    Since I apparently forgot to specifically say this in the video itself: The drill by the feed trough is there to pull extra food that doesn't fit in the feed back 1 tile so it can be put back in the chest. This creates an infinite loop for the extra food and keeps the feed trough topped off at all times.
    The reason for the logic circuit is that if you put a drill there that is just running non-stop, it will break the feed trough and ruin the entire farm. The logic circuit puts the drill on an irregular timer that prevents the feed trough from breaking.
    Its also worth noting that this feature was more useful in Early Access when stacks only went to 999 and it was quicker and easier to run out of food. This part of the system may not be needed anymore due to the larger stack sizes.

    Been loving your core keeper guides recently man. Thank you. A quick suggestion: It would be cool if you started your guides with a quick preview of the finished product so we can see what we're working toward and take the first few seconds to be specific about why it's worth it while (This farm will produce XY and Z which you'll need a lot of in order to craft AB and C). You did a version of this but really helping us understand exactly what it will be used for, not just will produce crafting materials, etc.
    Could be helpful for new players to understand the purpose of each build and more experienced players so they can get a better feel for what you're building toward and how you're using automation blocks.
    Just my two cents! Keep it up man.

      The drill picks up items that cant fit in the feeding tray.
      The circuit is to repeatedly turn the drill on and off so it doesnt break anything it shouldnt.
      Edit: the same drill mechanic is used in every sorting system and auto smelter which is probably why he ommitted explaining it.

    I've been making a bunch of posts on the reddit of cool little contraptions like this, but one thing I hate about my own posts is that the arms make it difficult to see what's going on. Just a suggestion, but maybe for a full tutorial like this, place the arms last, just for clarity so people can see what they are building.
    Also, I thought of ideas like this too, but decided that I didn't wanna go full minecraft in this game with automated innocent animal murder. Lmao. But while brainstorming automated marbled meat, my solution was very similar lol

    So... i hate my brain, cause i dont want to do this. But i think I have found what is very likely the optimal design for auto cattle farming... its very cruel though.
    Forgive me for being an engineer, but the answer is much simpler and actually needs much less supplies.
    Start with the same principle, a 1 tile wide section where all the cattle will live for their entire lives never being able to move, but still being "happy" according to the game. One of the longer walls of this section should be made of feeding troughs. Honestly, with crop farming not being automated and stacks going to 9999, i dont think the crops need the auto reload circuit, its really not saving much time tbh. This means you can extend infinitely with as many troughs as you're willing to keep stocked.
    The opposing wall needs to be drills, pointed at the moolins themselves. Adult cattle have more health than baby cattle. But i believe baby cattle still drop meat. Using a circuit that is timed to allow the drills to do enough damage to kill the baby cattle but not the adult cattle, you get the kill and item collection done for you. Then you need to time the circuit to not run again until all the cattle have healed. Conveyers and knowing the reach of the cattle to the trough would all need to be studied, but i believe this would be a very elegant albeit incredibly cruel solution. It also has the advatage of being fully enclosed. Animals cant escape, and if the timing circuit cant kill an adult cattle, your population will never hit zero.
    Id have to workshop it, but im fairly certain this could be build and would work. But its so mean!

    I finally built this but no babies seem to be happening. Where are the babies supposed to spawn? From my testing they need a tile around the cattle to spawn..they seem to only spawn 1 tile away and so maybe they won't spawn on conveyors? What am I missing?
    I tested this by putting cows on 1 tile each with water and then just having one corner tile to them. I did two sets one with the corner/water and one with connected tiles. The one with corners never produced a baby but the other did. So then I filled in the diagonals on the other and a baby was immediately produced. So I am confused how a baby gets produced with this design and even more by how one is to make it down to the drill since it can't get passed the conveyor (you mentioned overflow..but since I can't even get one baby to spawn..... haha)
    I will let it run overnight and see if anything changes.
    Just thought that maybe it's because I put stone floor under them...can that block spawn just like it blocks trees? After I removed the floor tiles (stone floor tiles) a baby produced so maybe that was it. Will report back tomorrow :)
    Also - I keep forgetting about discord rather than commenting here lol.

    What is the drill doing that faces the trough and why is the logic necessary?

    • @DakonsMadhouse
      @DakonsMadhouse  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      it pulls any item that doesnt go into the trough backwards so that the other robot arm can grab it and put it back in the chest. This creates a loop so that all the extra items you have in your chest will keep getting put into the trough and extras continue to cycle through. The logic prevents the drill from running nonstop. If it runs nonstop it breaks the trough. The logic creates a pause that prevents the trough from breaking.
      Because stack sizes have gone up in 1.0 I'm beginning to think this entire process is unneeded. But back when stacks were only 999 it was helpful.

    • @DakonsMadhouse
      @DakonsMadhouse  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      it keeps the food cycling. basically one robot arm puts food into the trough, extras get pulled by the drill to the next tile and the other robot arm picks up the food.
      I feel like that section was more important when food only stacked to 999 and it was easy to run out. with stacks at 10k now that configuration may no longer be needed.

    • @DakonsMadhouse
      @DakonsMadhouse  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      the one that turns on and off is connected to the auto loader for the food. It isnt always on so it doesnt break the feed trough. Before 1.0 when stacks went to 999 it was easier to run out of food. with stacks going to 9999 now its easier to have more food in the feed trough and you're less likely to run out.
      Its possible the drill, chest and 2 robot arms for the auto feed system aren't needed anymore. Something worse looking into.
