Concerning signs, especially since a lot of it mirrors wt we saw last year, but we'll have to see how it develops.

I completely agree it’s not promising however we still have a few weeks and a lot of first team players are missing and ideally Casemiro will be sold or at least benched for a new signing like Ugarte and also we saw last szn licha transforms this team in Possession when he’s fit so hopefully having players like licha, de ligt, Ugarte, Shaw, Dalot and Mainoo in those deeper areas will help us with ball retention and play under pressure but also progressive passing

Agree, it kind concerning similar to last season, ball retention is bad and lack progressive passing. Maybe I was expecting too much from it, want to at least see some style of football. But still this is just first pre season game. And more than half of it is under 20 and 18 playing. Casemiro lack effort, Rashford at least trying to help in offensive and defensive. Even Mount was frustrated during 1st with all the miss pass and movement from his teammate. So I won't be judging too much until actually seeing the first team squad playing.
What we learnt - it's our 1st preseason game, against a team in the middle of their season, with most of the team having u18 players not used to playing under ten hag. That's it, that's what we've learnt. Ppl on social media (not this page) get carried away too much.
Rosenberg's front 3 were very narrow and were blocking all the passing lanes in the centre. Which meant we were forced wide many times. And from there we just couldn't build anything worthwhile. Also, not once did we manage to thread the ball between those front 3. Quite easily they stopped us from building our game. Our wide play is just poor.
Good breakdown AJ. Just from the 1st half, I also thought the shape was interesting as you describe but the players were utterly inept in moving the ball efficiently or quickly enough, understandable being a pre-season game.
Will be interesting to see if there has been improvements come the final pre season game against Liverpool. I think the worry is they still conceded something like 20+ shots.

I literally fell asleep in the second half having watched the Copa America final all night. But Vitek was very good and we saw some other bright moments but nothing much to write home about. I hope we'll see more first team players against Rangers and better performances from more youth players. I also hope the likes of Bruno etc. will be on the US tour.

I'm not a fan of pressing in general, but if EtH is deadset on pressing, I'd prefer we drop off into a compact mid-block 4-4-2, forcing them to on the flanks and only pressing once their ball carrier enters the middle 3rd or crosses the halfway line.
