Yea, I feel how you all are feeling. Even tho my wife is a Realtor, It's still exhausting to look for land. And the prices right now are way too damn expensive.
That clause really does throw a curveball, I love the idea of letting her go out into the woods and let her enjoy a bit more hunting and relive those memories from her younger years, but at the same time the thought of a 90 year old hunting in a woods that I own and I want to camp in, is terrifying.
I’d have gone for it, but would have had lawyers write some clauses in as well for your safety, and protection. You don’t want to be liable for any accidents. That’d be my biggest worry. Like you said though, at 90, she’s not going hunting again. Congrats on the property! Love the cabin in the woods. An a-Frame is a dream!
That was a wild curve ball! I think that clause would be a no from me. Just no strings attached. If I bought land, I bought it. If that lady wanted to hunt, she should keep the land. You can't have it all. I was surprisingly sad about her license though. You can peep them leaves on your own land now, Becki!
I think you guys made the right decision. The hunting clause is super weird. I think it’s a slippery slope when it comes to allowing someone to hunt your property. Living in Montana, we have had people just show up at our door asking to hunt our property. Everyone having a story saying “the old owners let us hunt it”. I think having no strings attached was the way to go! Congrats on the land purchase!
I think I would've been ok with the clause if there was a stipulation that they needed prior approval / notice given to come on the property. But I also grew up on a farm where it was normal to go hunting on the neighbor's land as long as you gave them a heads up.
As someone who grew up hunting, and still hunts, hunting was a big thing that brought the whole family together every year. Even the grandparents and great-grandparents. I would have allowed and welcomed the amendment. I understand how much hunting means to people. It was a very sad day when my grandparents finally stopped hunting due to their age. Plus, at her age, the odds of her hunting more than a few days a year, if at all, were very low. I'm sure it was more trying to hold on to those last few happy memories than it was really trying to harvest a deer.
Filming this, storing it, pulling it out to edit when the story is about to kick off…. That took some SERIOUS foresight!! Re: hunting clause: hard no from me. The liabilities are off the charts. Absolutely a dealbreaker.
The hunting clause is a very interesting scenario. I probably would have been weirded out as well, but her being 90 years old might have tipped the decision. It’s highly unlikely she would ever hunt again, but if she did it would be terrifying. Old people and guns don’t mix.
Hi guys! We really love how you're all over the place with your content and still making it all fun to watch. We love camping and building stuff too, so this series should be fun :) As for the granny hunter, I wouldn't be worried too much, but still would back out because of how weird a request it is. Anyway, things are how they should be and I guess you now have your dream property.
Thank you for taking us along this journey! Buying property is such a daunting task, but so worth it in the end. You’ve got to trust your gut along the way. I don’t think I would have been able to move forward with that deal if the seller had been able to build that into the contract. Glad it worked out in your favor!!!
Whoa, not sure how we haven't come across your channel before. Looks awesome and cant wait to check out some more videos. We visited Newfoundland and New Brunswick last year and almost bought land after our first visit. We cant wait to live vicariously through your land purchase. Keep the adventures coming!
Great storytelling as always! I would've told the lady she could hunt one more time and that's it. But I think you guys made the right decision. Congrats on the land can't wait to see what you do with it.
Exciting to watch. My wife and I bought five acres in the PNW a couple years ago and we’ve done almost nothing besides camp on it. Very much looking forward to working on some this summer though and excited to see you two post your journey, it’s so motivating for folks like us :)
You guys made the right choice not wanting her to even have the option of coming back to hunt the property. Not only does it seem like a big insurance risk if something were to go wrong with her alone on YOUR property, it opens up a weird web of her relatives possibly feeling entitled to hunt that land as well. What a weird situation and absolutely a deal breaker.
So excited to see what you do with the land. I love watching builds like you guys are planning. @Vanwives have done many projects like the ones you mentioned, in Canada. Their vids might answer a lot of questions you may have about building a cabin, clearing ground, etc. Good luck!!
Your journey hit home, I bought a place right around tge same time and the video reminded me of all the stress and heartache that came with finding beautiful places and then getting bid out. Glad you got yourselves an awesome plot of land and a really cool spot to make your own. Loving the stories, can't wait for more.
100% I would taken them on their final hunting trip myself and closed the deal, she just wanted one last go at it. In reality, people will probably be hunting on ur property often with out you knowing
My dream is to buy land and build a compound where I can live in peace without neighbors. Appreciate you sharing your journey - I'm inspired once again.
9:20 omg sounds like the listing of the land we bought outside of Charleston, SC. Pictures were minimal and the ones they had were horrible, including the photo of an albino squirrel. 🤣 The land is AMAZING!
Love this, can’t wait to follow along with this journey! The hunting clause was weird, I’d be torn, but realistically she wasn’t hunting again, so would have risked it! I’d love land to build a hide on and do loads of wildlife photography!
I would say if they are adding a clause, you should add a clause that you are not liable for any thing that happens to her while on your property and she cannot bring guest. Overall, I think the logic of her getting a license or actually coming were slim to begin with. Yall did the right thing.
Dude!!! It was like watching a movie with all sorts of twist & turns along with a what the heck twist. Honestly I don’t even think the ex property owner would’ve handled a firearm capable of taking down a deer. Like my late father in law said once “we all know when it’s time to retire the macho”
The odds that she would have come hunting are low, but it leaves the door open and I would feel so strange about it, certainly a unique clause. A great video tho love seeing the behind-the-scenes of this process!
Casually I’m looking to buy a land in Molise Italy this video is quite handy to see the normal struggle you might find for example I want a land with a river or something to get the water 😅
Listo! I'm ready! Hi Becki! Hi Chris! I know how awesome this is going to make me feel even before I watch it! Peace and hugs! I love your work! Merci beaucoup from McGill Ghetto! OMG I saw Newfoundland footage! Okay, I peeked! Yikes!
As someone who does bow hunt, asking permission to hunt a property is pretty common within the community. If you wanna keep people off, keep it posted. Sure, some Aholes will trespass but youd have legal rights. I think the piece of land y'all bought is perfect, though. I've been in the search phase for a while now myself. Can't wait to follow along!
The hunting clause probably happens more than you think. We bought farm land from a neighbor and their grandkid wanted to be able to still go hunting on it. We did a handshake deal off the contract that he could come for the first couple of years. But you have to then worry about what happens if someone you let on your property gets injured. It certainly isn’t worth it to have that in a contract and hanging over your head.
Congrats on the land. Did I miss it or did you guys say how many acres it is? Excited to see all the content you guys will have for us with this new adventure
That is crazy. While I (Kelley) am a hunter and have been for over 25 years. I wouldn't have agreed just because that so weird. I would never want to walk a property not knowing if someone is there hunting. We have public land we hunt next to ours and I will only do it during bow season. Also the lability on you for that if she got hurt. Asa realtor I wouldn't want you to do it. We lease the land we hunt and have to have separate insurance we pay for that.
Excited for more of these videos! I think the hunting clause would have had me back out. In the unlikely event she went hunting at 90 years old, she wouldn't have been hunting by herself. Having a small group of people walking around on the property with guns just wouldn't be cool with me.
I always find it interesting when a property has been on the market for a long time and then suddenly there is a lot of interest when there hasn’t been a drop in price. I always tell our agent we don’t play games and walk away. Fuck that shit.
Can you imagine the gold mine found footage horror movie you would have of camping in the woods and some 90-year old woman with a shotgun shows up in the middle of night with a walker?
I would have just required that, if she was going to go hunting on the property, she had to notify you ahead of time and has to actually ensure you got the message (like, you were directly on the phone with her when she told you, not just leaving a message). Then you could just make sure you're not there when she was.
Honestly it would have depended on where I was getting the land from. If a buddy was selling it to me and he was a hunter I'm sure we couldn't work it out. But a random stranger probably not.
Very strange clause…. But the chances of her actually hunting the land was next to nothing. Though, I could see that opening up the possibility of bringing her son with her or other interested hunting parties and at that point, what do you do? Glad they were smart enough to tell her no on the license.
90 year old wants to hunt my land, sure! But I’m thinking there’s a concession, she needs to give me a better price or pay each time she comes to hunt. Seems like the oddest ask ever, I’d likely be just like you and 2nd guess it. Glad she couldn’t get the license. Nice to know the state of NY has some common sense in that department.
Context: this is coming from someone who grew up with a super hard right, 2A loving family and from someone who also has hunting experience and shot my own deer. There is a **big** difference between these two hypothetical situations: 1) allowing friends or locals to come on to your property during hunting season on a conditional, case-by-case basis, where you have all the power as the current property owners, and 2) having a written legally binding clause in the agreement of acquiring this land that allows an elderly disabled person (who realistically shouldn't be operating any kind of dangerous object like a firearm) to come onto your property at any time of their choosing with a loaded weapon. By extension you're also allowing other members of her family to also come on to the land since she needs to be driven and assisted to get around to places. There are some fucking weirdo ass people in these comments trying to normalize what the former property owners and the old woman wanted. Don't doubt yourself, Becki. Your gut feeling and logic was completely right to want to immediately walk away from that deal, and I'm glad the situation sorted itself out in the end and that woman was not granted a hunting license. Jesus Christ 😂 As the owners of the land, you have the authority to decide what you two are comfortable with and not comfortable with. And that decision does not have to abide by any common American hunting traditions or unspoken rules.
I would have been fine with the old lady's amendment. However, I would have countered with she had to wear clothing identical to Elmer Fudd's hunting gear, including the hat. That would have made it well worth the risk.
Ohh Becki, if you you were so excited when your realtor called you to let you know they accepted your offer that you shat your pants, can you imagine the pant sharting that would have taken place when you wake up on a cool fall morning, unzip your tent, and are face to face with Nana Bang Bang!! Good ole Nana, her walker, an oxygen tank, all decked out in hunter orange, a rifle she can barely pick up anymore, offering you some of her pocket candy! That would be instant shitting of pants! That’s a hard one for sure though! One side you have the good karma of knowing Nana died with a smile on her face just thinking about the possibility of going hunting on her favorite grounds. Then there’s the other side where people, especially Nana’s family be Fuc$&n crazy as shit! You don’t know them, and they don’t know you. Plus you just emptied your bank account for something that has strings still attached from the previous owners? Nahhhh.. In the end it all worked out great, but you two were stayed so level headed and you both were thinking the right way in that if you had to walk away, sure it would suck donkey balls, but at least you wouldn’t have that weird feeling in your gut for years worrying about the what if’s. High 5 to you both! You did good!
honest to god i have no idea how i’d handle that situation. on the one hand she’s so old that she’ll never hunt again; but with liability issues and so much other shit i’d prolly walk away. in the end the problem solved itself (best kind of problems) but still really weird
Plenty of places in the country will have folks ask to hunt on your property. That is what a lot of respectful hunters will do rather than trespassing. Not a big deal.
Been a long time coming with this one! Pumped to share this vlog series with you every couple of weeks!
Can’t wait to follow along with this series! If you EVER want to explore land in NL I’d love to help you guys out! Cheers 📸
Yea, I feel how you all are feeling. Even tho my wife is a Realtor, It's still exhausting to look for land. And the prices right now are way too damn expensive.

The organizining of files going back 9 years for this video! Becky Level!
I’d have gone for it, but would have had lawyers write some clauses in as well for your safety, and protection. You don’t want to be liable for any accidents. That’d be my biggest worry. Like you said though, at 90, she’s not going hunting again.

Agreed! Thanks much!
Whenever I hear (the old owners) I hear someone pulling a scam. Maybe its something to ask the old owners in those cases.
As soon as I saw the layered rock mini waterfalls it reminded me of Franklin Lloyd Wright Fallingwater house.
I think I would've been ok with the clause if there was a stipulation that they needed prior approval / notice given to come on the property. But I also grew up on a farm where it was normal to go hunting on the neighbor's land as long as you gave them a heads up.

Yes I think you are right, I’m sure they had a lot of memories attached to the land and it was hard to let go
I love how you stick to your interest instead of chasing trends. Cheers both of you keep it up.

I just know this is gonna be the coolest cabin on TH-cam, I can’t wait

I remember the Newfoundland episodes! Has it really been that long 😢
Thanks for taking us along!
The dabs and dances make this feel like classic B&C content wrapped in modern production value. So hyped for the rest of this series!
Keep it up. This is one of the best “story” videos in a while.
Exciting to watch. My wife and I bought five acres in the PNW a couple years ago and we’ve done almost nothing besides camp on it. Very much looking forward to working on some this summer though and excited to see you two post your journey, it’s so motivating for folks like us :)
I would have told her "Sure, but I get half the deer in my freezer"! I look forward to the adventures on your land!
You two are adorable.
You guys made the right choice not wanting her to even have the option of coming back to hunt the property. No deal. You purchased, no need to adhere to sellers concessions. Great episode!😊
Love this! The “let’s f’n go!” Mentality you two possess is amazing!
So excited to see what you do with the land. I love watching builds like you guys are planning. @Vanwives have done many projects like the ones you mentioned, in Canada. Their vids might answer a lot of questions you may have about building a cabin, clearing ground, etc. Good luck!!
The real reason for buying land: Chris having a place to perform a Naruto run in the fields.
Precisely 😂😂
Your journey hit home, I bought a place right around tge same time and the video reminded me of all the stress and heartache that came with finding beautiful places and then getting bid out. Glad you got yourselves an awesome plot of land and a really cool spot to make your own. Loving the stories, can't wait for more.
I would have walked away, glad it sorted it self out. Beautiful land, congrats!
Becki reaction when you got the news ( 18:30 ) was amazing. also the hunting thing is so F weird... good thing she couldn't do it
Love how you trusted your gut and didn't make any weird compromises
Was he "sundowning" at 4:48???? Hahahaha!
SLEEEPYYY CREEEEEEEK lets gooo!! wow what a crazy scenario too 😅
I love the long-termism of this whole thing. just so many levels
100% I would taken them on their final hunting trip myself and closed the deal, she just wanted one last go at it. In reality, people will probably be hunting on ur property often with out you knowing
Love it Becki....no more "traapsing" through the woods.
Looking forward to the whole series ❤❤
My dream is to buy land and build a compound where I can live in peace without neighbors. Appreciate you sharing your journey - I'm inspired once again.
That hunting clause is the weirdest thing I have ever heard!! 😂😂
What a nice property, I am sure you guys are going to enjoy it. I guess this kept you busy during the pandemic.
Thank you for sharing the journey. Looking foward to the next one!
9:20 omg sounds like the listing of the land we bought outside of Charleston, SC. Pictures were minimal and the ones they had were horrible, including the photo of an albino squirrel. 🤣 The land is AMAZING!
This is awesome! A lot of old school B&C vlog vibes! Looking forward to the whole series 👏👏👏
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love this, can’t wait to follow along with this journey!
The hunting clause was weird, I’d be torn, but realistically she wasn’t hunting again, so would have risked it!

Thanks!! Yeah threw us for a loop for sure!

Your works and aesthetics are my inspiration, I've been following you on yt and ig since I saw you Pete's channel. - Philippines
Not gonna lie. It's disappointing that you guys didn't end up back in NL. What ambassadors for the province!
Us too, things worked out in the end but NL will always be our home 😊
Dude!!! It was like watching a movie with all sorts of twist & turns along with a what the heck twist. Honestly I don’t even think the ex property owner would’ve handled a firearm capable of taking down a deer. Like my late father in law said once “we all know when it’s time to retire the macho”
Thank you!!! Yeah a bit of an odd request for sure!
The odds that she would have come hunting are low, but it leaves the door open and I would feel so strange about it, certainly a unique clause. A great video tho love seeing the behind-the-scenes of this process!
Such a great video, I love coming along for the ride. Thanks for sharing!
Casually I’m looking to buy a land in Molise Italy this video is quite handy to see the normal struggle you might find for example I want a land with a river or something to get the water 😅

I have actually been looking into doing something similar and this was a really good for learning.
Thanks and all the best guys.
Super excited for you guys. Very inspiring.
Ain't nobody got time for ghost branches
Your real estate agent with wet pants in the snow… she is DEDICATED 😂😂😂😂😂
She’s the actual best!
Adjust the clause to include a 72 hour notice and ability to approve or decline. Additionally, limit to the 2-3 week period of peak season.
Love it As always keep up the a grade content guys
Amazing video. Amazing story.
Banana transition! 😂
Only a few minutes in. I hope you guys get a tractor! They’re as cool as helicopters!
Amazing ❤
Like the haircut in Chris from the NL videos. 😊lol
Congrats on the land. Did I miss it or did you guys say how many acres it is? Excited to see all the content you guys will have for us with this new adventure
Love this!! ❤
I would have said hell yes to granny hunter as long as you could make a series out of it if it actually happens. 😂
Great video
I think you made the right choice because her being that old she would’ve went hunting anyway though

Maybe I missed it, but how many acres did you end up with? Congrats on your find 🎉
Can you imagine the gold mine found footage horror movie you would have of camping in the woods and some 90-year old woman with a shotgun shows up in the middle of night with a walker?
How big is your property? Did I miss that part?
Listing thingy 😆
Awesome video new sub. How much land did you guys buy?How many acres?
I would have just required that, if she was going to go hunting on the property, she had to notify you ahead of time and has to actually ensure you got the message (like, you were directly on the phone with her when she told you, not just leaving a message). Then you could just make sure you're not there when she was.
😊
Honestly it would have depended on where I was getting the land from. If a buddy was selling it to me and he was a hunter I'm sure we couldn't work it out. But a random stranger probably not.
Would New England be a cheaper option than NY?
Gawd, $100K won’t even get you a nature strip in Australia, unless you’re 700km away from civilisation in a desert. And even then.
Very strange clause…. But the chances of her actually hunting the land was next to nothing. Though, I could see that opening up the possibility of bringing her son with her or other interested hunting parties and at that point, what do you do? Glad they were smart enough to tell her no on the license.
I would never let a stranger onto my property with a gun to go hunting. Feels like an accident waiting to happen!
In a twist of events Becki & Chris get their hunting license, to shoot deer and make pelts.
Honestly, I would have negotiated down by 20 %
90 year old wants to hunt my land, sure! But I’m thinking there’s a concession, she needs to give me a better price or pay each time she comes to hunt. Seems like the oddest ask ever, I’d likely be just like you and 2nd guess it. Glad she couldn’t get the license. Nice to know the state of NY has some common sense in that department.
As a real estate agent, you run away from that clause. What if she hurt herself on your land? Would you guys be liable? You had a great agent!
That would have made it well worth the risk.
Most interesting. Not quite the same thing, you may care to view YT Max & Occy 🙏
You did good!
honest to god i have no idea how i’d handle that situation. on the one hand she’s so old that she’ll never hunt again; but with liability issues and so much other shit i’d prolly walk away. in the end the problem solved itself (best kind of problems) but still really weird
would of walked away
