Honestly, i think I've listened to this video more than any other one i can think of in my entire life. the musicianship.. the pocket.. It's rare. And the ability to just come out in front of what looks to be about 40 thousand people and lay it down raw like that. John needs to start working more with Pino & SJ. Hell of a trio. doesn't get better than this.

I don't see where Pino was slapping at all. All, but once he was shown playing palm mute and once he was playing figure style. I didn't hear any slapping and slap wouldn't fit the type of song or the bass he was playing.
Tbh being high probably has helped him put more feel into the music. But whenever i try to play guitar while high, I think I sound amazing but then when I record myself while high it sounds like a dying cat

I’ve been revisiting pieces of this on guitar for over a year, and finally discovered why it’s so difficult: you have to learn his acoustic songs to play his electric songs. 🤯 Listen to that slap groove intro. It’s all over the A side of Live in LA.
In my opinion, everyone should learn acoustic. There is so much technique and potential lost in not being able to play classical. Mark Knopfler didn't even use a pick on his electric, barely any distortion but he made it sound heavenly anyway with his unique style playing without a pick. Just grow some nails and start learning 😁

John Mayer Trio has been around for over ten years. They made a live album together in 2005.
And good thing is they're working together again for the album that's dropping next year. Blues vibes gonna be back and aren't we glad for it
