As an agency driver, usually driving lorries work can get a bit lean this time of year. But my agency are amazing & always strive to give reliable drivers some form of work. So over the Xmas / New year period I was allocated work at a popular van rental company, mainly collecting vans that had been hired by the Royal mail & Parcelforce. These were all newish 2019 plate vans, all less than 5000 miles - the damage on them was horrific ! Our team of 3/4 picked up over 60 vans, & only one had no damage, some were so bad, they would be illegal to drive. The cabs, for the main part were disgusting, - food, drink, clothing & general mess all left behind, (however I did gain 38 pence & 3 lighters) So in the past 10 days, having driven most new model vans, my conclusions are : Sprinter - Good van, Solid, but seems a bit dated. Transit- Always been a favourite of mine, overall best for value & practicability. Crafter - Pulls like a train, basic cab, a workhorse. Boxer - who the hell thought putting the handbrake to the right of the drivers seat was a good idea ? - when fully raised it will do it's best to sodomise you whilst exiting the cab, other than that - feels OK, but think it may have many things malfunctioning shortly after purchase. And now, my absolute favourite, - the VW Transporter, Solid, well made, fast, comfy, an absolute pleasure to drive. Now the downside - the model I was driving costs around £38,000 - it was nice - but not that nice.
Its Ed China. I watched all of your previous shows many times. (Wheelers Dealers from the beginning to California.) Great to see you back as you have been missed by many fans here across the pond.
I have one, it is awesome, 170bhp, Sat Nav, Cruise, air-con, heated seats, heated windscreen, bi-xenon headlights, fold-down roof rack, rear camera and parking sensors all-round, USBs everywhere, lots of storage and it averages 45mpg, the best van I have ever had :-) :-)

If you can fix this then I’ll honestly say that you can not do better than a Ford Transit.
Ford just issued a recall for those that had auto start feature; seems the pressurized transmission start assist can leak oil onto the catalytic converter and start a fire. Goood job, Ford.
The brake peddle is way too high. I’ve been driving mine for a couple weeks and I’ve never driven anything where you have to lift up your whole leg to switch from accelerator to brake. It feels dangerous to drive, like my brake reactions are slower because of it. It also makes my legs ache so much. I really don’t like the comfort driving it at all. The bottom of my back aches really quickly, and I think it’s all due to how the peddles are positioned. I’m driving 10+ hrs a day across the country and the drive for a short amount of time is enjoyable but it’s really not comfortable for longer journeys. Start and stops are a killer because of the peddles.
Here in U.S.A. the Transit is a relatively new replacement for the Econoline series and I personally have found them to be rather top heavy especially the extended roof version. So much so that highway driving is a white knuckle experience.

Was needing a van again as back in the building trade but this does not look as big in the back as my MK7 was, I’d love to have seen an 8x4 sheet in the back for comparison! the transit pay load was designed for an 8x4 sheet originally 🫤
Hi Edd I would love to hear how you got a Ford Custom 2019 with Fords 180 degree rear view camera? Its in your video-review of the car but no dealer in UK or DK (my location) sell it with that.
My Openreach supplied Custom Transit was in and out the repair shop. I had four accelerator (fly by wire) pedal replacements in the three years I had it. They are built in Turkey and have dreadful build quality and dire custom support.
@@paulp1008 There was a noticeable lack of response from the accelerator which increased as time went on. Then the van would give up and go into 'limp home' max 1000 rpm mode. The repair every time was replacement of the throttle pedal assembly. After four repairs I was glad to see the back of the van.

When it’s 4000 km from one side of the country to the other I certainly want some comfort. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
I got one cost me 30 grand🤣👍
@@scroungasworkshop4663 i am a trade amd been driving transits for 20 years and agree the sport has some great features and look great
Was needing a van again as back in the building trade but this does not look as big in the back as my MK7 was, I’d love to have seen an 8x4 sheet in the back for comparison! the transit pay load was designed for an 8x4 sheet originally 🫤
Automatic or manual?
welcome back edd
Hi Edd I would love to hear how you got a Ford Custom 2019 with Fords 180 degree rear view camera? Its in your video-review of the car but no dealer in UK or DK (my location) sell it with that.
being a rather tall guy myself, I'm surpised Edd didn't comment on its cramped cabin space.
What about security Ed???.
Ed still kicking himself
Not enough information on the PHEV but still a good video.
Looking a bit cramped in there Edd, how tall are you?
My Openreach supplied Custom Transit was in and out the repair shop. I had four accelerator (fly by wire) pedal replacements in the three years I had it. They are built in Turkey and have dreadful build quality and dire custom support.
what were the symptoms of the fbw throttle problem...did the van judder at certain speeds?
@@paulp1008 There was a noticeable lack of response from the accelerator which increased as time went on. Then the van would give up and go into 'limp home' max 1000 rpm mode. The repair every time was replacement of the throttle pedal assembly. After four repairs I was glad to see the back of the van.
Thanks for the reply..have a great day.
@Donald J. Trump Had mine for three years. Many of the other Openreach transits had faults too.
sounds more like some other issue and they kept repairing the thing that wasn't broken
Thank you just what I wanted to here👌😎
Love Edd china top mechanic and decent bloke
