed it’s ridiculous
